Chapter 365: 179.Winter Camping (1)_2
"You’re already sixteen, Mr. Dubian."
"Does Leonardo know that? The one who froze to death on the Titanic at twenty, yet was still playing with squirt guns at forty-two."
"...The one who froze to death was the twenty-year-old Jack he portrayed."
"You need to learn to focus on the important things, Kiyono. What I mean is, if a forty-two-year-old can play with squirt guns, it’s perfect reasonable for a sixteen-year-old to play with a magic wand."
There was a silence in the grove, interrupted only by the chirping of birds.
Suddenly, Kiyono Lin began to laugh softly.
With a tone of both resignation and mirth, she sighed, "You always have a bunch of excuses."
Dubian Che had not seen Kiyono’s heartfelt smile for a long time, and even without the sun’s warmth, a warm current flowed through him.
"Wait a second."
"Hm?" Kiyono Lin looked at him in confusion as his face suddenly turned serious.
"You’re not using some underhanded methods to make me like you, are you?"
"No, here comes the main part—"’Kiyono Lin grabbed the ’old magic wand,’ pointed it at Dubian Che, and said, "Fall for me, Dubian, with the Obsession Spell."
She leaned in slightly, and they stared closely into each other’s eyes.
Her lips glistened, exhaling warm breath mingled with a faint mist;
Her eyes as deep and enchanting as a springtime galaxy, her long hair smooth and shiny like silk;
Her voice clear, her waist slender, her heart strong yet lonely;
Was this the Obsession Spell?
Dubian Che felt as if his heart had ceased to beat.
"I need to go find my Meiji." He stood up.
"Flustered? Can’t control yourself? Fallen for me?" Kiyono Lin shot a direct look at him.
"Don’t be ridiculous; I just want to be best friends with you."
"Best friends... This is just the first day of camping, we have two more days, and I will make you change your mind. I’m sure to win this game."
"I’m off."
Dubian Che snatched back the ’old magic wand,’ picked up some firewood, and disappeared into the woods.
Suddenly, Kiyono Lin realized something was wrong: "Why did you take my wood!"
Dubian Che didn’t look back, his wave indicating he was quite pleased with himself.
Kiyono Lin closed her eyes, disliking both hustle and the cold; she loved the sunny patches of the forest.
"Coward."

He emerged from the thicket and went to the cooking area.
"Got the firewood, where should I put it?" he asked Ikeda Kazumi.
Ikeda Kazumi, rapidly beating eggs, replied, "Thanks for your hard work, Mr. Dubian. Take it over to the cooking spot, over there."
Dubian Che walked toward the direction she had pointed with her chin.
The area was mostly occupied by boys who had been shooed away from the cooking area for being clumsy.
Saito Keisuke and the male class representative were squatting in front of a pit, watching boxed rice being cooked directly over the flames, their faces lit red by the fire.
"Where’s Kunimi?" Dubian Che squatted next to the two.
"He’s chopping wood." Saito Keisuke pointed toward a spot not far from the cooking area.
"Chopping wood now? Aren’t we supposed to wait for the campfire tonight?"
"You’re picking up firewood, and by the time you get back, it’ll be dark, and we can have dinner straight away," the class representative said, adjusting his glasses. "Did you sneak off to Class 2?"
"Meiji is sleeping; why would I go to Class 2? What are you guys talking about?"
"Discussing the campfire tonight," Saito Keisuke explained. "We don’t have girlfriends like you; we need to find one."
"It’s you who wants to find one, I don’t need that," the class representative aloofly propped his glasses with his middle finger.
After chatting for a while, the girls came over to ask if the rice was ready.
The class representative put on gloves and opened the lid of the iron box: "Seems like it’s burnt."
"It is burnt," Saito Keisuke too noticed the burnt smell.
"Seriously, what good are you guys? Can’t cook, can’t even boil rice without burning it!"
"Pathetic, this entire box of rice is your responsibility to eat!"
"Wait, Mr. Dubian doesn’t have to, he collected so much firewood, you worked hard, the burnt rice isn’t your fault."
"That’s not right!" Saito Keisuke stood, "It’s because this guy was chatting with us that the rice burnt!"
"It’s your fault too! You were supposed to be looking after the rice, why did you get caught up chatting?"
"This..."
The class representative stood up, placing a hand on Saito Keisuke’s shoulder: "Let’s not worry, it’s just a bit burnt, it’s still edible."
"Shouldn’t at least Dubian have to eat with us?" Saito Keisuke protested.
"I’m partially responsible, I’ll eat this box," Dubian Che said, picking up two sticks, lifting the rice box.
Initially, only a tiny bit at the bottom was burnt; the rest was just a bit smoky. It could be salvaged and eaten, although it would obviously taste a bit off.
"Look," Saito Keisuke pointed at Dubian Che and said to the girls, "He said it himself!"
The girls conferred briefly and then irritably told him,
"Fine, this box of rice, we’ll let you two off!"
They rolled their eyes at Saito Keisuke and the class representative, then turned and walked back to the cooking area.
"Do good-looking guys always get special treatment?" Saito Keisuke wondered about life.
"It’s not just that he’s good-looking," the class representative cleaned his glasses and stepped away from the fire. His lenses fogged up in the cold, "He has good grades, he’s a sports ace, and he’s a national gold medalist in a soloist competition."
"I suddenly feel like killing someone."
"You can’t beat him." The class representative put his glasses back on, reflecting the light.
"Isn’t there another way?"
"You can consider giving him your cherished sister-type games to play. Once he’s addicted, secretly report to Jiutiao. You should be able to see him getting a scolding."
Saito Keisuke clapped his hands together: "That’s what I’ll do!"
"You two," Dubian Che disposed of the burnt rice, "How dare you discuss how to deal with me right in front of me? You can enjoy proper rice all thanks to me."
"I’d rather eat the burnt rice."
"I’d rather eat the burnt rice."
The jealousy of humans is truly frightening.
The curry for lunch was very delicious.
Actually, it didn’t taste any better than what you would have at home or at a restaurant, but thanks to the triple picnic deliciousness multiplier, along with the fact that it was cooked by the hands of a sixteen-year-old girl, it tasted exceptionally good.
