Daoist Competition-Chapter 1094 - 287: Quail Spirit Bird
Above the peak of the Nanhua Sect, Lu Muqiu arrived riding on a cloud, stopping in front of Nie Gui. He respectfully cupped his hands and introduced his name, followed by a polite remark.
"I am but a latecomer, having long admired Master Nie’s renowned name. During our upcoming duel, I hope that fellow Daoist will hold back your strength."
Nie Gui glanced at him, noticing that although he was neatly and simply dressed, his face was covered by a mask that revealed only his eyes. With a frown, he shouted, "If you leave now, I may spare your life, otherwise once the duel begins, there will be no mercy."
Unlike his brother Nie Zhang’s calm demeanor, having cultivated for over four hundred years and being of high stature within the sect, Nie Gui was very arrogant, having encountered few rivals.
Lu Muqiu was not displeased, presenting himself as a humble junior, cupping his fists and respectfully saying, "I bear the responsibilities entrusted by my sect, I dare not retreat so easily. I hope Master Nie can understand."
Nie Gui’s gaze turned cold, "Considering your respectful manners, I shall allow you to strike first, so no one can say I bullied you."
Lu Muqiu nodded and said, "Then I shall not be courteous."
He leaned slightly backward, retreating a distance of fifty zhang, creating some space between himself and Nie Gui. He then waved his hand and released a mass of smoke from his sleeve. The smoke was thick and muddy, rolling like stirred sediment, and within just a few breaths, the pristine blue air within a thousand zhang was sullied.
The myriad of cultivators in Chengyuan Gorge could only gaze at the thick lead clouds in the sky, unable to see the figures of the two men.
Not to mention them, even the eyesight of the cultivators on the various peaks spectating the battle could not penetrate it.
On the Hai Zhen Temple Peak, the Yu Cultivator placed a finger horizontally across his eye, instantly opening his Dharma Eye, shooting out a brilliant light more than a foot long, seeing clearly the situation within the cloud mist.
Seated nearby, the elder spoke with appreciation, "Junior Nephew Yu, your skill in this ’Inner Vision Restoration Dharma Eye’ surpasses that of Nephew Chen by a margin."
At this point, his expression dimmed, shaking his head with a sigh, "What a pity about Nephew Chen, if not for his strong-willed nature, he could still contribute with his talents. With his aptitude, among the younger generation, few could surpass him."
The Yu Cultivator spoke in a deep voice, "I have heard that a junior sister Zhang Zhen under the Baoyang Great Transformation Cave Heaven Sect has progressed rapidly in the way of inner vision."
The elder’s eyes suddenly sparkled with admiration and he nodded in agreement, "Indeed, this disciple is extraordinary, deserving of the compliment ’fledgling phoenix.’ Although no one knows her Elixir Formation grade yet, seeing Master Pang’s extensive concealment, it is likely within the Upper Three Grades."
While the two were conversing, cultivators on each peak were also deploying their Dharma techniques to observe the battle. Zhang Yan smiled slightly, closed his eyes, and with his mind reaching out, a sword ball swiftly shot out from his head, emitting a cold starlight. It was his heart and spirit united with the sword, observing the battle with his sword eye. Under this technique, little illusions were no hindrance to him.
At this moment, within that mass of cloud mist, Nie Gui’s vision could only reach three feet. He looked around at the dim world, sneering, "You people from the Demon Sect just love these deceitful tricks. This technique can only fool those lowly heterodox practitioners, in front of me, it amounts to nothing."
He pursed his lips and suddenly let out a clear call that resembled both an eagle and a crane.
The double-headed bird under his feet, upon hearing this sound, suddenly flapped its wings and echoed with a call. The left head suddenly spewed out balls of clear fire. Wherever this fire reached, it cleared the mist entirely.
The right head then lifted and inhaled towards the sky, like a great whale swallowing water, drawing the rolling smoke into its stomach.
After several breaths, all the mist had been swept away, leaving the sky clear once more.
Lu Muqiu felt a chill in his heart; although the method he used was just a small technique, the haze was refined from millennia-old corrupted energy under the Accumulated Stone and Sediment. He didn’t expect it to be broken so cleanly and thoroughly; the unique traits of this spirit bird were beyond his imagination.
The ancestor of this bird species was gathered from South Cliff Continent by the founding ancestor master of the Nanhua Sect and was trained with secret techniques. Due to its difficulty in breeding, only a few are born every thousand years, and among the disciples, very few can tame them, Nie Gui being one of them.
Although this demon cannot transform, its Daoist cultivation is comparable to that of a Nascent Soul True Master. Its strength can tear apart a Great Demon and it possesses the ability to control fire, making it extremely formidable.
Lu Muqiu pondered briefly, suddenly grabbing several strands of Gang Thunder and throwing them forward.
Nie Gui’s eyes held a mocking expression, "Such a petty trick, yet you dare to show off?"
