The light produced from the shard had an otherworldly force to it. It was ethereal yet tangible, compact yet loose, grand yet minuscule, transcendent yet simple. It alternated between two dualities.

Yao De’s heart stirred as he thought the light flying toward him was an attack from Yang Qing, despite not detecting any threat coming from it.

He was well on his way to circulating his cultivation base in preparation for his defense against the light charging at him only to find his body was rooted to the spot. It felt like some invisible hand containing heavenly might had held him in place, rendering him immobile, and thus could only watch helplessly as the light fell and dissolved into his body.

The excruciating pain he expected to befall him didn’t come. All that was there was a sense of restoration as a warm light traveled throughout his body. A second later, Yao De felt a bit of hollowness disappear. For a while now he always felt like his body was missing something but he could never quite put his finger on what exactly was missing.

At some point because of that persistent feeling, he once thought he had been cursed, or his soul had been affected in some way. A palace realm expert’s sensation of their body was not something to be dismissed. If he felt something was off about his body, then there was something off about his body.

His mind thus immediately jumped to curses. Curses were one of the few forms of attacks that he knew presented themselves in the symptoms he was experiencing, where he knew something was off about him, but he couldn’t quite place his finger on what exactly.

The moment that suspicion appeared, he used various treasures that he had on him that were great at detecting and even neutralizing curses, but none of them showed any response.

When that didn’t work, he visited various organizations known for their skills in handling curses, but still, none of them could find anything odd with his body. This made him only worry more. The fact that nothing was being detected, in his mind meant that the curse was extremely insidious.

It was at the peak of that worry when he had nowhere to turn, his desperation at an all-time high, that he entertained the notion of asking for help from either some of the high-ranking executives or if he was extremely lucky, the founders of the pavilion themselves. After all, he had already cultivated a good friendship with Lin Duye, and he could leverage that relationship to get assistance from one of the founders. Lin Duye was not only favored by his father, but by the remaining two founders too, who treated him no different than their son, not having children of their own.

But the instant he developed that thought, a deep dread instantly developed within him. Its intensity matched the same reaction that someone would get when they were facing a life-threatening situation. A loud voice within him yelled warning him against approaching the founders or the executives. If he did, then something bad would happen to him.

Despite not knowing where it came from, Yao De heeded the warning and kept whatever strangeness he was feeling to himself. But to ease his mind, he ended up spending almost half of his entire accumulated wealth and used the services of the White Rose Pavilion to check if there was really something wrong with him.

He would have preferred to use the Medical Saint Garden instead of the White Rose Pavilion due to the former’s specialty in such matters, they were moderately cheaper, and there would be no conflict or risk.

If it wasn’t out of desperation and the huge wait list the Medical Saint Garden had, Yao De would have rather not gone to the White Rose Pavilion, as going there was a huge risk on his part.

White Rose Pavilion and the Golden Bamboo Pavilion were both well-renowned merchant organizations with the White Rose Pavilion having an edge over the latter due to its long history and the fact that it was also one of the oldest rank one organization around.

Still even though there was a difference in rank, and likewise power, the Golden Bamboo Pavilion was still reputable and influential and thus it would surely raise some eyebrows if one of their employees went to one of their competitors for help. One would wonder why he didn’t go to Golden Bamboo Pavilion instead in the first place and a merchant worth their salt would know to exploit such a scenario, and exploit they did.

Yao De ended up paying for their discretion along with being checked for any irregularities. The only reprieve from the whole despite losing half his wealth was that the check was thorough and the results alleviated any worries he might have had about being cursed.

The test ended up revealing that the cause of what he was feeling was some force lurking deep within his soul. They couldn’t dig deep into its nature as it required the services of a domain expert skilled with souls, which was way out of what Yao De could afford, but the test did show that the power was otherwise benign, and based on the form it took, could not have been there without consent.

That information though didn’t reveal much ended up connecting a few dots for Yao De, along with triggering an intuitive feeling. He somehow knew in 300 years the feeling he felt would disappear. Though he didn’t know how or why. but deep down he knew in 300 years that sensation would go there.

The information also shed light on why he had dread in his heart when he thought of seeking assistance from one of the three founders. Instinctively, whatever he did, or did not do, and the effects affecting him, he did not want them to know.

Though he did not know what it was, he knew himself well. There were only a few things that would make him that apprehensive of seeing the founders or the high-ranking executives and that light that was swimming around his body confirmed what he had suspected all along as whatever had been missing was refilled.

As the light subsided, he couldn’t help but cast a guilty worried look at Lin Guiren.

"Why did you do it?" calmly asked Lin Guiren.
