Chapter 34: The Sunshine Is Just Right
Meng Chao suddenly leaned close to Lin Qin, "What are you thinking about?" Even with him right in front of her, she could still drift off into her thoughts.
"Nothing." Lin Qin snapped back to reality and flashed a smile at Meng Chao.
In the next second, Meng Chao pulled her into his embrace without warning. Taken by surprise, Lin Qin accidentally bumped into her art portfolio, causing it to topple over and the drawings inside to spill out.
"The drawings fell." Lin Qin stated matter-of-factly, "Let go of me. I need to pick them up."
Despite trying to act calm, Lin Qin’s flushed cheeks betrayed the embarrassment she was feeling.
Meng Chao couldn’t resist planting a kiss on her cheek. "I’ll help you pick them up."
Lin Qin, like a cat whose tail had been stepped on, immediately objected, "No need, I’ll do it myself."
Meng Chao teased, "What, are there some shameful drawings in there? Why so nervous?"
"No!" Lin Qin hurried to reply, urging him, "Brother Chao, let go of me. I need to pick up the drawings."
Lin Qin didn’t want Meng Chao to look at them, but Meng Chao was determined. He let go of her and acted faster, crouching down to gather the scattered drawings. Lin Qin couldn’t outpace Meng Chao and had no choice but to watch as he picked them up, flipping through them one by one.
These sketches were Lin Qin’s recent works, and each piece was signed with the date it was completed—yesterday for the latest one, and about half a month ago for the earliest.
The sketches didn’t depict landscapes, but to Lin Qin, they represented the most beautiful scenery. All of them were portraits, with one consistent subject: Meng Chao.
Sitting or standing, resting with closed eyes, or quietly reading a book—each posture was vividly captured on paper. Through these sketches, one could see the emotions of the artist while creating them. Every stroke was laden with profound affection, making the finished works radiate emotional depth.
The love and longing Lin Qin had hidden within the drawings were now laid bare before Meng Chao. His gaze softened immediately as he carefully organized the sketches and placed them back into the portfolio, reaching out to pull Lin Qin back into his arms.
"You like me this much? Hmm?" His intense gaze fixed on Lin Qin, dark eyes as vast and deep as the ocean, as though trying to drown her in their depths.
Under the sunlight, Lin Qin’s flushed face was glowing red. Confronted with such a straightforward question, she was shy yet managed to nod gently and murmur a soft "Hmm."
Yes, I like you this much. From a long time ago, I’ve already been hopelessly enthralled.
"That works out perfectly, because I really like you too." Meng Chao’s hand tightened around Lin Qin’s waist, as if trying to meld her into his embrace. He rested his chin on her shoulder and turned his head to plant a kiss on her ear.
The most beautiful thing in the world is you loving me, and me just so happening to love you back.
That afternoon, the sunshine was just right, and the sea breeze danced playfully.
...
The next morning, the pair’s villa welcomed a new group of visitors.
The guests arrived unexpectedly; neither Lin Qin nor Meng Chao knew they were coming. It wasn’t until the doorbell rang that Meng Chao went out to answer it.
The visitor was Chen Jingqing, a legend in the Mandarin music industry, a superstar of the highest caliber whose fame has remained untouchable since his debut. A record-breaker who continues to be unmatched.
He’s also a singer-songwriter who writes lyrics, composes music, and even directs his own music videos.
Meng Chao hadn’t expected the production team to invite Chen Jingqing and quickly ushered him into the villa. While the film and music industries rarely intersect, and Meng Chao hadn’t met Chen Jingqing before, both were renowned in their respective fields. Though they hadn’t crossed paths, Meng Chao had certainly heard his name.
Chen Jingqing was humorous, highly emotionally intelligent, and lacked any of the diva-like airs one might expect from someone of his stature. Instead, he felt more like an approachable neighborhood big brother.
So, despite this being their first meeting, he and Meng Chao quickly became familiar with each other, their interaction warm and friendly.
Chen Jingqing was an artist under Chutian Entertainment, as was Lin Qin. However, both were low-profile individuals who tended to stay home whenever they weren’t working, so Lin Qin had never met Chen Jingqing.
Still, Lin Qin had heard of this legendary figure within the company. Especially since Chu Hong was a die-hard fan of Chen Jingqing—she often mentioned him to Lin Qin, lamenting how they were in the same company but hadn’t had the chance to meet. Her tone was always full of regret.
When Chen Jingqing arrived, Lin Qin was preparing breakfast. Upon learning that Chen jingqing had traveled overnight from his workplace and hadn’t had time for breakfast, Lin Qin brewed him a cup of coffee and made a plate of scallion oil noodles.
An odd combination, but unexpectedly harmonious in flavor.
Right after breakfast was finished, the doorbell rang again. It seemed Chen Jingqing wasn’t their only guest this time.
Meng Chao was about to stand up to answer the door when Lin Qin beat him to it. She said, "I’ll go."
Meng Chao paused and smiled, "Alright."
Lin Qin wanting to actively engage with the world and unfamiliar people was more effective than any medication treatment could ever be.
Even so, Meng Chao was still concerned. His gaze followed Lin Qin as she walked along the cobblestone path to the front door, watched her take a deep breath to muster her courage, and then open the door to an unknown individual.
Lin Qin was nervous; sweat had already formed in her palms. The short path from the yard to the door had been rehearsed in her mind many times, planning what she would say and do upon opening the door. But now that she was really standing there, her mind went entirely blank, and all her previous rehearsals disappeared. She even had a fleeting thought of retreating.
Instinctively stepping back, she felt like something blocked her retreat. After another deep breath, she stepped forward again.
She placed her sweaty hand on the doorknob, moved it, and pulled it open. Movements so simple for others yet requiring her full strength.
The door opened, and Lin Qin saw the man standing outside, hand on the doorbell.
The man was excessively handsome, almost unfairly so.
"Hello, Mr. Lin," he said. His voice, kissed by heaven, made even a simple greeting sound utterly melodious. He introduced himself: "I’m Han Zhi. Zhi as in ’stop.’"
Lin Qin snapped out of her daze from Han Zhi’s voice, nervously inviting him inside, "Hello, please... please come in." Though not as polished as her mental rehearsal, overall, she deemed her performance passable.
Lin Qin guided Han Zhi into the villa, keeping a safe distance as they walked. Welcoming Han Zhi in herself marked a significant personal milestone for Lin Qin.
After changing into indoor shoes, Han Zhi approached Meng Chao and Chen Jingqing, respectfully introducing himself once more.
He looked at Chen Jingqing, his eyes gleaming with light.
It was the gaze of an avid fan meeting his idol.
Meng Chao noticed this immediately. Understanding dawned, and he broke into a knowing smile.
