Daily Evolution from Mastering Tai Chi-Chapter 246 - 219: Challengers from Around the World
Thanks to Li Weimin arranging a local guide for them in advance. Wang Ye and others hardly had to worry, meeting the Mexican guide holding a sign at the airport, and just needed to follow this guide. The guide would handle the relevant procedures for them and take them by car to their accommodation.
Upon leaving the airport, Wang Ye caught a whiff of Mexico's distinctive scent.
The air was filled with a faint smell of gunpowder and the scent of tortillas.
You could see classic Western architecture almost everywhere here, such as churches, squares, and cafes, exuding an aura of classical history. Aside from these dazzling urban buildings, the most striking feature was the vast and desolate canyons and deserts in the wilderness, where scattered mining caves and a variety of wildlife thriving in the jungles could be seen.
The United Mexican States, referred to as Mexico, with a population exceeding 120 million, is the world's eleventh most populous country, the most populous Spanish-speaking country, and the second most populous in Latin America, with a land area close to two million square kilometers.
Wang Ye and others were about to head to the region where Swallow Cave is located, in the central northern part of Mexico, Achismeng Town in San Luis Potosi State.
That is a relatively underdeveloped town,
and underdevelopment means poor public security, rather chaotic.
Wang Ye and others did not stay at the airport for long but boarded a bus with the Mexican guide.
Shortly after leaving the urban area, Wang Ye and others were on a bus traveling on a vast and desolate highway. The winding dirt road stretched out endlessly in the desolate desert, like a long slender black snake lying on the arid yellow sand, with sparse shrubs and occasional cacti adding a touch of green to the scene.
Besides Wang Ye and his companions, there were some tourists on the bus.
Including Wang Ye, Ah Gui, and a Mexican guide, they only occupied two and a half rows of seats, totaling six people. The remaining seats were sparsely occupied by tourists of different races from various places.
Sitting beside Wang Ye, Ah Gui seemed a bit hungry due to not eating for a long journey. He took down his backpack and, after unzipping it, took out a few Snickers bars and two bottles of mineral water from the outermost pocket, handing Wang Ye three Snickers bars and a bottle of mineral water.
Wang Ye took the food and thanked him. But he only accepted the food without opening the packaging right away.
Even though the bus interior couldn't be directly exposed to sunlight, just a trace of ultraviolet light filtering in through the glass windows was enough for him to recover his energy.
So food to him was still optional.
Only occasionally would he feel like eating something when his mouth felt bland.
Moreover, as Wang Ye absorbed ultraviolet light more frequently, he found his appetite gradually decreasing, and now it had almost vanished.
Previously, Wang Ye suffered from obesity, diabetes, and hypertension because he continued eating junk food even when full and couldn't suppress the urge to binge eat anytime and anywhere. This behavior was fundamentally relying on dopamine secreted during eating to suppress inner anxiety and irritation.
It's akin to addiction to smoking or sex.
So Wang Ye thought that after gaining the skill to absorb ultraviolet light to supplement his energy,
he should still retain the ability to derive pleasure from eating.
However, as Wang Ye spent more time absorbing ultraviolet light, he discovered the pleasure he got from eating diminished. Eating hotpot, barbecue, fried chicken, or other junk food wasn't as enjoyable as standing under the sun absorbing ultraviolet rays for two minutes.
Only occasionally when his mouth felt a little bland would he think of eating. His stomach also began to degenerate under this habit of long-term non-eating, gradually shrinking in size, making more room for the development of other internal organs.
So recently, Wang Ye's frequency of eating became less and less, from initially eating one meal a day to gradually once every three or four days. At the same time, his excretion frequency also gradually decreased, becoming generally the same as his eating frequency.
Continuing this trend, Wang Ye feared he would soon become a being that doesn't need to eat, excrete, or sweat, akin to a Divine Being.
Although he could achieve this now, he occasionally still wanted to eat something.
Wang Ye leaned against the window, continuing to watch the scenery for a while.
After ten minutes passed, 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶
he belatedly tore open the packaging of the Snickers in his hand.
He stuffed a piece of Snickers into his mouth and began to chew it slowly.
"The sweetness has faded..."
Wang Ye couldn't help but frown.
He wondered if his taste had deteriorated or if there was something wrong with the Snickers, as it seemed noticeably less sweet than before. The once overwhelming sweetness of peanut flavor now felt to him like a bland mass of wall paste.
Typically, when humans crave food, it's because their body lacks a certain element; for example, when lacking protein, they want to eat meat; when lacking glycogen, they want to eat rice; when lacking vitamins, they want to eat fruits and vegetables. When the body is extremely malnourished, even boiled food without any seasoning would taste like a delicacy.
Conversely, when the body isn't particularly lacking in nutrients, one wouldn't have a significant craving for anything. Even world-class culinary delights cooked by a master chef would be hard to appreciate as delicious.
