Days as a Spiritual Mentor in American Comics-Chapter 4458 - 543 Research on Cats and Dogs (54)
Chapter 4458 - 543 Research on Cats and Dogs (54)
Just as Shiller expected, it didn't take long for the news from the Eleventh Bureau to come back: a mysterious UFO sighting erupted in a small Colorado State town, causing a widespread sensation.
Of course, such incidents are very common in America, happening frequently and not worth noting. However, professionals found that unlike the usual rumors, this time the witnesses described the shape of the suspected alien spacecraft quite consistently.
Combining the abilities of psychic users, the Eleventh Bureau judged that this could be a large-scale brainwashing causing collective illusion, aimed at drawing their attention.
Because thinking about alien spacecraft naturally leads to thoughts about Martian Manhunter, which is the best way to draw the KGB's attention.
Shiller wasted no time and rushed to the airport with his belongings. Besides his carry-on luggage, he also took Aisha. As the Source of Fear, her hard control skill is the perfect counter against Martian people.
Colorado State is located in central America, adjacent to Kansas State, and is a neighbor to Superman's hometown. The largest city is Denver, not economically developed but has unique topographical conditions and stunning natural scenery that attracts many foreign tourists.
Buying the nearest flight ticket, Shiller and Aisha boarded the plane.
Aisha never causes trouble in front of Shiller, and started eating snacks as soon as they got on the plane. She ate until full, then slept, and when she woke up, they had arrived.
Colorado State's temperature is much higher than Gotham, so no additional clothing is needed. After getting off the plane, they went straight to the car rental office, rented a somewhat old Bentley car, and drove towards the target location.
The location of the reported anomaly is in Middleton, a small town in southern Colorado State.
Upon hearing the name, Shiller knew it must be Malafax causing trouble because Martian Manhunter has always worked in this town in the comics.
Driving south along the road, they soon arrived at the country road of the small town. Just then, a police car came over, flashing lights signaling Shiller to pull over.
Shiller was no speeding kid, and the Bentley he rented couldn't speed up much anyway. He slowly decelerated, parked by the roadside, pushed open the car door, and got out, raising his hands to indicate he was unarmed.
A male police officer came over, glanced into the car, and Aisha waved at him.
"Is this your daughter?"
"Yes," Shiller nodded and said.
America doesn't have household registration books, and small-town police can't cross-state to check identity information. If one doesn't admit it, there's a risk of suspicion for child trafficking. American police don't bother reasoning, and trouble could arise if they pick on faults. It's better to admit it.
Aisha also ran out of the car, stood next to Shiller to prove she wasn't kidnapped.
The police officer squatted down and patted Aisha's head, saying, "Is he your dad?"
Aisha vigorously nodded and said, "Yes, officer sir. My dad brought me to see aliens!"
The officer showed a helpless expression, stood up, and said to Shiller, "You came here because of the alien spaceship rumor, didn't you? The sighting location is just 2 kilometers away in that wheat field. Follow this path to get there."
"Thank you, officer." Shiller said.
Shiller didn't say much more, got back in the car, and drove off. He glanced at the rearview mirror, seeing the officer standing in the morning light, waving at him.
Driving forward, bypassing most of the town, Shiller saw the so-called sighting location, an ordinary wheat field.
Seeing no one around, Aisha flew up for a look and pointed to the center of the wheat field, saying, "There's a pit in the middle, looks like something crashed down. Could it be a spaceship?"
"A pit?" Shiller was surprised.
If Malafax created the illusion, there shouldn't be any physical entity. How could there be a pit in the center of the wheat field?
He had no choice but to lead Aisha along the field edge, finding a small road leading inside.
Fortunately, several UFO enthusiasts also found the pit, trampling a small path into the wheat field. Shiller led Aisha in.
Reaching the center of the wheat field, they found the pit didn't look like traces of an alien spaceship crash, rather it seemed dug out by humans.
Not to mention, if an alien spaceship crashed here, it wouldn't leave such a small pit. When Clark's spaceship fell to Earth, the Kent family's entire farmland was destroyed, and locals still talk about it decades later.
That means, even an alien baby bus wouldn't create a pit only six or seven meters wide and less than a meter deep. The soil layer didn't show burn marks, but the edges appeared to be shovel-dug.
Wouldn't it be funny if Malafax dug through the night?
