Damned Healer-Chapter 710: Worrying Future
"Fuck, what the hell are you talking about?!" Pyreus shot back, pretty furious. "Master was infected by the Divine Celestial Poison. Countless Celestial Masters have already died from it in the past. Nothing in this world can survive it for long. Just shut up…"
Suddenly, Pyreus felt a hand rise toward him. When he turned around, his master signaled for him to be quiet.
Turning back to Darian, Chrysos murmured softly, "Sorry, this young one is very immature and impulsive. Do you think you can help me?"
Darian looked into Chrysos' eyes, a bit surprised. He must be someone very experienced, someone who has read a lot.
The universe Darian was in was the legendary Celestial universe, where all the main allies of Heaven's Will above the Immortal level lived. It was the exact same universe the Divine Dragon learned about in the past and wanted to go to. It was a special and unique place, incomparable among all universes.
But the children and relatives of people above the Immortal level were sent to train in this universe, just like Darian was. So from time to time, terrifying and seemingly impossible figures would appear there.
No ordinary person had any idea where or how they appeared, because the part of the universe where the Chaos Tree existed, along with all the powerful figures, was sealed. No common person could enter.
As for the youths who came to cultivate, they were not allowed to speak about where they came from. When Darian was sent, he received a severe warning about it: if he directly said anything, he would be immediately removed from the place, and everyone who heard it would be killed.
Back to the present. Chrysos had certainly thought Darian was a "natural anomaly" that had appeared. The common people of this universe truly believed it was the laws of this universe that randomly created those abnormal individuals.
"Yes," Darian replied calmly. "I've had a natural talent since the day I was born. I can purify poisons or corruption easily. I'm almost certain I can cure you."
Chrysos took a deep breath with great effort. "If you can, I will truly owe you a great debt."
"Good." Darian felt this man was honorable. So he didn't hesitate and waved his hand—
"!"
White power surged out, making the two of them almost jump in shock.
When Darian awakened his soul, he realized all his cores and powers were full. Even the power from Niara's cores had previously been completely filled within him. Of course, after he instinctively activated his manifestation, that extra energy was burned away. But he still had plenty of white power, black power, and the others that belonged to him available.
Chrysos was enveloped by it.
Immediately, he felt warmth spreading through his body. His eyes widened; he could clearly feel that terrible poison being purified.
To his even greater shock… in less than a minute, everything disappeared.
"Master, Master, how do you feel?" Pyreus asked hurriedly.
Then—
Chrysos simply let out a breath and stood up, completely steady and without any issue.
Silence.
For several seconds, neither of them could properly process what they had just witnessed. The Divine Celestial Poison… the most terrifying and feared thing in the entire universe…
"Young Darian…" Chrysos spoke in a serious tone, looking him in the eyes. "I don't know how to thank you."
Darian gave a slight nod. "No need for that. I'll collect the debt right away: take me to your sect. I won't ask for anything big, like breaking the rules. Just help me get a chance to take the test."
The two of them were surprised. He really asked for something that good? Who wouldn't want to bring him into their sect?
Chrysos took a deep breath, observing his sincere expression.
Darian didn't say anything else. He didn't have the nerve to ask for something huge because, for him, using his white power was simple and irrelevant. Besides… he was sure that after he entered, this Palace Master would help him quietly. For him, that was already more than enough.
"All right," Chrysos said seriously. "You're lucky. Coincidentally, the admission test is about to take place at my Golden Crow Sect. Not just anyone can take it; there are many prerequisites and small preliminary evaluations. I can place you directly into the real test, but you don't actually need to pass. Sometimes, some people are accepted even if they fail, because they have unique and interesting abilities for the sect. I'm certain that with your purification power, no one will want to reject you."
"That's perfect for me. I'll take the test properly," Darian replied with a faint smile.
Chrysos took a deep breath, feeling his body completely healed, still unable to believe it. His entire expression and skin began to grow smoother, as if he had rejuvenated many years. Now, he could live for hundreds or thousands of years without issue.
"We need to hurry, or you might miss the test," he said seriously. "Is there anything you still want to do on this planet?"
Darian shook his head. "No. My parents were my only family. I've already avenged them, so there's nothing tying me here."
"Good, then let's depart." 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞
Chrysos spoke and took back his spatial ring from Pyreus.
From it, he pulled out a set of pulsing spatial runes. They floated and joined together, forming a portal that began to shine intensely.
That would take them to the sect, which was very far away, but it required a terrifying amount of resources. Chrysos wouldn't have dared to spend that much before, but now he didn't care.
