Dawnless Sovereign-Chapter 84: Master Nines Wrath
Zhao Shanhe rushed into Dongfang Sansan's office, and as soon as a soundproofing enchantment was set up, he immediately began crying.
"I can't keep living like this, Master Nine! My reputation has been swept to the ground!"
"What's going on? Who did this to you?"
"Shen Zhixuan!"
Zhao Shanhe gave Dongfang Sansan a recount of events, and the latter's expression instantly darkened.
His gaze was as cold as ice as it settled on Zhao Shanhe, and Zhao Shanhe was so frightened that he didn't even dare to cry anymore.
"You feel hard done by? You feel like you're making a big sacrifice? What about the sacrifices made by your fallen comrades?"
Zhao Shanhe immediately stood up straight and put on a solemn expression
He could tell that Dongfang Sansan was truly angry!
"You come crying to me at the first bit of adversity you face? Who gave you permission to come here?!" Dongfang Sansan yelled in a furious voice as he slammed his fist onto his desk.
Zhao Shanhe lowered his head in a shameful silence.
"Useless!" Dongfang Sansan snapped. "Have you served at the top dog of the southeastern headquarters for so long that you've forgotten how to carry out missions? This is a mission! Not a request! I'm not fooling around with you! You don't need to know why, you just need to know what's required of you right now and do it!
“Even if I need you to die for this cause, I expect you to lay down your life without any hesitation! How dare you come crying to me! Do you know how heavy the repercussions of this visit of yours will be?"
Zhao Shanhe's face had turned deathly pale.
He had never seen Dongfang Sansan so furious before!
In the past, no matter how big a misstep someone made, the most that Dongfang Sansan would ever tell them was that he was a little disappointed, and even that was already an extremely severe piece of criticism.
However, that was nothing compared with the furious tirade that Zhao Shanhe was currently being subjected to, and he now knew that he had made a massive mistake in coming here.
"If this is genuinely too much for you to bear, then I'll get someone to replace you. You can go now."
Zhao Shanhe immediately fell to his knees.
"I'm sorry, Master Nine! I didn't realize the gravity of the situation! Please give me another chance!"
"I don't think you have the ability to complete your mission!"
"I do! Please, Master Nine! Give me a chance to atone for my mistake!"
Dongfang Sansan massaged his glabella in silence for a moment, then finally relented, "Fine, but this is the only second chance you're going to get! If something like this happens again, don't even bother coming to me. Just put an end to your own life."
"Yes, Master Nine!"
Zhao Shanhe felt as if his heart were about to leap out of his throat.
Never could he have imagined that he would receive such an enraged reaction from Dongfang Sansan.
Moments later, the door to Dongfang Sansan's office was opened, and Zhao Shanhe made his way out from inside in a timid fashion behind a cold and stoic Dongfang Sansan.
Zhao Shanhe seemed to want to say something, but didn't dare to make a sound.
The two of them made their way into the office area, and even though everyone was pretending to work diligently, they were all listening intently to hear what type of interaction would take place between the two.
They could tell from Zhao Shanhe's demeanor that there was definitely something going on.
"You can go back now," Dongfang Sansan said in a placid voice.
"Master Nine, can you say something to Shen Zhixuan?" Zhao Shanhe implored in a low voice.
"No. Clean up your own mess yourself. If you come to me again over something like this, I'll strip you of your position as chief supervisor!"
With that, Dongfang Sansan departed, paying no further heed to Zhao Shanhe.
The careful anticipation on Zhao Shanhe's face slowly turned to resignation, and everyone was very amused by his predicament.
"Alright, I'll be leaving now, Master Nine," Zhao Shanhe said in a dejected manner.
Dongfang Sansan didn't even bother to respond, and Zhao Shanhe was left to stand on his own in the office area in a state of frozen embarrassment.
Finally, someone cracked and burst into laughter, and everyone else quickly joined them.
Zhao Shanhe's face instantly turned beetroot red with fury and embarrassment, and he stormed out of the office area in indignation.
Even on the way back to the southeastern headquarters, Zhao Shanhe was still sweating profusely with more than a hint of lingering fear in his eyes.
