Daily life of a cultivation judge-Chapter 994: Seeds of resentment
Luckily for the Yu Clan, their patriarch’s disciple didn’t act on the fears they had. Even if he didn’t doesn’t mean they escaped the consequences of their actions, albeit it wasn’t from that domain expert neither was it from the Starlight Lake Sect but was instead from their fellow clan members.
Most of those involved got ostracized within the clan. They were treated as untouchables. Walking plagues that would curse those who associated with them.
Almost all of them were avoided by the rest of the clan who were afraid of being implicated by associating with them even though their patriarch’s disciple showed no signs of seeking reprisal for their actions.
The threat of a domain expert ran that deep. Therefore for most, especially those who held any sort of ambitions within the clan, that part of their path in life was indefinitely cut off. No one was spared from it not even the clan patriarch’s son.
If his father had spoken a few words for him, maybe things would have been better for him, however, his father had tacitly approved the treatment the rest of the clan were receiving for the treatment they gave his disciple, and his son was no exception.
Most were sent out of the clan under the guise of establishing more side branches. It was just a softer way of banishing them. As for the clan patriarch’s son, while he couldn’t be excommunicated like the rest, after all, he was still the clan patriarch’s son, and his only child at that, he was sent outside of the clan and was put in charge of one of the clan’s territory that housed a few of its key resources that just happened to be miles and miles away from their headquarters.
The post was respectable enough for the child of the clan leader to hold, but far enough that it showed the rest he was no longer in consideration of the greater plan of the clan.
Years went by and eventually, the dread that most within the Yu Clan felt about the Starlight Lake Sect, specifically their domain expert, that fear slowly went away. This was in part due to the close relationship of their clan patriarch and him, and how it persisted strongly throughout the years, slowly easing the tension.
That relationship between the duo eventually translated to the rest of their organizations as a sort of cooperative alliance was established between the duo where they cooperated on more than one occasion though the Yu family being the weaker party was the beneficiary of said relationship, more so the protective halo that came from said relationship.

They may not have had a domain expert, but being friends with one worked just the same.
Things proceeded smoothly between the two sides for quite a long time, with it being maintained even after the Yu clan patriarch died when facing his tribulation for the domain realm.
Even in his absence, his disciple still kept watch over the Yu family and supported them as much as he could.
The Yu clan survived for as long as it did because of him. The same reason the Starlight Lake Sect existed for so long was the same reason the Yu clan survived that long. They both had a domain expert looking after them.
When he was alive, both sides still maintained a close relationship, but after his passing, that was when things started to change. The Yu clan, under his considerable support, had grown almost to the same level of strength as the Starlight Lake Sect bar having a domain expert of their own and with the Starlight Lake Sect now not having a domain expert, it was almost like they were at the same playing field.
The Yu clan was no longer satisfied playing second fiddle to the Starlight Lake Sect. Despite the cooperative relationship between the two, the Yu clan always felt inferior, despite the Starlight Lake Sect not treating them that way.
It couldn’t be helped, after all the Starlight Lake Sect had a domain expert and they didn’t. No matter how close they were, there was always that overarching divide between the two sides, and if you added the history between their clan and that particular domain expert, that divide only grew further.
The Yu clan always had to watch their step, subconsciously morphing into the role of a subordinate of the Starlight Lake Sect even if they were not treated as such.
It could be understood then why some within the Yu Clan would grow slightly resentful of the Starlight Lake Sect. Before the appearance of their patriarch’s disciple, they were more or less on an even playing field with the Starlight Lake Sect, with the Yu clan even edging slightly over them since they repetitively produced late-stage palace realm experts, whereas, for the Starlight Lake Sect, it was sporadic throughout the years.
But all of a sudden, the two sides were no longer the same and worse off, the person who broke that balance was someone they had mistreated and looked down on. His becoming a domain expert was the biggest slap to their faces and it became an even bigger slap when instead of repaying them for what they had done to him in kind, he supported and nurtured them.
Some within the clan appreciated it, but to others, it planted a seed of inferiority and resentment similar to what the son of their clan patriarch, and that seed kept growing, being passed as an inheritance from generation to generation and finally with the passing of that disciple, it finally got its chance to manifest itself openly without fear.
The Yu clan slowly started pulling away, and their relationship with the Starlight Lake Sect turned from friendly cooperative, to familiar, to contractual cooperation till finally, they became strangers to one another.
The Starlight Lake Sect wasn’t all too bothered by it since they only maintained the relationship on account of their domain leader. If the Yu clan wanted to be estranged from one another, it was more than okay for them and thus for close to 100,000 years of cooperation, the two organizations acted separately.
If the story stopped there, it would have been okay, however, over the years, especially the past 20,000 years, the Starlight Lake Sect started showing a decline while the Yu clan seemed to be in quick ascendancy.
Even if the Yu clan had not yet produced a domain expert with the number of talented figures they had, it was clear as day that there was a clear gap between them and the Starlight Lake Sect, and with that gap, the seed of resentment they had been growing for all that time, reared its ugly sprout.
The Yu clan slowly by slowly started to assert its dominance against its former benefactor. They started asking for certain treasures back that they had given the Starlight Lake Sect back then in their ’subordination days’.
It wasn’t direct, of course. They used a play of words such as how it held deep sentimental value to the clan, how it should not have been handed back then, and how they were willing to compensate the Starlight Lake Sect in kind for it.
When they started this whole thing they did do it that way. Traded a few resources that the Starlight Lake Sect wanted and whose value was equal to the treasures they were asking for, and then they started underpaying, though not by much.
