Chapter 238: Chapter 238

The Lich did something that even surprised Aaron.

The Lich Mage took control of all the ghosts and turned what was a chaotic army into a unified army. They moved as soldiers who were trained and were following a script taught to them beforehand.

Instead of moving as they placed as they used to before, this time they each moved with a purpose.

Aaron wanted to do this, but even when he had a thousand ghosts/skeletons, he couldn’t. He could give them all a collective order, but couldn’t break into single orders.

It not only put too much strain on his mind, but it also took too much time to do so.

Due to his high INT, the strain could be negated a bit, but the time consumed would give a chance for the opponents to strike at him easily.

It was always a trouble for him to give specific orders, but the Lich made it look easy.

Not all fell on the man at once. They attacked him in a group, waited for one group to complete their attacks, and then the other group attacked. They took turns attacking the enemy.

This move has puzzled Aaron, "Let’s check what that was about later on. For now, let’s win this battle", he thought and concentrated on fighting and defeating the man.

"Boy, I don’t know how you were able to summon so many ghosts at the same time, but they won’t be able to save you", the man shouted before summoning his own undead.

The man is a Necromancer, and he summoned Skeletons, Ghosts, Zombies, Living Armours and Spectors.

There are almost two hundred of them each, but they were more powerful than normal undead. They were improved undead.

"Just numbers don’t win wars", the man declared and sent his undead upon Aaron’s undead.

What he said was true. Having numbers would appear to have an advantage, but if they are weak, no matter the difference, for the stronger ones, it would be like cutting grass from a field. High in number, but can be easily eliminated as long as you have grass cutters.

---

What the man said turned out to be true.

The man’s undead, though fewer in number, were able to stall Aaron’s undead.

The longer the battle continues, the more damage it will cause to the city and its residents. If the ritual completes by the time the battle ends, that could lead to a big disaster.

These sacrificial rituals are done either to improve someone or to summon something. From the looks where it was happening, the likely scenario was that the ritual was to summon something, something dangerous.

Aaron has read about this, and his mind was on stopping the ritual immediately. To stop the ritual, Aaron had to destroy the circles drawn on the ground, but to do that, he had to defeat the man standing before him.

From the way he fights, he should be Rank-5, maybe even a newbie Rank-6. If he were Rank-4, he would have been defeated by his ten thousand ghosts and the Lich that was commanding them.

What should have been a quick win for Aaron, the man turned that into a stalemate.

So, Aaron was sure that the man was of a higher rank than Rank-4.

While Aaron was observing him in order to find a weakness to end this battle quickly, he saw something that astonished him. The man was supplying Death Energy to his undead. The man, instead of directing the Death Energy to the ritual, started to absorb it and then boost his undead by sending it to them.

"Wow, that is a great skill or maybe a technique", Aaron muttered to himself.

This has kept Aaron’s undead at bay. Of course, the Lich Mage has not made many moves against the man. It stood back, most likely because it was directing the undead, or it was afraid of friendly fire.

Then the idea came to his mind. If he could also boost his undead like that, then they could become stronger than the man’s undead and could easily eliminate them.

He was not sure whether that could be successful, but he still gave it a try. He has, after all, a lot of Death Energy reserves in his body.

---

Aaron succeeded.

Though it can’t be considered a success, as Aaron was not even able to integrate his undead with 1% of the Death Energy that he used. More than 99% of the Death Energy was wasted, but Aaron didn’t feel bad.

It worked, and the undead’s power has increased a little. When in the future he improves this to a high degree, then his undead would be on a different level.

The only issue was that he had to constantly supply his undead with the Death Energy or their power levels would go back to their original within a few minutes. The time depends on what the undead were doing.

The more they fight, the faster the dissipation will be.

---

"That’s impossible. How are you able to do that?" the man muttered in disbelief when he saw Aaron’s actions

He wanted to know how the boy was able to use the Death Energy. This was supposed to be their secret power, but someone outside of their organisation used the Death Energy.

Though looking at how the boy handled the infusion of Death Energy into his undead, the man estimated that it was his first time. It only means that the boy has a good talent for using the Death Energy.

Now his mind was thinking of a way to subdue the boy.

If he could take the boy back, either alive or dead, he was sure that the higher-ups would be pleased. The rewards might be higher if the boy remained alive, but he was not an idiot. If the boy can’t be subdued, then he will kill the boy and submit his corpse to his higher-ups.

Though the research value would be reduced, the body can still be used to increase their studies on Death Energy, maybe not as much as one can get from a live specimen.

Thinking that he gave his all, not keeping anything back.

He was stalling before because his main goal was to complete the ritual, but if he used all his strength and got stranded here, he would be caught in the crossfire.

Like Aaron thought, the ritual was summoning something, something very dangerous that can easily wipe away the Tier-2 city completely. Especially with their organisation members creating havoc above, the creature that would be summoned would be more than enough to wipe the city from the face of the world.

So, the man gave up all to stop the boy and leave the place before the ritual was completed. The creature that he was trying to summon wouldn’t care who summoned it. It would destroy everything in its path. Anyone who stands in its way intentionally or not, they would be eliminated, whether it was the one who summoned it or someone else.

Though there was a summoning time limit before it would diappear from this world, it would cause Duskmist City disappear from the world. Even if all the protectors of the city acts, they may protect a tenth of the city at most, and that too at the cost of a lot of lives from them.

So, the man’s agenda was to quickly subdue or kill Aaron and leave the area before the ritual was completed.