A few minutes later, the portal stabilized.
He waved to Darian with a welcoming smile. Darian moved calmly and stepped in first.
---
The world before Darian's eyes changed instantly. It turned into an endless redness, with a hot wind blowing against his face.
At that moment, they were floating kilometers above the ground. Looking down, a massive scarlet and golden world stretched out before them.
A flaming mist filled the air, and volcanoes packed with energy could be seen everywhere. Every corner of that planet seemed to be covered in a thick layer of extremely high-level fire runes.
By then, Chrysos and Pyreus were already behind him.
Chrysos waved his hand, still controlling those spatial runes and burning through a huge amount of resources. That made the three of them move rapidly across the planet.
When they arrived at the gates of a large city, they landed on the ground, and Chrysos sent a message to the guards. They immediately rushed toward the back, hurrying off to retrieve something.
The three of them stood there waiting for a bit. At that moment, Darian thought of something and asked Chrysos:
"Once someone becomes a disciple of the sect, can they receive the Golden Crow bloodline? If only this sect has it, wouldn't there be a risk of the bloodline leaking to other powers?"
Darian already knew that all the major sects of this universe were built on some inheritance left behind for mortals. Some, like this Golden Crow Sect, were based on the blood of a Primordial Beast.
So he was curious about how they preserved that power. If the disciples didn't have at least a portion of it, what was even the point of that name?
"That's not something that can be explained in just one or two sentences." Chrysos gave Darian an answer that surprised him a little. "A long time ago, the Golden Crow Sect was a force where half the members were relatives. Although we also accepted outside disciples, there were very few. The control was very strict, and we basically only accepted male disciples, because the Golden Crow's divine techniques are pure fire-element arts. It's extremely difficult for women who cultivate them to conceive, and even worse for them to carry a pregnancy. It affects their bodies a lot, weakening their Yin."
"Reproduction has always been the weak point of sects with Primordial Bloodlines. The most direct consequence is the rapid decrease, with each generation, in the number of disciples. In most cases, pills or other methods can be used to remedy that… but for us, it's almost impossible."
Seeing Darian's expression shift slightly, he continued seriously, a bit worried: "Don't worry. The Golden Crow Sect holds a very high position in the universe. In other sects with many humans like us, their strength stands out because of their huge numbers and overall power. But even if we have only one percent of their numbers, we're still important and feared."
"So… what about the bloodline?" Darian asked, curious.
"Not everyone who enters the sect can receive the bloodline," Chrysos said. "Disciples are divided into three categories. The lowest ones belong to the Flaming Hall, and they can only cultivate other fire techniques; they're not qualified to touch the Golden Crow Canon. The same goes for the upper level, which belongs to the Infernal Flames Hall. The difference is that the fire techniques they can choose are of a higher level."
"In the final category, when a disciple manages to enter the Golden Crow Hall, they can receive a drop of blood diluted ten thousand times, allowing them to officially cultivate the Golden Crow Canon. However, with such a thin bloodline, it's inevitable that they won't be able to pass it on to the next generation; so there's no need to worry about it leaking to outsiders."
Diluted… ten thousand times…
Darian could only let out a faint laugh. That was ridiculously stingy. And that was the treatment for high-level disciples.
Chrysos added, "The Golden Crow bloodline is extremely precious and does not regenerate. Using one drop means one less drop of blood. So most of the bloodlines granted to disciples aren't from the original blood. Instead, the blood essence of a direct heir is chosen and then diluted. Unless there's someone extremely talented, then that person receives a full drop of original blood and is trained directly by the Sect Leader…"
"That's also the sect's greatest vulnerability. The primordial bloodline power of other sects can be passed down through generations by reproduction, expanding their influence. Even if they don't accept outside disciples, they would still grow stronger generation after generation. Unfortunately, the powerful Yang nature of the Golden Crow causes imbalance in all races, even humans. The more we cultivate the Golden Crow Canon to grow stronger, the harder reproduction becomes. If we relied only on transmitting our own bloodline, the sect would grow weaker and weaker. That's why we need to accept a large number of disciples from the Mortal Plane to keep thriving. However, the amount of original bloodline we possess is already extremely scarce, and the time will come when it's finally exhausted. The future of the Golden Crow Sect… is truly very worrying."
At that moment, the guards from earlier hurried back.
"Palace Master, the test is about to begin. We've informed them to wait. Here is the test emblem." One of them spoke and handed it over quickly.