Quickly, Shiller dismissed this possibility because even if Malafax wanted to dig, he wouldn't use a shovel, nor would he dig such a small pit.
While pondering about the pit, a man walked over from the other side of the wheat field, waving continuously.
Shiller led Aisha over and found a young man in a striped sweater, looking a bit pale and wearing glasses, seemingly like an unpopular bookworm in school.
"Hello, sir. Did you come to see aliens?"
"If there were really aliens here, we wouldn't be able to talk so safely." Shiller smiled and said, "I don't think all alien creatures are friendly, do you?"
The man smiled, his neck muscles twitched, his right shoulder twisted back slightly, and he said, "Yes, many people think too well of them, lacking basic vigilance."
"Are you a UFO enthusiast?" Shiller asked.
"Ah, no, I'm not. My dad is the farmer of this farm. I'm his youngest son, Piris Jotun. Nice to meet you."

"Schiller Rodriguez." Shiller extended his hand and said his real name, "This is my daughter."
The man was stunned for a moment and then said, "Are you the famous psychologist?"
"I didn't expect anyone here to recognize me. Do you have an interest in psychology?" Shiller reported his real name because he assumed people in small towns wouldn't know him.
"Uh, I read about you in some magazines. Your theories are interesting; I quite like them."
"It's my honor," Shiller smiled.
"Actually, you're probably from far away, right? Have you chosen a hotel?"
"Not yet, we plan to check in the town."
"You might be late; the town's hotels have been fully booked since yesterday. You know, this matter caused quite a stir, and many came to see."
"What should we do?" Shiller frowned slightly, showing concern.
The young man suddenly rubbed his hands, somewhat shyly said, "My parents went to buy farm machinery, and my brothers and sisters are away at college. Now, I'm the only one at the farm. You can stay at my house."
"Of course, it's okay if you don't come. I just want... if I host you, I can tell my classmates I hosted the world's best psychologist."
Shiller laughed, "Glad to be your bragging point. It doesn't matter where I stay, but my daughter..."
"No problem, she can stay in my childhood room, or with you. I'll clean the room, just sign for me."
"Alright, I worry if we go to a hotel now, we may fail and that wouldn't be good. We haven't stayed on a farm before. Aisha, do you want to go?"
Aisha checked Shiller's expression, then nodded hard, saying, "Of course! I definitely want to go. I want to see those super-cool big carts."
Then added in her heart, "No cart cooler than Uncle Kent's farm one."
"Great," Jotun rubbed his hands, "Follow me, my house is over here."
When he turned around, Shiller put away his smile, lowered his gaze, and silently followed him.
Walking out of the wheat field onto the country road, Shiller saw two police cars parked in the woods not far away.
Seeing Shiller staring, Jotun said, "Recently, there have been more outsiders here; police worry about sabotage, patrolling the area. Rest assured."
Shiller nodded, withdrawing his gaze. He didn't say he saw a newly posted missing person notice stuck on the electrical box by the woods, probably posted in the last few days.
Walking along the country road for over ten minutes, crossing two vegetable fields and another wheat field, they arrived at the farm cottage.
This farm evidently isn't as big as the Kent's, likely only one-fifth or less. But the farmer's construction uses good lumber, looking a bit old but still sturdy.
The main house is a large two-story wooden cottage, with a big area, sofa, fireplace, rug in the living room, typical American country style décor, with large windows making it more transparent.
"Welcome to my home," Jotun said, "My parents cleaned this before leaving. They would be delighted to know you, as a professor, are our guest."
"Really? You said your siblings are away at college; which colleges do they attend?"
"My brother attends a community college in Denver; my sister studies well and attends the state university."
"That's quite good." Shiller nodded.
The right side of the house has a photo wall, Shiller walked over, seeing many family photos: planting, camping, fishing. Jotun is also in them.
But in some photos, there's a younger girl. Jotun looked at those few photos and said, "That's my sister, but... she passed away recently."
"God bless." Shiller said, "I will pray for her."
At this moment, Aisha had run to the backyard, shouting a few times. Shiller pretended to be attracted, stepped towards the backyard. He felt Jotun staring at his back.
As Shiller led Aisha back into the house, the door suddenly knocked.
Jotun walked over to open the door, a tall male policeman stood outside. Shiller, standing at the rear door, saw the policeman's boots covered in wet mud, and his pants had the same folds and scratches as the earlier cop who checked the car.
