Earlier when Gao Wei had tried to covertly analyze him he had not anticipated that Yang Qing’s soul would be abnormally powerful matched by his abnormally powerful body, all powered by his powerful foundations which other than the accumulations he had made also included a purple grade art.

Yang Qing would have truly shamed his peers and the devilish training he received from the fiend instructors if a third-stage palace realm cultivator like Gao Wei who had a weaker foundation and achievements than him could spy on him without his awareness.

It would take at least a seventh-stage palace realm cultivator who had the same sturdy foundations as Yang Qing, be it having acquired a purple grade or gold core in the core formation realm, cultivated a purple grade or top tier gold grade art which in terms of mastery was at least in the blooming stage, and or had reached the diamond body stage or peerless jade physique or had a natural physique of the same rank.

Only someone with such an achievement could potentially spy on him without his awareness, but even then with the means at his disposal, Yang Qing felt he would at least be able to sense a bit if they tried it. It was only when they reached the latter stages of the palace realm with said foundations, maybe from the ninth stage and above did he believe he would be helpless to discover it.

But he believed he would be truly and completely blind if the spying was done by a quasi-domain expert, and for them, it didn’t even matter whether their foundations were similar to Yang Qing.

By virtue of them being a quasi-domain expert and Yang Qing being a second-stage palace realm expert, it was a guarantee Yang Qing would be incapable of defending or even realizing what said expert was doing because of the nature of power both parties had access to.

It didn’t matter whether said quasi-domain expert had a blue core in his formative period in the core formation realm, cultivated a blue-grade art, or had not achieved a diamond body or the peerless jade physique, being quasi-domain expert leveled out all those disadvantages and put him miles ahead of Yang Qing.

The only reasonable way Yang Qing would be aware if such a figure was spying on him was if he had an ascendant-grade treasure on him that would detect or block the intrusion, or if he was a seventh-stage palace realm expert. Yang Qing had enough confidence that at that stage he would be able to sense the intrusive efforts of a quasi-domain expert trying to spy on him.

The reason for his confidence, other than the monumental transformation he was experiencing now as a second-stage palace realm expert and the effects and mysteries his physique was revealing and the impact it had on his overall abilities, the other reason he was confident he would be able to detect a quasi domain expert spying on him when he was at the seventh stage of the palace realm was what the Instructors had informed all of them about the palace realm.

While each increase in stage reflected a leap in abilities and strength in the palace realm, which was more defined than in the lower stages, at the same minor stages one could still bridge the gap provided their foundations were deep. Like in Yang Qing’s case, he managed to hold his own against the former emperor of the Red Maple Empire despite the latter being at the third stage while Yang Qing was at the first.

The difference in foundation and ability made it easy for Yang Qing to bridge the gap, however, there was a particular threshold in the palace realm where closing that gap proved difficult and that was the seventh stage.

There was a huge gulf in abilities between a sixth-stage palace realm expert and one who was at the seventh stage, despite both being in the same middle stage and though the instructors didn’t say what gave rise to that difference, they only said you truly knew if you had the makings of someone who can reach the domain realm if you reached the seventh stage.

And for those who had a purple core in their cultivation realm, would see its true value when they were at the peak of the seventh stage and that advantage would follow them into the domain realm.

Yang Qing didn’t know what that something was but he was looking forward to it, but for now there were other pressing matters to deal with, one of which was when Gao Wei was spying on him before he retaliated, he felt something deep within his palace realm stir. It was from the jade tree associated with his physique.

There was something in Gao Wei’s move that triggered it. This was the second time it had acted on its volition. The first time was at the Medical Valley when he inadvertently interacted with a fern that had been hidden in the body of an injured foundation establishment cultivator.

Said fern had been an insidious trap, a ticking time bomb that had been placed in the cultivator to be triggered at an opportune moment, only it was foiled when Yang Qing’s physique got triggered and sealed said fern.

The fern had been constructed from two main precious saint-grade materials and a bunch of ascendant-grade materials as secondary components. It was littered with countless arrays, chained together.

Just thinking about that monstrosity made Yang Qing shiver with fear at how close to death he had been that day, especially when the valley master said making said fern had taken the hands of four peak-grade professions, i.e. a purple-grade herbologist to blend the two saint grade materials, a peak gold grade formation master, a gold grade alchemist, and a peak gold grade weapon artificer to transform the fern into a weapon that could slaughter a soul formation expert.

