Daddy, You Got The Wrong Mommy-Chapter 444: Leo Warren
Her mind was filled with his silhouette.
Elena Soo felt a sting in her nose and looked up to the sky, trying to stop her tears from falling.
Why think of him?
He left without a word, didn’t leave a single message. He might have already married and had children somewhere.
The most unreliable creatures in the world are men.
Elena shook her head, trying to clear all her thoughts away.
Inadvertently, she caught a glimpse of a figure standing on the street corner not far away.
In the pitch-black night, the man stood tall, his handsome face shadowed, flickering between light and darkness.
His features were so familiar that her heart couldn’t help but tremble.
Is it him!
Is it the man who once promised to marry her when she grew up?
Elena jumped up and rushed towards the street corner.
Leo Warren, is it you!
The man stood quietly, his gaze lingering on the buildings standing in the night, as if lost in thought, as if reminiscing.
A black car stopped beside him, and he withdrew his gaze to look at the vehicle.
Elena opened her mouth, wanting to call his name.
But her foot suddenly hit something, causing her to unexpectedly fall to the ground.
When she looked up again, the street corner was empty, the man had disappeared.
Where did he go?
Where did he go!
"Leo Warren, Leo Warren!"
Elena couldn’t control her tears anymore. She got up and ran towards the street corner, calling out loudly as she ran.
However, there was only endless cold wind responding to her.
Elena stood dazed, letting the tears roll down her face. After a long while, she squatted down and hugged her arms tightly.
What is she thinking?
She must have seen wrong.
How could someone disappear for ten years suddenly appear?
Leo Warren, he was her neighbor.
His parents died early, and he was raised by his grandfather.
He was three years older than her.
They grew up together, went to school together every day, childhood sweethearts, innocent companions.
She thought he would be part of her life.
But it turns out, life is unpredictable, and people’s hearts are hard to gauge.
Ten years ago, Leo’s only relative passed away, and he disappeared without a trace.
Just disappeared without a word, didn’t even leave half a message.
Later, she heard he did bad things and got taken in by the authorities.
But despite her efforts, she couldn’t see him.
She didn’t believe he would do bad things.
Though he was indeed rebellious in his youth, she knew his nature was kind since they grew up together.
How could a boy who fed stray cats do bad things?
But why did he suddenly leave?
Why did he leave without a word?
Did he forget his promise to her?
He promised he would wait for her to grow up!
She grew up, but he disappeared!
"Leo Warren, you bastard!"
Elena shouted into the air.
Startling a stray cat on the roadside into calling out.
The cold wind whistled, blowing against her tear-stained face, painfully stinging.
Elena squatted dazedly, not knowing what she was thinking.
At this moment, her phone rang.
Elena sniffled, slowly took out her phone, and glanced at it.
It was Evan Miles calling.
Elena gripped her phone tightly, took a deep breath, answered the call, and tried to make her voice sound as normal as possible.
"Hello?"
"Elena, where are you?"
"I’m out taking a walk."
"Do you want me to come pick you up?"
"No need, I’ll be back soon."
"Alright, I’ll wait for you at home."
Listening to Evan’s gentle voice, Elena sighed softly and hung up the phone.
She was not someone given to melancholy.
After venting tonight, she still had to face reality.
In reality, Evan Miles was a good person.
She did not lose out by marrying him.
Elena slowly stood up, intending to hail a cab to go back.
As she hailed the taxi and got in, just as she was about to provide her home address, her phone rang again.
Elena glanced at it; it was her brother Ryan Sutton calling.
After reporting her address to the driver, she took Ryan’s call.
"Ryan."
"Sis, can you come to Royal Court Suites right now?" Ryan asked.
Elena frowned, "What’s wrong?"
"I... I’m in a bit of trouble."
Ryan’s voice carried a hint of frustration and tremor.
"What exactly happened?"
"Sis, I’m in room 308."
Ryan finished speaking and hung up the phone.
Elena called out twice, then called back, but the phone couldn’t be connected.
Feeling a vague sense of unease, Elena hurriedly asked the driver to go to the Royal Court Suites.
With the car speeding all the way, they quickly reached the suites.
Elena paid the fare and entered the suites, finding the room.
She knocked on the door, and someone came to open it.
The room was dimly lit, and smoke wreathed around making it hard to see the figures inside.
Elena closed her eyes, letting her vision adjust to the darkness.
Ryan’s voice rang out.
"Sis."
Elena quickly opened her eyes to see the lights fully on, Ryan standing guilt-ridden in front of the sofa, looking at her.
A number of people stood in the room, all appearing like tall bodyguards.
And seated on the sofa was a middle-aged man.
With a buzz cut, and eyes gleaming with cold menace.
He held a cigarette, leisurely smoking it.
Flanking him were two scantily clad women, attending to him with coquettish care.
The sight was unmistakably that of tough company, not easy to deal with.
Elena’s heart skipped, and she quickly walked to Ryan.
"Ryan, what exactly happened?"
"Sis..."
Ryan moved his lips, but guilt kept him from speaking.
"Speak up!"
Elena was extremely anxious, and then a man on one side spoke.
"You must be Ryan’s sister? Ryan owes our Lord Donovan money, you better pay it back for him."
Upon hearing this, Elena was shocked and glanced at the man on the sofa.
Lord Donovan, presumably the man on the sofa.
How did her brother end up owing them money?
"Ryan, how did you end up owing them money? How much is the debt?"
Ryan looked at Elena and finally confessed, "Sis, I don’t owe them money; they cheated me and swindled my million!"
What!
Cheating!
Could he have gone gambling!
Elena’s heart jumped, she gripped Ryan’s hand, "Did you gamble away the million I gave you to buy a house?"
Upon hearing this, Ryan hung his head in guilt.
"Sis, I wanted to repay you quickly, so I listened to a friend’s suggestion to gamble, but I didn’t expect..."
"You..."
Elena understood; her silly brother had definitely walked into someone’s trap.
She glared at Ryan in exasperation, took a deep breath, and looked at the man on the sofa.
"Lord Donovan, am I correct? How much does my brother owe you?" 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺
The man on the sofa sized up Elena, blew out a smoke ring, "Not much, just a million."
"You’re lying! You set me up with cheating! Return my million! Otherwise, I’ll call the police!"
Ryan exclaimed with agitation.
He had bet big at the last play.
Thought he would win a million.
But unexpectedly, these people cheated!
Lord Donovan cast a cool glance at him, and suddenly two bodyguards grabbed him, kicking at his knees, forcing him to kneel down on the ground.
