Chapter 4798: Chapter 3871: Nameless Bat (Part 4)

"Hello, Moon Knight." Bright lights flowed over the lady’s wheat-colored skin, reflecting on the brilliant facets of the gemstone above. Beneath her long, dark eyelashes, the expression in her pupils was indistinct and unclear.

Shiller nodded towards him but did not reply. Wonder Woman held her wine glass and said, "I’ve never been to New York, but I heard that the predecessors of the Justice Society have all gathered there. I really hope I can visit them and learn about their great achievements."

"New York welcomes you, madam," Shiller replied.

"I don’t know what you think of the Amazon," Wonder Woman continued, "To be honest, my hometown is very beautiful. The moonlight there is purer than anywhere else. Are you interested in visiting?"

"My honor," Shiller said, "I have heard of Paradise Island."

Wonder Woman’s hand holding the wine glass paused slightly. Shiller mentioned "Paradise Island" rather than "Amazon." Typically, outsiders couldn’t differentiate between the two.

Amazon is the name of a country, a small one located in the Amazon, also referred to as a tribal alliance, similar to the Emirates. Paradise Island is one of its tribes, and the most powerful one among them.

However, because Amazon is not a very noticeable country, no one cared about the distinctions between tribes. Just as few could say which is the most powerful Emirate among the Emirates, most only knew Amazon, not Paradise Island.

Wonder Woman herself didn’t overly promote Paradise Island. She always emphasized her status as an Amazon Princess. Besides the familiarity of "Amazon" due to the Amazon rainforest, it’s because Paradise Island holds many secrets, not suitable for public knowledge.

In the Justice League, aside from Batman, no one knows much about a particular tribe of this small country. Even Superman only knows the name, but not its history.

However, this suddenly emerged superhero, Moon Knight, suddenly mentioned the name right in front of her. It is not normal. He might be hinting at something.

"I didn’t expect you to know my real hometown," Wonder Woman said. "Can I interpret it as you’ve had your eye on me for quite some time?"

Shiller shook his head and said, "I just came across the name in a tome. I’m curious about it."

Wonder Woman breathed a sigh of relief and said, "Yes, Paradise Island is a place of mystery. Ordinary people cannot approach it. But it’s truly beautiful there. If there’s an opportunity, I will invite you to visit."

"Thank you," Shiller said.

Wonder Woman was somewhat irritated, deeply resentful of the other’s cunning. Despite testing here for quite a while, the other party never engages, consistently managing to feign ignorance and smoothly evade the topic. She couldn’t help but glance at Batman beside them.

Her hand clutching the wine glass tightened slightly, her heart palpitating. Batman seemed more different than when they first met. Now, no one knows what he’s thinking.

The Arkham Batman stood by the window, chatting with Superman about the matters of Superman’s old home, Kansas State. Superman’s expression showed he was very happy, almost as if his eyebrows danced. Seeing this, Wonder Woman angrily bit her lip.

Her gaze turned to The Flash and Green Lantern. These two were useless, easily swayed by Batman’s fascination. Haven’t they realized Batman wants to control the world?

Wonder Woman turned her gaze towards Arkham Knight. Her steps involuntarily moved toward him. She probably knew what happened between them. If Arkham Knight speaks up, Batman might have some reservations.

Arkham Knight neither held a wine glass nor spoke with anyone. He stood alone by the dessert stand, staring at the small cakes. It looked like he was hesitating which to eat, but he had been standing there for half an hour already.

"Jason," Wonder Woman called.

Arkham Knight started, awakening from his thoughts. He looked at Wonder Woman, remembered Batman’s instructions, and responded vaguely. However, to avoid revealing any clues, he didn’t exhibit an extremely indifferent attitude.

He had no grievances with Wonder Woman, naturally no need to trouble her. In fact, his heart sided with Wonder Woman, thinking Batman really didn’t need to fuss over a small country. Even if Paradise Island does have some secrets, they’ve been fine for so many years. Why create unnecessary complications?

"Jason, I’ll be blunt," Wonder Woman took a different approach. Though her words were straightforward, the tone was gentle, and Arkham Knight could almost detect a hint of compassion.

"Your adoptive father may have some misunderstandings about us," Wonder Woman softly sighed and said, "Amazon has no intention to oppose America. We’ve always stood by his side. Why does he target us?"

"I don’t know either," Arkham Knight spoke truthfully. His lips pursed as he continued, "Perhaps it’s not solely his decision. You know, Congress and the military..."

"I know that Congress and the military are now just shadows," Wonder Woman initially aimed to persuade Jason but grew more worried as she spoke, "The entire Federal Government follows his word, and these diplomatic policies are all crafted by him." She grumbled, "He reduced the flight frequency of the three major airlines to Amazon, devastating Amazon’s tourism industry. I’ve heard his next step is to annul Amazon passport privileges. Except for some Asian countries, no country has faced such cold treatment."

Arkham Knight reacted inwardly. If that’s true, it indicates Batman is determined to act against Amazon. But what on earth there is so compelling that Batman is willing to risk completely angering Wonder Woman and continuously targeting Amazon?

