Daily life of a cultivation judge-Chapter 923: How pitiful
As another nostalgic sigh escaped his lips, Supreme Elder Jiang Huang continued,
"It took almost three years before I fully comprehended what I had joined and how much I had lucked out in not only embarking on the path of cultivation but also getting to join a prestigious sect such as the Azure Rain Sword Sect.
In three years I managed to rise from an ignorant outer sect disciple whose only thoughts were why does this water and food taste unbelievable to becoming an inner sect disciple whose eyes finally opened as I got exposed to the machinations of this world and how wonderous and vast it was.
I may have been bombarded with a lot of new found experiences and knowledge that subverted my view of the world, but one thing did remain constant through it all from the moment I walked through those gates, and that was, the Azure Rain Sword Sect whether it had mortals, immortals, whether it was paradise, or some abyss masquerading itself as paradise, that place was my home and anchor in life.."
As he talked about the Azure Rain Sword Sect, he wasn’t sure whether it was illusory or not, but he did feel the agonizing pain that had assaulted him day and night ebb away ever so slightly as he talked about the sect.
In the past 83 years, all he obsessed and thought about was how he had been robbed and the bitter unfairness of the world, and he took out all that frustration on the one thing he had thought he held dear. Though now that he thought about it clearly, he never really gave back to the sect that had given him so much.
All he did was take take take, and continuously justified it, and before he knew it, he had grown to expect it and do it.
What had he ever done for the sect he wondered.
When he joined, the sect was being supported by four palace realm experts, with one of them even being at the peak of the palace realm and when it came to its history, it was richer and deeper than most sects of similar ability.
The reason for that was, that the Azure Rain Sword Sect has been around for at least 100,000 years, almost as old as some rank two organizations, and in that period, they had once produced a domain expert.
A mine slave like him had no business joining such a prestigious sect but he did, and despite his history, the sect didn’t shun him or judge him for his past, but instead they nurtured him to the best of their abilities.
When he joined his sensibility had been overturned and all he had was endless suspicion. He was fed, clothed, taught how to read and write, he was well looked after in ways he could never imagine and it wasn’t because he had this astounding talent that necessitated such treatment.
He wasn’t being treated any different than the other outersect disciples, but to someone who had been raised on harshness, scorn, and mistreatment, even the bare minimum care shown to him made him feel like he was a prized emperor being looked after which left him suspicious and confused, always expecting something horrific to happen to him as payment for all the good things happening to him.
Slowly by slowly, when that tragic ending didn’t befall him as he expected it too, he adjusted and acclimated to the life at the sect. When warines and skepticism left his body, all he had as endless gratitude, but at some point in life, he was no longer appreciative. All the good that had befall him, all the care and support the sect continuously gave him, he took it as par for the course.
He was no longer awed by it and it wasn’t long before he forgot where the sect had pulled him from. You can grow accustomed to something, but still be thankful, especially when what you were currently accustomed to was something that had been nonexistent in your life. It was what kept someone grounded and thankful.
Jiang Huang had forgotten that at some point in life. Though a bit of his past had a part to play in why his attitude shifted so easily. Without meaning to, tears welled up in his eyes, and he was helpless to stop it, especially when images of his senior brothers, senior sisters, other sect members, his master and martial uncles and aunts, and other elders who had supported him on his journey, flashed in his mind.
"Even though I wasn’t the most gifted of the bunch, my talent was enough to stand out and receive favorable support from the sect. All the special care and support falling on a young boy who has never received something like that, you can imagine how easily swayed by it he would be.
I was surprised, then thankful, and after that came fear, fear that I would lose it. The world had taken so much from me, that I grew abnormally fearful whenever good things happened to me, and I would fiercely try to grab hold of whatever good thing came my way, and when it came to the attention and care I was being given, a few of the measures I came up with, one was to cultivate madly, and the other was to suppress those I saw who might steal that attention and praise from me.
These were my fellow disciples.." Jiang Huang said with a tinge of guilt in his voice.
