Death Mage with an SS-Rank Talent-Chapter 255
Chapter 255: Chapter 255
Capital City underground...Cult’s HQ
While the Alliance was busy making a plan against the Cult, the cult was not outdone. They had their own plan to deal with the alliance. Something that they had planned months ago, when they found the spy from the alliance.
Unlike before, when they immediately killed off the spies who infiltrated deep into their circles, this time they didn’t on purpose. The higher-ups let the spy gather intel, true intel on some small-scale operations, so that the alliance would fall for the final pit that they had dug and from the looks of it, it might happen soon.
The alliance didn’t know that this was a trap laid out by the Cult for the alliance. Sure, the alliance heads might not appear in the area, but they knew that they would send some of their best and brightest along with a lot of Cannon Fodder to that area, where they would stay forever.
The cult lost a few members trying to find the anomaly that appeared when the world started to upgrade. The diviners from the cult have warned the cult’s higher-ups that whatever that was there, it could cause a lot of devastation.
So, the cult tried their best to hide the news about the place. They even started attacking the alliance, making them busy enough for their diviners to concentrate on the attacks, rather than on that place.
While the main faction started a war, a team went to that place but never returned.
At the beginning, there were communications every once in a while, but that changed soon. They lost contact. The higher-ups believed that whatever was there might be causing the communication breakdown.
So, they didn’t think much about that at first. Instead, they devoted more time and resources to create enough time for that team to retrieve whatever is there.
Only after a few weeks did they see that something was wrong. Though they started to feel that something was wrong, they gave enough buffer time before they deemed that the first team had failed.
Did they give because the first team faltered?
No, that would be considered as stupidity. The team might have thought that this was an easy mission. If it were an easy one, then the reward would not be important enough for the cult to start an open war.
The reward is very high, and that means the mission would not be easy to complete.
Just because a team failed, they are not going to scrap things. A second team would be dispatched, which would pick up where the first team left off. Though the final data was not available, there was a relay of data collected a few days before.
Using that data, the second team would start their mission, and that’s what they did. They relayed their information every hour, unlike the first team, so that if they went missing, the cult would know that something had happened to them, and could rescue them if possible.
Reducing the communication to an hour, it would be easier for the cult to know where and when they went missing exactly, unlike what it was with the first team.
Though they planned well, they too fell out of commission just two days after their arrival in the Wasteland. The cult failed to find them.
Even after the loss of two teams, the cult didn’t stop. For the third attempt, they sent three full teams, but their fate was similar to the previous two.
After that loss, the cult stopped their search, fearing that the cult would be erased from existence before they could get whatever there was. Only the strong few may have the chance to get that, but because the war has started, the powerful cult members appeared on stag,e and any movement from them could be grasped by the alliance.
So, they had to shelve their plan for a while until they found an alliance spy among them.
This time, unlike how they killed off the spies that infiltrated their ranks, they allowed him to collect some real data in order to make it look legitimate what they prepared for him and the alliance.
For the plan to be believable and enticing, they mixed truth and lies into this.
---
"Would they take the bait?" Big Two asked.
"They would, especially since we mentioned that the Supreme would arrive to personally deal with the issue", Big One spoke in confidence.
"You are right, Big One. Those alliance dogs have been trying to find out who we are, especially about the Supreme. If they think that the Supreme himself would be involved, they are certain to send someone powerful there, and that place is a death place", the Big Three confirmed with a smile.
Though the cult’s higher-ups have stopped sending anyone there to find whatever that was hidden, that doesn’t mean everyone in the cult did.
Some powerful professionals thought that they could do this and went there, but never returned. Among them, there were three Rank-7 professionals. Though they are someone who improved their ranks recently before losing their lives, the loss was too much for the cult.
It would be for anyone. It was the reason why there were still only single-digit clashes among the professionals who were at Rank-7 or above. As soon as such professionals appear, both sides would stop the battle and retreat.
So, the higher-ups explicitly ordered the ones who were in the known of this not to go there.
The place was forgotten until recently, after they found the spy, which was only possible because of the Supreme, who provided the data about the spy. In fact, it was the plan of the supreme to use the spy to drag the alliance into the pit hole.
The alliance believes that the Supreme was peak Rank-8 or maybe even Rank-9.
So, to deal with him, they are certain to send multiple Rank-8 and Rank-9 entities there. Even if they were not killed there, as long as many of those higher-ranking alliance members are injured, that would be more than enough for the cult.
As long as a few rank-7 and above professionals are out of commission, at least for a while, the cult can take that time to breach alliance defences, maybe even establish a ruling government over the occupied lands.
The cults understood that resources are not easy to collect. They need proper territories to do that, and there were plans to cut off some of the territories from the Alliance’s hands and take over them, but that was not easy to achieve.
Now, with the changes appearing in the world, the Cult is trying everything that they can to get a portion of the population, which they can use to increase their numbers.
Whether that could happen or not, it might depend on the outcome of the teams that the alliance has decided to dispatch for the Wasteland.
