Chapter 4368 - 3461: Midnight Sons (23)

"General?" Shiller repeated the word. He thought of another fierce character among the Dark Elves—General Algolim, also known as the Cursed Warrior.

He is the second-in-command of the Dark Elves and the most valiant warrior within the Dark Elf race. In most universes, he is a major enemy of Thor and is said to have twice the strength of Thor.

In the comics, he actually appears quite average, not seeming to be much stronger than Thor. Shiller isn't sure about other universes, but in this one, the Cursed Warrior couldn't possibly have twice Thor's strength because there is no Thor here, only the God of Light, a fusion of thunder and fire.

Moreover, the double strength of Thor that the Cursed Warrior possesses was granted by the Transcendent. But now that the Transcendent is busy maintaining the Battleworld, he won't be causing trouble in the cosmos. So the strength of the Cursed Warrior is still questionable.

What's undeniable is that this guy seems to have taken Malekith's place and is brewing a new round of schemes against the human race.

Only Shiller couldn't quite think of what action on Jupiter could achieve. If it's just stealing resources, it would take some time to affect the human race, as humans currently have no development on Jupiter. Stealing more resources wouldn't impact humans now.

"They can't possibly tie Jupiter with a rope and swing it against Earth, can they? Is that a stratagem a wise being could come up with?"

Since the clues were too few, it was time to investigate further. After heading upstairs, Shiller didn't stop but walked toward the direction from which the previous Dark Elf came.

Shiller speculated that it might be an office over there, where more Dark Elves could be found. Catching someone to question might be feasible.

He moved cautiously forward in the dark hallway. Upon reaching the door, however, he found out that it required a pass to open.

Shiller stood by the door hesitating for a while before deciding to find that previous Dark Elf to see if he had a door card on him.

When he went down, the previous Dark Elf was no longer there. Shiller walked down the corridor in the direction he might have left and came across another door requiring a card.

"Great, reality isn't as good as the comics. This world is just one massive puzzle game."

Shiller didn't rush to find the card. He stood by the door listening to the sounds inside. He didn't hear any talking, but there was the faint hum of machines. It might be a utility room.

Shiller knew that Dark Elves operating in the Solar System would also need life support devices. One, their race has a significant natural flaw; they can't be exposed to the sun. Second, the volcanoes on Jupiter's moon are too many, and the temperature is too high for carbon-based life forms to withstand. Other than the freakish Aesir, anyone who goes there will end up like grilled squid.

Shiller had noticed the Dark Elf he was following didn't have any equipment, so the God's Temple likely had a large life support device center. The equipment to block sunlight and cool down must be inside.

To maintain the shielding and cooling, energy would be needed. And the base being established on Jupiter's moon, the most probable energy source was geothermal. The energy core should be at the bottom of the God's Temple.

"Anyway, just turning off the power first will be fine."

Shiller returned to the staircase, confirmed no one was in the hallway, and used Moonlight to illuminate the path, orienting himself.

The hall on the first floor had three corridors. If nothing unexpected happened, they should all be locked. But there's a good chance that a single door card could work universally. Shiller decided to wait for a lucky guy carrying a door card to come deliver food.

After a few minutes, a figure appeared at the corner. Shiller stretched out his hands, and a dimly glowing light band appeared between them.

As the Dark Elf turned the corner, Shiller reached out, looping the light band around his head, and tightly squeezed it around the Dark Elf's neck.

"Ugh..."

The Dark Elf emitted a short syllable, struggling desperately. Shiller dragged him backward to the corner of the staircase until the other had no more signs of life. Only then did he release his hands.

"He might not be dead," Khonsu reminded.

"I didn't intend to kill him anyway," Shiller said. "The odds of Stark not being discovered are very small. In any case, things are bound to get noisy eventually. It doesn't matter if he reports intruders after he wakes up."

After searching him, Shiller found a pass card. Taking the card, Shiller headed to the door.

He swiped the card, but only got two beeps. Then a prompt sounded.

Shiller couldn't understand the language of the Dark Elves, but he could tell the card was incorrect. So, he went to another corridor. When he swiped the card, it was the same prompt again.

Having tried all three corridors, none of the doors could be opened with the card. Shiller sighed in resignation.

He returned to the second floor, stood in front of the door there, and listened. There were people inside. If he opened the door recklessly, the people inside would certainly sense something was wrong. Shiller decided not to attempt it.