The only reason he survived it was his physique acted up and possessed him and sealed the fern with a powerful sealing technique. He passed out immediately after and was unconscious for almost a week, and for the next month he had lost the abilities of his physique which stood to reason had something to do with that sealing technique that was capable of sealing a saint-grade killing weapon.

Pulling off a feat that a then puny first-stage palace realm expert shouldn’t have been able to do, brought its drawback, and that drawback was the hibernation of his physique and him being unconscious.

That whole ordeal ended up being a blessing in disguise. He was able to refine and improve his understanding of the various arts he cultivated, and in the process, he discovered how vital his physique had been in his present achievements thus proving his grandfather’s hypothesis true on there being more to the peerless jade physique. A fact that was continuously being proven true every single day from the advantages he had been experiencing every day as he combed through his cultivation.

Today was the second time his physique acted up and he couldn’t help but wonder if Gao Wei, particularly his art had ties with the group that created the fern, hence the reaction of his physique.

Gao Wei’s blood art was peculiar in that the person in question didn’t even know where he got it or when he got it, only that he knew it. Secondly, try as they may, the Order couldn’t decipher its origins, it was obscured by a powerful force, which they assumed had something to do with the art potentially being purple-grade art or at the very least a quasi-purple-grade art.

Every art received a blessing from the origin dao upon its successful inception, as each art served to demystify and or represent or provide insight into a component of the world. The degree of insight they provided would affect the amount of blessing and acknowledgment they received from the Origin dao.

The greater the blessing they received, the higher the grade of the art, and those blessings came with certain privileges and abilities and among those abilities was being shielded from karmic deduction by being cloaked by the Origin dao itself, and as far as it was known, such a feature could only be seen on peak gold grade tier arts bordering on quasi purple grade and actual purple grade arts.

Because of that effect, whatever guesses Yang Qing had of Gao Wei’s art and its potential links to the fern, would remain that, a guess. He wouldn’t be able to discover anything beyond that. The best he could do was maybe inform the Ren Shu and the Valley Master who had already interacted with the fern, and based on their extensive abilities maybe they might be able to pick up on something, considering he had already decided where Gao Wei’s assignment would be for the next few months.

..

After having made his point, Yang Qing withdrew his presence, adopting the leisurely carefree aura and demeanor he had before.

He looked around me before sitting on the floor as he took out a wine jar containing one of Yi Jie’s famous brews, a hundred herbs glacial flow wine. He took out five wine cups and started pouring into them but paused when he reached the fifth cup as his gaze fell on Luo Suyun.

"Can she drink?" Yang Qing wondered. She was 400 years old, but in terms of life, Yang Qing couldn’t help but think of her as a toddler.

"What?" Luo Suyun asked curiously.

Yang Qing switched his gaze between her and the wine cup before finally deciding to put away the wine cup, bringing out a tea cup and kettle as a replacement.

"Would you like to have snow plum blossom tea. It’s made from a plum that is similar to the sakura tree,"

"Really?" Luo Suyun asked, clearly excited as she instantly appeared next to Yang Qing, casually sitting next to him as Yang Qing poured tea which was misty white with a pink hue wafting with a refreshing aroma of spring and winter concurrently.

The instant Yang Qing finished pouring, she immediately grabbed the cup, eagerly taking a sip. Her eyes instantly widened in surprise at the first sip, and before she knew it she had taken another, with her eyes narrowing into a crescent shape.

Yang Qing relieved that she took to his choice, turned his attention back to the three gentlemen.

"We will be around one another for a long time to come if we live that long. We might as well share a drink," Yang Qing said welcoming the trio with his attention especially falling on Gao Wei as he made the inviting gesture.

Although scared, Gao Wei cupped his fists in gratitude as he took his position, with the other two doing the same. Luo Suyun was the only one sitting shoulder to shoulder with Yang Qing while Gao Wei, the middle-aged man with the dagger-like beard and the young man with the despondent look sat opposite him.

Once seated, Yang Qing handed them their cups, as he took his own, which he raised slightly.

"May the journey be smooth and clear," he said as the other three nodded before they all downed their wines.
