Darkstone Code-Chapter 790 - 0788 Work Requirements [This - is sponsored and additionally updated by: DUKE777 - 2/?]
As one of the main financiers behind the presidential campaign, Mr. President has a very good impression of Lynch.
Unlike the people from the large consortiums Mr. President is familiar with, who often demand promises of political concessions before even signing the check, Lynch did no such thing.
There were no difficult demands, no deliberate manipulation in his attitude. Lynch didn’t even ask anything or make any excessive requests; he just provided the funds in one go. This left Mr. President with a very positive impression of him.
Other financiers, aside from their unreasonable demands, do not release funds all at once. Many provide them in installments, such as every certain period or upon reaching certain goals.
From a positive viewpoint, this approach allows for effective management of funds to prevent misuse.
But the method itself insults Mr. President, as if saying, "I don’t trust you," which can be quite hurtful.
The more this is the case, the more remarkable Lynch’s "generosity" appears, especially since he is a good friend of Truman, which can also be seen as being "one of us."
Sometimes, whether someone is "one of us" can be quite magical. Mr. President raised his hand, and everyone stopped in their tracks. He walked over to Lynch with a smile and extended his hand for a shake.
"When did you get back?"
"Just returned a couple of days ago."
Small talk without substance, things that matter are not suitable to discuss in this place.
Mr. President glanced at Catherine standing beside Lynch, reminded of something someone had told him: Catherine was Lynch’s ex-girlfriend, but they certainly still keep in touch.
This was for sure, without a doubt. If they weren’t in touch, would Lynch specifically have Mr. Truman tell him about this?
It’s important to note that the internship slots at the President’s Mansion are personally appointed by the President himself, and without his consent, no one can pull any strings to get in!
"You did very well over there, Truman told me. We’ll catch up one-on-one later, but for now...," he said with a gentleman’s smile, casting another look at Catherine, "perhaps I should allow this lady to leave work early!"
The interns standing nearby were all filled with sentiments and sighed in admiration. They never had the thought of comparing themselves with Lynch. While they hadn’t even taken over family matters, Lynch had already created a business empire on his own.
Darkstone Capital is already showing its power. Some large consortiums have given it high praise, especially with Lynch’s cooperation with the Ministry of Defense and the military resulting in the establishment of Darkstone Security, now the Federation’s largest military contractor!
This fall, Darkstone Security recruited two thousand young people from society. What’s more frightening is that these recruits immediately start comprehensive military training once hired, something rarely seen on the Federation Mainland.
The reason Lynch can achieve this is that roughly eighty percent of these two thousand individuals are from the military. It’s a very special form of collaboration.
Lynch uses his own money to train elite forces for the army, and in return, the military grants him the maximum freedom. Reportedly, according to some confidentiality agreements they’ve signed, when the military needs, they can summon the military personnel of Darkstone Security.
In short, Lynch has, in ways unimaginable to many, avoided the fiercest capital competition domestically, rising rapidly from outside the Federation and feeding back into the country. Nowadays, trying to snipe Darkstone Capital is extremely difficult and unlikely to succeed. No one would be foolish enough to engage in such an unprofitable venture.
Faced with someone like Lynch, how could those "ordinary" young people even think of comparing themselves?
Catherine herself felt quite surprised. She knew Lynch was capable but didn’t expect his capabilities to be so vast that even Mr. President would allow her to leave work early just for their "date."
The favor... is indeed immense.
Catherine didn’t move. During this time, she learned a lesson: what you hear isn’t necessarily what others truly want you to hear, so she didn’t move.
In good humor, Mr. President glanced at her again and said with a smile, "Go change your clothes, this is a special permission from me. If anyone questions it, have them come to me."
Lynch nodded, and only then did Catherine thank him and head to the changing room while the President and Lynch stepped aside for a private conversation.
"There’s a charity gala in a couple of days, you must come." Mr. President’s voice was gentle, with no prying eyes around, not even showing any signs that could easily be misinterpreted by people.
Lynch nodded, "What’s it about, and what should I prepare for?"
"It’s related to some orphans. In the past two years, the birthrate has increased compared to before, but the situation of abandoned babies is also common."
"My wife organized this charity gala to auction some items to fund the construction of orphanages and to protect the legal rights of these abandoned babies."