"I bullied, suppressed, and tormented them, becoming no different than those mine lords who tormented me. Luckily I had kind seniors to help guide me before I pushed it too far. But even then, that fear of being stolen from still stayed with me and I found a better solution to it, and that was to cultivate madly and grow my strength to the point I wouldn’t be easily stolen from.
Luckily for me, I was in the right place to do just that. A sect with a deep foundation and resources, and thanks to my assiduous efforts, I managed to catch the eye of one of the four palace realm cultivators of the sect who took me in as his disciple.
But as with many things in this world of ours, things never quite go as planned or expected. Our sect master was about to face his tribulation for breaking through to the domain realm, but he was not confident of surviving it.
To increase his odds, he decided to venture into the Millionsfold Treasure Ocean in search of a treasure that would help him survive the tribulation. He went with two palace realm experts from the sect, of which my master was one, and left the vice sect master behind to hold the forte.
They never made it back and to date, we still do not know their fates.." Jiang Huang said with a somber sigh.
"We waited and waited, and they never came back, and it wasn’t long before our neighbors, ’friends’ and enemies alike learned that our sect master and two other palace realm experts from the sect were missing, assumed to be dead, considering where they went and close to 200 years passed without hearing or seeing any sign of them.
One could imagine how those around us reacted to such news.." Jiang Huang said sardonically.
"With only just a single palace realm expert holding the base, all the wolves around us smelled blood. A few probes started, then a few skirmishes here and there, before all the pretentious masks were torn off, and we were attacked in honest.
Luckily the sect’s foundations were not something our attackers could fathom, we managed to keep them at bay for a few years before the vice sect master decided to take a gamble. She sacrificed her life and used one of the few domain-level talismans we had, lured all our enemies into one place, and destroyed them all, herself included.
Her move severely damaged all our enemies, and we could finally breathe, but the cost of it was our last remaining palace realm expert.
All I could think of at the time was how I had been stolen from. Not how the sect was doing, or how to plan for its future, but how I, Jiang Huang was being robbed..." Jiang Huang said as he shook his head, with a sad smile plastered on his face.
"With that fear and desperation spurring me on, I cultivated like a lunatic, and before I knew it, I was one of the two quasi-palace realm experts in the sect, making me one of the most powerful figures there.
I can remember feeling proud, thinking to myself, that lowly slave miner had grown into a bonafide quasi-palace ream expert and the supreme elder of a sect that had once produced a domain expert.
How pitiable I was.." Jiang Huang shook his head once more with a downcast look, a cloud of tears still in his eyes.
"During that whole time, not once have I ever done anything for the sect. All of it was just me .. me.. me, as I took and took, all that I could from the sect. Whenever I was asked to take a disciple my response was always, not now, wait until I get stronger, when I was asked to share my insights and have discussions with my fellow elders at the time, my response was still the same, I didn’t have time.
When I was asked to act as an escort for a few disciples as they went exploring to help grow their strength and experience, I didn’t have time, but when it came to delving into some dangerous ruin, or bidding on some material suitable for MY growth I had all the time in the world.
All this while I kept telling myself, when I reach the palace realm, that in its way would serve as payment enough for the sect. I had twisted my self-ambitions to sound like a righteous cause when deep down I knew I was doing it all for myself.
The sect at some point had seized being the home it was for me but had instead turned into a resource ground, no different from the mines I excavated.
I do deserve what happened to me.." Jiang Huang wistfully said as he raised his head slightly with a forlorn look on his face.

"Even when my junior brother finally broke through to the palace realm and the sect finally ushered a palace realm expert, after the loss we had suffered, all I could think to myself was why it wasn’t me.
Instead of celebrating with them, all I kept thinking was how it should have been me. It should have been that broke through to the palace realm and be the one to part the cloud of doom that had long encompassed the sect for quite some time.
I couldn’t even say congratulations to him, all I gave him was abuse, and even taking out a bit of that frustration on some of the elders who tried to talk some sense to me and comfort me.
All I had was anger and the ugliness of envy. How pitiful am I? With such a mentality, would I have even made it to the palace realm if my soul wasn’t injured?" Jiang Huang weakly said as he looked at his scrawny hands which were now trembling.
