Chapter 457: 215. New Year in Iwate Prefecture: Whose Little Sister? (12)

Iwate Prefecture, Northern Sanlu City, Xiao Xiu Coast

By the coast, a row of fishing boats quietly moored on the beach, salmon hung out to dry on the shore;

a breakwater stretching all the way into the sea;

at the end of the breakwater stood a tall white lighthouse;

and beyond, the blue sky and the vast ocean.

Little Lian gaped, gawking stupidly at the scenery before her as her eyes swirled with light, seemingly spinning.

For her, who had lived in a small village all her life and barely seen taxis, the largest body of water she had seen was the stream that flowed through her village.

"Little Lian," Dubian Che said.

Little Lian turned her head, her face still showing an expression of shock.

"What you’re now looking at is the Pacific Ocean, which occupies half of the world’s ocean area."

"Technically, it’s 49.8%," Kiyono Lin was the only one who would say such a thing.

Little Lian stared at the ocean, her childlike voice saying its name, "Pacific Ocean."

Then, she suddenly spread her legs apart, cupped her hands around her mouth like a megaphone, and shouted,

"So amazing, so amazing, so amazing, the Pacific Ocean is so amazing!"

After shouting, she turned her head back towards Dubian Che and said with a calm yet excited childish voice,

"Che, I like the Pacific Ocean!"

"That’s great," Dubian Che pointed towards the white lighthouse extending into the sea, "If you like it, run over there and tell it loudly!"

"Okay!" Little Lian nodded vigorously and ran along the long breakwater towards the Pacific Ocean.

As she ran, she shouted,

"Pacific Ocean, I like you!"

"Pacific Ocean, I like you!"

The large water flask on her back swung from side to side, as if it were also running along with Little Lian.

Dubian Che and Kiyono Lin smiled as they watched her run.

Even Jiutiao Meiji’s expression softened slightly.

When the three of them leisurely reached the end of the breakwater, beneath the white lighthouse, Little Lian was bending over, panting and propping up her little knees.

The water flask slung over her shoulder touched the ground on its bottom.

"Do you still like the Pacific Ocean?" Dubian Che asked.

"Ha, ha, ha," Little Lian caught her breath, straightened up, and wiped her forehead with her sleeve, "The Pacific Ocean, so hot."

Dubian Che couldn’t help laughing, took the water flask from her, and poured her a cup of water.

Little Lian held the lid of the water flask with both hands, blew on it twice, and then gulped it all down in one go.

The breakwater looked beautiful from afar, but close up, the sea breeze stung the face.

"Let’s go, there’s nothing to see," Jiutiao Meiji said impatiently, gathering her long hair that the wind had blown about.

Kiyono Lin, although silent, her pretty and cute little face also showed her desire to leave.

The two ladies truly lived up to their beauty, even with their long hair blown messy by the wind, they did not look disheveled at all. Instead, they looked as beautiful as starlets taking artistic photos, with the intentional effect of a hairdryer blowing their hair.

"Just hang in there a little longer, we’ll take a photo and then leave," Dubian Che took out his phone and stepped a few paces away from the three, "Come on, cute ladies, please get a bit closer to each other."

The two young ladies didn’t move.

"Little Lian, you stand in the middle, pull the two sisters together."

"Okay!"

Little Lian held Kiyono Lin with her left hand and Jiutiao Meiji with her right.

Kiyono Lin in turn held Little Lian’s hand, while Jiutiao Meiji didn’t pull away, still letting Little Lian lead her.

"Very good, one, two, three, cheese!"

Only Little Lian joined Dubian Che in shouting.

Unfortunately, the face of the first-grade elementary school student still had no smile; too serious for her own good.

The two young ladies also had expressionless faces.

Would the Pacific Ocean like a group of three like this?

After taking the photo, they walked back.

As they walked, Dubian Che sent the photo to the Dubian family’s group chat and then to Jiutiao’s mother and Kiyono’s mother.

"How do you have my mother’s contact?" Jiutiao Meiji stared at his phone screen.

"I added her on Christmas."

"I can’t believe you even have my mother’s contact," Kiyono Lin said with an icy face.

"..."

"What do you usually talk about with my mother?" both young ladies asked at the same time.

They looked at each other for a moment, then averted their eyes.

Dubian Che was safe.

If it had been just one person, he would’ve had to explain a lot.

"Che, come look!" Ahead, Little Lian knelt by the edge of the breakwater and shouted.

"Don’t get too close, be careful," Dubian Che reminded.

When they arrived, they had noticed the sea urchin farms on both sides of the breakwater.

The clear water revealed the sea urchins, arrogantly clinging to the rocks.

"Do you know what these are?" Kiyono Lin asked, tying back her long hair and speaking gently.

"I know!" Little Lian raised her hand, a serious look on her face.

"Please tell us, Lian student."

"Lian student," it was the first time Little Lian was addressed so formally, she almost fell into rapture. Then, shaking her head to bring herself back to reality, she answered loudly, "Sea urchins!"

"Correct," Kiyono Lin said, encouragingly patting her little head.

Little Lian looked at the sea urchins in the water and murmured in a calm voice, "When I think about it, I’ve never eaten sea urchins before."

"I wonder if it’s alright to catch one," Dubian Che looked towards the old lady processing salmon on the beach and called out, "Excuse me, may I catch a sea urchin?"

The old lady nodded vigorously, "Yes, yes!"

Dubian Che bent down to reach, and Little Lian watched him expectantly, with her hands cupped around her cheeks.

"Are you planning to use your hands?" Jiutiao Meiji frowned, "Sea urchin spines are poisonous."

"Don’t worry, just be careful, I’ll only grab the ones on the edge," he reassured.

Jiutiao Meiji spoke at the same time Kiyono Lin reached out her hand, then pulled back.

The cold sea breeze made no change to her complexion, but her heart wavered – she almost instinctively grabbed the edge of his clothing, just as she had done on Uji Bridge.

Just then, the old lady’s voice came again.

"What’s wrong?" Dubian Che, rolling up his sleeves, looked at her puzzled.