During the Great Depression, the only happiness people could experience was that of low cost, and the dire financial situations made it difficult for people to consider the costs of abortions.
In the Federation, whether it’s medical or surgical abortion, aside from a significant sum that ordinary people find hard to afford, there are also various regulations.
In some states, abortion is illegal, while in others, it is legal but requires signing agreements. Overall, many babies unexpectedly come into the world during this process.
Their parents weren’t ready to welcome these newborns, and shortly after birth, these babies were abandoned, a very common occurrence.
At the end of the year before last, a photographer took a picture titled ’Baby on the Trash Heap,’ which won various awards.
In a trash heap made of household waste, there lay a deceased baby with eyes open, quietly lying on the heap looking at the sky.
This photo was described as capturing ’a scene that strikes the soul,’ and although the photographer won numerous awards, he also suffered severe depression as a result, still undergoing treatment today.
Abandoned babies have become a significant social issue, and organizing a charity event like this could provide essential support for the upcoming campaign.
Everyone wants others to be good people, only they themselves aren’t. If Mr. President and the First Lady could show a willingness to shoulder social responsibility, people would emotionally lean more towards them.
Since it’s a charity gala, there will certainly be a philanthropic donation event. If Lynch is to participate, it would be best to prepare some auction items.
The auction process in such an event is short but interesting.
Typically, participants donate their belongings and then spend money to buy back what they donated. Sounds... silly, doesn’t it?
But that’s precisely the essence of charity!
The whole process legally and reasonably avoids any potential criticism, demonstrates the benevolence of the participants, provides heightened tax deductions, and spares them from some attacks by those hostile to the rich.
Lynch nodded, expressing his intent to participate, and Mr. President shook his hand once more, "I’ll have the invitation sent to you, remember to bring a date!"
After patting Lynch on the arm, he left surrounded by others.
Soon after, Catherine, having finished changing, and Lynch left the President’s Mansion. She commented with a sigh, "I feel like the whole world is your friend. I’ve been reading the news; it says that you have good relations with the Gafura Imperial Family, particularly with that princess."
Competing with others doesn’t intimidate Catherine. Back when Lynch was in school, he was no idle figure, with rich girls pursuing him, and yet, Catherine won out in the end, didn’t she?
But when she thought there might be the addition of a powerful nation’s princess into the equation, she felt less confident than before.
Lynch opened the car door for Catherine and laughed, saying, "It’s for work!"
Damn, ’for work!’ Catherine chuckled, her mouth tilting into a smile, "You’re really busy with work!"
Lynch didn’t feel awkward at all, "Indeed, it is quite busy!"
As they got into the car, their playful banter gradually faded, and Catherine inquired about the plans for dinner that evening.
"Ms. Trish’s uncle was successfully elected as Shepherd, which means she holds control over about five million ballots from the church members, historically a key source of votes each year."
"She’s planning on actively engaging in various political activities. With help from her uncle and her father, if she wishes to pursue a political career, she would start at a very high level, probably as a governor or state legislator."
"Moreover, her connections are broad, beneficial for your future development."
"Me?", Catherine was surprised, "What future development of mine?"
Lynch turned to look at her, "A female politician, do you like the title?"
Catherine looked a bit bewildered, "I’m not sure, is it really nice to be a female politician?"
She shook her head, "I never thought I would walk this path. I don’t know."
The future felt a little too uncertain for the girl. She wasn’t sure what it would be like, but it certainly wouldn’t be as she had imagined.
As Lynch got wealthier and more influential, many things were changing.
Lynch held her hand, looking at her, "Everyone’s running forward. So am I. If you don’t want to fall behind, you’d best try to keep up."
"I’m not trying to force you into doing things you dislike. I will respect your wishes. If you don’t want to run, I won’t insist on it either."
"Whether you want a peaceful ordinary life or an exciting yet somewhat exhausting one, I’ll give it to you."
Ultimately, she didn’t say she wanted to give up. Opportunities don’t present themselves all the time, nor do they always fall into one’s lap.
She could tell Lynch wasn’t trying to use her for anything; he was just trying to add value to her.
As for why to add value, or what added value could achieve, she wasn’t clear. She believed that one day she would understand and wanted to see the result with her own eyes when that day came.
