Chapter 973: Chapter 226: Borrowing the Dragon Carp’s Blade (Part 2)

However, after diving into the sea for more than ten miles, he still failed to see Zhang Yan’s figure, feeling extremely perplexed. He thought to himself, "The youngster was only a step behind me. How could he have run so fast? Could it be some sort of magical artifact?"

After circling around, he still didn’t find anything. Just when he was feeling irritated, he suddenly detected a surge of spiritual mechanism towards the southeast, seemingly heading for the sea surface. Looking intently, he saw it was indeed Zhang Yan. Without wasting a moment, he transformed into a streak of rainbow light and chased after it.

In the blink of an eye, he burst through the sea, reaching the surface, only to see an island before him. Zhang Yan stood atop the peak, holding a purple flower, his robes fluttering, smiling slightly as if anticipating his arrival.

Shen Lintu stood in the air and said in a deep voice, "Zhang Yan, what are you up to?"

As he spoke, he didn’t stand on ceremony; he raised his hand and unleashed a sword light downward. Just as he was about to use another Divine Skill, his hand paused in surprise as he looked ahead.

In disbelief, with just one casual strike, he sliced Zhang Yan cleanly in half, blood spilling all over. Upon closer inspection, he noticed the anomaly and angrily exclaimed, "So, the youngster used a Fake Body Daoist Skill."

What he hadn’t realized was that his strike not only destroyed Zhang Yan’s Fake Body but also shattered the "Yaozi Zan Flower" in the process.

Though he was a Nascent Soul cultivator, he had never heard of this flower, not knowing it was what the Dragon Carp most desired. So even upon seeing it, he paid it no mind,

But at this moment, he suddenly heard a faint roar from hundreds of miles away, shaking the sea and sky with a rumbling sound, leaving his face filled with surprise.

He thought to himself, "Judging by the sound, could it be that Dragon Carp? Appears I’ve stumbled into that old demon’s territory. This old demon may not be very bright, but its Daoist Cultivation is quite profound. It’s best not to face it. Annoyingly, the youngster must not have gone far, but I wonder where he might be now."

The Dragon Carp is a rare species, unable to take human form, but with an incredibly long lifespan, even living for over ten thousand years. This Dragon Carp had been roaming the seas since Shen Lintu began his cultivation, already living for thousands of years. 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢

This sea region was the territory of the old demon. Shen Lintu knew this, but since the old demon rarely showed itself, he hadn’t given it much thought until now.

He had no intention of encountering this Dragon Carp, but leaving now felt somewhat unwilling. Just as he hesitated, he saw a sword light flash, with Zhang Yan appearing nearby, smiling slightly and saying, "Fellow Daoist, were you looking for me?"

Shen Lintu hesitated momentarily, then his face lit up with joy, "Zhang Yan, you’re bold enough to face me again. Let’s see where you can escape this time!"

He shook his sleeve, causing a burst of bright light, and hundreds of flying sabers were unleashed simultaneously.

Zhang Yan, however, merely smiled. A sword light rose, enveloping him as he transformed into a streak of light and flew away.

"Where are you going!"

Shen Lintu finally caught sight of him and was unwilling to let go. Exerting his force, he propelled the Sword Light, leaping in sync with it, merging his form with the saber to become a dazzling white light, closely chasing after him.

Though Zhang Yan flew ahead, he only circled around, never leaving the sea region.

After three or four rounds, a hundred-zhang high wave surged from afar, a dragon-headed fish-bodied demon with horns on its head, accompanied by no less than a hundred Python Spirits and thousands of Demon Sharks, along with countless other spirit monsters, raising monstrous waves as they rushed forward.

Shen Lintu, having sensed it as well, realized the old demon had arrived, feeling a bit apprehensive. However, with Zhang Yan not leaving, he had no reason to depart either.

The dragon-headed fish-bodied demon arrived in an instant, letting out a roar, wrapping massive amounts of seawater, and with a booming sound, jumped out of the sea.

This demon had long whiskers and wide lips, appearing very dignified, covered in armor-like golden scales that shone brightly under the dazzling sun. The body was a hundred-zhang long, with only two claws below the belly, each with three toes, and supported by a swirling black cloud underneath. It hovered before the two of them.

With such a Great Demon before them, Shen Lintu and Zhang Yan each retreated a hundred zhang, temporarily putting the fight on hold.

Zhang Yan saw the old demon glaring at Shen Lintu with turtle-like eyes, knowing his plan had succeeded.

Earlier, when he passed by, the Dragon Carp had come out just from smelling the Yaozi Zan Flower. Hence, he deduced the flower had a significant allure for the demon. Therefore, setting this trap was intended to lure Shen Lintu into it, hoping they might fight each other, allowing him to benefit from the chaos.

This scheme was a spur-of-the-moment plan, unsure if he could outsmart Shen Lintu or if the Dragon Carp would fall for it either.

But with a thirty to forty percent chance of success, it was worth the attempt, even if it cost him a flower.

With his current cultivation, even if he set a Great Array and attracted the Dragon Carp over, he might not be able to capture it alive.

Shen Lintu, sensing things turning unfavorable, realized that the Dragon Carp Demon was wholly ignoring Zhang Yan, focusing ninety percent of its attention on him.

A few twitches of his eyelids later, he coughed and spoke courteously, "Fellow Daoist, please forgive us. We unintentionally stumbled into your domain, not intending to offend. If displeased, this poor Daoist shall take his leave."

Yet the Dragon Carp remained silent, and just as Shen Lintu was about to say more, he suddenly felt a warning in his heart, exclaiming, "Oh no!"

Before he could dodge, a massive fish-scaled tail, like a mountain, burst from the sea, smashing against his Protective Treasure Light. Although it didn’t break through, it sent him tumbling on the cloud.

Rolling once, he stood back up, his face a mix of anger and shame.

He hadn’t expected this old demon to act so unreasonably, attacking him outright. As an elder of the Chongyue True Temple, being struck by a demon like this was an undeniable disgrace. Gritting his teeth, he said, "You scaly, horned, neither-dragon-nor-fish fool, do you think you can easily bully me?"