He waited at the corner of the staircase for another lucky person to come. Meanwhile, it seemed like the office upstairs had just finished a meeting, as Dark Elves started streaming out in groups.

To avoid them, Shiller had to move the Dark Elf he strangled earlier to another corridor on the side.

Several Dark Elves went down to the first floor and entered the three corridors, opening the doors there. Unfortunately, there were too many of them for Shiller to sneak in.

Once they were all gone, the office on the second floor was empty. Shiller used the card to open the door and entered the office.

Everything there had been cleared. Shiller checked the desktop, cabinets, and drawers but found nothing.

With nothing on the second floor and unable to access the first floor, Shiller could only head to the third floor. However, the door to the third-floor stairs was closed, and the only way up was by elevator.

Shiller found the elevator at the other end of the second-floor corridor, but it also required an elevator card. Without the card, he couldn't choose a floor.

He tried the second floor's card but found it wouldn't work. Meaning, he still needed to find an elevator card to get to the third floor. But he wanted to go to the third floor because there was no one on the second floor. So where could he get an elevator card?

"Are the Dark Elves mad?" Shiller said as he left the elevator, "A different card for every door, and none of them interconnect. Was the architect who designed this place a puzzle game designer in a past life? Did you stuffed the Riddler's trophies?"

Complaints aside, Shiller still had to figure it out. He returned to the second-floor balcony and glanced upward.

Shiller couldn't walk through walls, but he could use the moonlight trait to pass through glass. However, there were no windows above the second floor of this God's Temple, so he couldn't use this method to get in.

He went back to the second floor, then down to the first floor using the stairs. He was determined there had to be someone on the first floor.

After waiting a few minutes, sure enough, a Dark Elf came out from the middle corridor. Shiller waited at the entrance and knocked him out the same way. He found two cards on him.

And wouldn't you know it, neither card could open the first floor's door.

"But if that's the case, how did he get into the previously locked corridor?"

Shiller didn't know, but back then there were so many people going in, this guy could have just followed anyone inside. Not having a card made sense too.

But the problem was, these two cards couldn't open the doors on the second or third floors, nor could they access the elevator. That meant they might be cards for higher floors instead.

"If that's the case, where was this guy headed? He couldn't use the stairs or the elevator, yet he needed to access higher levels to open doors with these cards."

Shiller felt like he encountered a bug, "Eternity, take a look at this stupid code of yours!"

Shiller took a deep breath, calming his nerves. He waited in the office on the second floor, ready to take out whoever came in first.

The returning Dark Elves took longer than expected. Shiller waited ten minutes before finally encountering today's third unfortunate soul.

After knocking him out too, Shiller finally found an elevator card on him. He entered the elevator.

Inside the elevator were two rows of buttons. Shiller, following habit, pressed the lower-left button, intending to go to the energy core underground.

Instead, the elevator began ascending.

Feeling the upward motion beneath his feet, Shiller started doubting if he was experiencing an illusion. How come he pressed the bottom button yet the elevator was going up? Was there a difference between a Dark Elf elevator's logic and a human's???

Not knowing where the elevator had stopped, as soon as the doors opened, Shiller quickly turned into a beam of moonlight and dashed out, having heard footsteps outside.

He moved fast, and his pursuers didn't clearly see what was happening, but instinctively sensed an intruder. They shouted and pursued with guns in the direction Shiller fled.

Shiller raced down the corridor and hid behind a blind spot. The two chasing Dark Elves were confused, not spotting his exact location, allowing Shiller to sneak past and return to the elevator.

Back at the elevator, Shiller hesitated a moment before pressing the topmost button.

Again, the elevator ascended.

Shiller was exasperated. He took a photo of the elevator buttons with his phone and sent it to Loki, captioned, "Why does every elevator button I press go up?"

A few seconds later, Loki replied, "Dark Elf elevators are numbered from right to left and top to bottom. The top-right is -1, the top-left is 14."

Shiller checked his image and realized he had pressed 8 and 14 before, no wonder the elevator kept going up.

"Stupid design," Shiller typed furiously and pressed the -1 button.

As the elevator descended, Loki responded, "The Fairy Palace's elevators are also designed like this, haven't you noticed?"

"Stupid Fairy Palace."

"What are you even doing?"

"Being a Superhero."

"What kind of Superhero uses an elevator?"

"Me... and Eddie."

"He's a coward, are you too?"

"Stupid Prince."