He had just been on the receiving end of the most furious outburst that had ever been seen in Dongfang Sansan.
It was an utterly terrible feeling, and he would've been inclined to put an end to his life out of shame and guilt had it not been for the fact that he still had a mission to complete.
Looks like I'll have to continue being the scapegoat...

After work, Fang Che made his way down the street in a blatant manner, making no effort to conceal himself.
Ever since that attempt that was made on his life, he had always been very careful after leaving work, constantly taking different routes to ensure that he could shake off any potential pursuers.
Even after returning home, he didn't dare to light any lamps, trying to manufacture the false image that there was no one home.
Furthermore, he had purchased a series of small houses littered throughout the city, and he would occasionally go and rest in those alternative residences as opposed to the Virtue Manor.
However, on this day, he was walking down the street toward one of those houses without a care in the world.
He had already noticed two days ago that he was being followed.
He had managed to shake them off by adopting a disguise using his Covert Shapeshifting Technique, but they were like a sword that was constantly looming over his head, and he was determined to lure them out. 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
After walking for a while, he knew that he had already been spotted, and in order to lure out his pursuers, he began putting on an act, suddenly speeding up as he made his way into an alley.
However, before he could make it through the alley onto the opposite street, six figures descended out of the sky, forming a tight encirclement around him.
His first reaction was to release a signal flare, but it was struck down by a flying dagger before it had a chance to gain any height.
"You're not getting away this time, Administrator Fang. You can try yelling for help, but we're a bit far from the Hall of Protectionists, aren't we?"
"You've been killing a lot of our people of late, Administrator Fang," someone else sneered. "Have you been enjoying yourself? Looks like karma has come back to bite you."
All six of Fang Che's assailants were Warlords, and they closed in around Fang Che like a pack of hunting predators approaching their prey.
They were going to kill him, then hang his body up on the tallest building in the city to show everyone what became of those who opposed the Church of the Self-Righteous!
"There are only six of you?" Fang Che jeered. "What a pitiful lineup."
"The six of us are already more than enough to send you on your way. Were you hoping for a more grandiose departure to the afterlife?"
"I'm just disappointed that there are only six of you for me to kill."
The six Warlords erupted into laughter.
"If we didn't know any better, we'd think that you were a Sovereign or something! Did you really think that we don't know that you're only a second-rank Lord?"
Fang Che stood with his hands clasped behind his back, looking down on his assailants as he sneered, "If you know so much about me, then surely you're aware of my status in the Hall of Protectionists! I've been assigned a powerful bodyguard to ensure my safety! You can still run away now, but it'll be too late for you once my bodyguard makes a move."
The six Warlords were guffawing with mirth at this point.
"Ah yes, the all-important Administrator Fang that was rewarded twenty merit points for his brilliant feats. Where is this bodyguard of yours? How about you ask him to come out?"
Fang Che heaved a faint sigh, then ordered, "Kill them!"
The six Warlords were looking at Fang Che as if they were watching an act from a pitiful clown. In their eyes, this was clearly a desperate final act from him to try and intimidate them.
However, the mocking sneers on their faces were quickly replaced with shock and horror as the night sky was lit up by a streak of radiant swordlight brighter than the hot sun on a summer's day!
The streak of swordlight appeared from behind Fang Che, and it instantly pierced through the bodies of the six Warlords, killing them on the spot.
Six plumes of black smoke rose up into the air as the six Warlords fell to the ground, their faces still etched with horrified astonishment.
"How did you know I've been following you all this time?"
Fang Che turned around to face the white-robed man standing that had appeared behind him, the very same one that he had encountered earlier in the day.
He was in the process of sheathing his sword while looking at Fang Che with a curious expression.
"I wouldn't have intentionally lured out those people if you hadn't been following me," Fang Che replied as he swiftly lopped off the heads of the six Warlords one by one.
"They're already dead, why desecrate their bodies?" the white-robed man asked as his brows furrowed slightly.
"How am I going to prove to the merits department that I killed them if I don't take their heads? These six Warlords will give me enough merit points for a promotion!"