But the Arkham Knight was not skilled in international relations. He felt very troubled, could only offer a few lukewarm words of comfort, and promised her that he would definitely talk to Batman.

Watching the retreating figure of Wonder Woman, the Arkham Knight felt a bit merciful too. This woman is strong, just, respected by all, and has never done anything to wrong Batman or the Federal Government. How did it come to this?

But the Arkham Knight could only sigh inwardly. If his martial arts and wisdom were effective in Gotham, they really did not measure up in the treacherous waters of the Federal Government. Yet, it didn’t take Batman long to completely unify it there. The current Arkham Batman was someone he couldn’t see through.

Wonder Woman was clearly still on the move; she was still trying to gain support from members inside the Justice League. Just as the banquet was about to end, and the Arkham Knight felt this whole affair was about to conclude, the grand doors of the banquet hall suddenly swung open.

A group of fully armed agents rushed in. This scene stunned everyone present. Green Lantern and The Flash didn’t even react to their superpowers at first and, like ordinary people, were pushed towards the corners of the room by the agents.

Superman immediately protected Batman as they retreated. But he quickly realized that these Federal agents were probably at Batman’s command, so he couldn’t help but turn to look at him. Yet, there was nothing on Arkham Batman’s face.

Amidst the chaotic crowd, a glance swept over. The leading female agent had an excessively beautiful face, framed by long hair as red as flames.

"Central Intelligence Agency Federation Special Investigation Group, Natasha Romanoff. Mistress Diana Prince, the Federal Government now suspects that you represent Amazon in conducting espionage activities within the Federation. Please cooperate with our investigation."

"What?!" Wonder Woman couldn’t help but widen her eyes and then sharply turned to look at Batman. Upon meeting those deep, cold blue eyes, for the first time, an uncontrollable despair surged up within her.

"Please cooperate with our investigation, ma’am." The red-haired female agent in front repeated, her tone revealing a formulaic coldness.

"You cannot arrest me." Wonder Woman stepped back two steps, saying, "I am innocent. I have diplomatic immunity, you have no right to do this to me!"

"This is an arrest warrant and authorization document issued by the Federal Government," Natasha showed her two documents again and said, "I am merely carrying out orders, ma’am. Please cooperate."

Wonder Woman couldn’t help but stare angrily at Batman, only to see that cold and ruthless man by the window mouth the word "Amazon" to her.

The divine power encircling Wonder Woman’s arms dissipated. She took a deep breath standing in place, her shoulders shaking involuntarily. Those vivid and luxurious gemstones couldn’t provide her with more confidence; they only reflected a soul pale and weary beneath her healthy complexion.

"I’m sorry, ma’am." Natasha stepped forward, cuffed Wonder Woman’s hands, allowing her to be taken away by the agents behind her.

"Take all of them away," Natasha said, "Everyone who has had contact with the suspected spy must undergo investigation."

The room exploded into chaos. Green Arrow was the first to stand out, glaring angrily at Arkham Batman and saying, "What are you doing?! Batman! Are you saying we’re all spies?!"

The Flash’s face turned a bit ugly when Wonder Woman was dragged away. He clenched his fists and said to Batman, "Diana can’t possibly be a spy, Batman. There must be some misunderstanding here; can you investigate a bit more?"

Even Superman said: "Yes, Batman. You know, what necessity does Diana have to be a spy? She has done so much for Metropolis and has spoken out for numerous heinous cases on Federal land. Moreover, Amazon is just a small country thriving on tourism resources; what benefit is there to send their princess as a spy?"

Arkham Batman only responded to Superman. He spoke in a tone that only the two of them could hear, "This is not about justice, but politics. Trust me."

Superman’s expression was somewhat complicated, and then he voluntarily stood up and said, "Will you keep us together with Diana?"

"You’ll be investigated together," Natasha said, "Rest assured, the CIA is conducting civil law enforcement, no one will hurt you."

"If we are all kept together, I can go with you," Superman took the lead in expressing, "this way, if you do anything out of line, I can rescue my companions immediately. But I advise you not to do such things, even though I will try my best not to harm you, humans are just too fragile."

Natasha heard the threat in Superman’s tone. She nodded and stepped aside, allowing her subordinates to cuff Superman. Although no one believed these things could work, Superman still tried to tense his muscles to maintain the cuffs’ reliability.

When Superman turned the tide, others had no means of action. As Green Arrow passed Arkham Batman, he said, "One day you will pay for your arbitrariness."

"I’ll wait for that day," Arkham Batman said.

The Arkham Knight was the last to be escorted away. He took a glance back, Arkham Batman stood in the empty room. The delicate food remained in its original state, flowers bloomed, Dionysium flowed, yet from his back no victorious posture could be discerned, only an inexplicable sense of tragedy.

Is it worth it? Arkham Batman asked himself in his heart. For power, for justice, forcing everyone and himself to this point. Is it really worth it?
