"Even if you had not asked little brother, I would still have done it," muttered Meng Jiayi as his gaze drifted over to Fan Ha with a subtle flickering in his eyes as it fell on her and Fan Cai.

Fan Ha who seemed to have sensed a change in him, turned to him briefly, and looked at him in the eyes, before turning her head away.

That little look didn’t escape Yang Qing’s eyes.

"Are they?..." thought Yang Qing before pushing the matter to the back of his mind.

..

"Now with the terms of the contract verified by all parties involved, my question is this, why is the contract still active? Envoy Li Tian if I’m not mistaken, should the contract be completed, all copies of the contract disintegrate the instant the terms are completed, am I correct in assuming so?" asked Yang Qing.

"You are,"

"Then how come the contract still remains, despite its period lapsing four months ago? If there was a violation, just like in the completion of the contract, the contract before me should have signs of violation and the amendments activated as a result of said violation.

As far as I can see there are no changes yet to the contract, yet it still remains the same as it was on the day of issuance.

Does any one of you care to explain what is happening here?" asked Yang Qing with his gaze drifting over from Li Tian to Fan Ha, to Meng Jiayi, before finally settling on Xia Yuan.

"Sect Master Xia Yuan, I will have to depend on you to clarify the matter if you don’t mind," said Yang Qing, choosing the current sect master as the best person for that.

Of everyone present, she was the best choice. Fan Ha based on how she was acting, would more than likely be vague on the details and jump straight to the conclusion, which if Yang Qing wasn’t off in his guess would be her falling on the sword, as for Meng Jiayi, he seemed like a person riddled with so much guilt that it may affect how much clarity it provides, which only left Xie Yuan as the only viable choice.

He could have asked Li Tian who would have offered the same clarity as Xie Yuan. As the adjudicator of the contract, he would have just as many answers as the rest of them on what was going on, as the contract would not remain active without their say-so.

The fact that it was operational meant they knew what was happening and they were in support of whatever altered it.

But, with all things considered, Xie Yuan was the better choice. She was there when the contract was being formulated and as a primary party and the relationship she had with the sect and Fan Ha, her emotional attachment to both would make her provide better context.

Xie Yuan sighed softly, her gaze falling on the former sect master who nodded his head to her, before she moved her line of sight to Fan Ha who was just the same, no reaction, and finally it fell on Fan Cai whose ears and neck reddened immediately at seeing her look at him which prompted a small smile on Xie Yuan as she turned back to face Yang Qing.

She let out another soft breath, almost as if she was clearing her chest of all the emotions, pressures, and frustrations that had clogged it up.

"The reason the contract is still active is because there was a violation on it, though neither I nor the sect see it that way at all," Xie Yuan finally said as she cast a slight glance at Fan Ha before it resumed back on Yang Qing.

"Becoming a disciple of the Starlight Lake Sect is the one the best and greatest accomplishments of my life..."

"Mmph.."

Just as Xie Yuan was about to continue, she was cut short by Elder Yu Hui’s short but snarky laugh, which left her livid.

"You.." she said, her expression frosted over, killing intent flashing in her eyes.

"May I remind you both where you are.."

Yang Qing’s voice, like a bucket of cold water, immediately doused the flames of anger that were brewing within Xie Yuan’s body.

"Forgive me for my lack of manners," she said as she politely cupped her fists in apology.

Yang Qing nodded as his attention drifted over to Elder Yu Hui, who was taken aback by the slight pressure he felt from him despite the gap in their cultivation bases.

There was nothing for it, Yu Hui might as well be stronger than Yang Qing, and if they were to fight one one-on-one without external items, Yang Qing would likely not fair well, but he was facing Yang Qing, a judge of the Order, who as such in his capacity as a judge, could borrow a portion of the power contained in the tower they were currently in.

Borrowing that power, he could easily execute everyone present in one swift motion before they even registered what happened.

"Elder Yu Hui, I will have to remind you where you are, where you sit. This may just be an arbitration but the honor and authority of this office must be observed nonetheless. I hope you keep that in mind.." Yang Qing said his calm and his tone even.

"I will," Elder Yu Hui said in a low and awkward voice.

"Is this Yang Qing?" Fan Cai wondered with widened eyes, surprised by the change in the demeanor and aura surrounding Yang Qing.

...

"Sect master Xie Yuan, please continue,"

"Thank you," Xie Yuan said with a slight nod.

"As I said before, joining the Starlight Lake Sect is the greatest achievement of my life and I consider myself fortunate to be a part of it.

Almost all within the sect share the same sentiments as I do.." Xie Yuan paused as she clenched her fists lightly, with a look of guilt and regret flashing in her eyes.

"But ultimately it is not easy wearing that title, especially in the past 20,000 years," she added with a defeated expression coloring her face.
