Daddy, You Got The Wrong Mommy-Chapter 403: He Is Like a Ray of Light
Benjamin Harper got into the car and was still dialing Serena Wells’s phone number.
The call finally went through, and as he was starting the car, Benjamin was delighted and quickly asked, "Annie, are you okay?"
"Brother Ben, I’m fine, ah!"
Serena suddenly screamed, followed by a burst of static noise.
"What happened? Annie!"
Benjamin was anxious and floored the gas pedal.
On the other end of the call, Serena looked at the dead rat placed inside the box that had fallen to the ground, her face turning pale with fright.
Someone had just knocked on the door, claiming they had a package for her.
She was puzzled about who could have sent it, but never expected to find a dead rat inside when she opened it.
Who was messing with her?
It must be Ru Townsend and Evan Ford’s fans, right?
Serena’s tears started rolling down her cheeks.
She crouched down, reached out, and grabbed her phone, staying far away from the dead rat.
The screen of her phone was shattered, and it couldn’t turn on at all.
Brother Ben had just been on the line with her.
She needed to call him back and let him know not to worry about her.
Serena sniffled, stood up, wiped away her tears, and prepared to go out.
Just then, there was a rustling at the door, and it seemed like someone was outside.
Serena was startled, pressing her ear against the door to listen to the sounds outside.
She heard a swooshing sound, as if someone was pouring water outside.
Immediately after, a man’s voice rang out.
"Do you, a murderer’s woman, dare to covet something that doesn’t belong to you? Serena Wells, stay in the house for a few days and clear your head."
The sound of footsteps outside grew fainter until it was completely silent.
Serena’s face turned pale, her nerves taut as ever.
When she was sure there was no one outside, she hesitated to pull the door.
However, the door didn’t budge.
What’s wrong?
Serena was shocked and applied more force to the handle.
Still, the door didn’t move.
The people outside had locked her inside!
No wonder they said she needed a few days inside to clear her mind!
Despicable!
Serena, in a panic, kept pounding on the door.
"Open the door, is anyone out there?"
Her phone was broken, unable to call for external help. Was she really going to stay locked alone in the house for days?
Serena felt like crying but had no tears, leaning against the door and slowly sliding down to the floor.
Not far away, the box still contained that dead rat.
Its dark eyes stared unwaveringly in her direction, making her skin crawl.
Serena’s face grew paler. She covered her head and let out a cry, then dashed into the bedroom and slammed the door shut.
...
Benjamin Harper hurriedly rushed to the apartment complex where Serena lived.
He got out of the car, prepared himself, and swiftly walked towards the elevator.
A few people brushed past him.
One of them was making a phone call.
"Relax, everything you asked for is done. Sending dead rats, splashing paint, blocking the door, Serena Wells must be scared out of her wits by now."
Serena Wells?
Did he just say the name Serena Wells?
Benjamin stopped in his tracks and abruptly turned to look at the departing group.
They looked like ruffians, clearly up to no good.
What did they do to Serena Wells?
Sending rats?
Throwing paint?
Blocking the door?
Is this something people would do?
Who instructed them to do this?
Benjamin, with a grim expression, considered chasing after them to get to the bottom of things.
But the group had already gotten into a car by the roadside.
After a moment of thought, Benjamin turned and quickly headed towards the elevator.
He should first check on Serena Wells.
Hopefully, she’s not as scared out of her wits as they said.
Arriving outside Serena’s home, Benjamin noticed the red paint on the door, along with the words ’murderer’s daughter’ etched into it, his face darkening.
The people earlier were truly despicable.
What did Serena Wells do wrong?
"Annie, are you there?"
Benjamin called out loudly for Serena Wells from outside.
But Serena had locked herself in the room, with earplugs on, sitting in the corner hugging herself.
Benjamin called her name for a long time without a response, instead drawing the dissatisfaction of the neighbor across the hall.
"Oh dear, it’s so annoying so early in the morning. Who are you to Serena Wells? If you keep making noise here, we’ll call the police."
An elderly couple, both around seventy, lived across the hall.
The elderly are generally more sensitive, and the commotion outside Serena’s door had greatly disturbed them.
"Sorry, I’m Annie’s friend. I was worried something might have happened to her, so I came to check in."
Benjamin greeted them.
"Did Annie offend anyone recently? Who was so wicked to splash paint on her door?"
The elderly woman looked at the red paint on the door in shock.
"It looks like her door is jammed. Who would play such a prank?"
The old man, having been a carpenter in his younger days, immediately noticed the problem with the door.
"What a sin, what trouble has the Miller Family’s mother and daughter gotten into? Honey, please help open the door. I saw Annie come back this morning, she should be home. We can’t let anything happen to her."
The elderly woman urged the old man.
The old man responded, going inside to fetch some tools.
Benjamin repeatedly thanked them, while continuing to call for Serena Wells.
At this moment, Serena was still crouching in the bedroom corner.
Once her emotions settled down, she slowly removed her earplugs.
Faintly, she thought she heard Benjamin Harper’s voice.
She stared blankly ahead, giving a self-deprecating smile.
See how useless she was?
So scared that she’s hallucinating!
Isn’t this just online harassment?
She needed to learn to be strong.
Her mother was still in the hospital; she had to rely on herself for the rest of her life.
Serena bit her lip, suppressing the bitterness in her nose, and slowly stood up, holding onto the wall.
There was a thudding sound, like something hitting the door.
Serena’s heart tightened, her nerves taut once more.
Could those people outside have returned?
This time, are they not just blocking the door but trying to break in to harm her?
Fear gripped Serena’s heart. She glanced around, spotting a crystal ornament on the cabinet, and quickly grabbed it, holding it to her chest.
If those people dared bully her, she’d definitely fight back.
Serena took a deep breath and gently opened the door.
Upon seeing a figure approaching the bedroom door, she screamed, raising the crystal ball high.
"Bastard, take this!"
Benjamin had just entered the house, looking for any signs of Serena.
Unexpectedly, Serena lunged at him with the crystal ball aimed at his head.
Fortunately, he reacted quickly, slightly tilting his head, preventing the crystal ball from hitting his head.
However, it did strike his shoulder.
"Annie, don’t be afraid, it’s me."
Benjamin winced, enduring the pain as he grabbed hold of Serena.
Hearing Benjamin’s voice, only then did Serena realize it was him who had entered.
Instantly, she buried her face in his chest, feeling wronged.
"Brother Ben, I’m so scared!"
In her moment of aimlessness and helplessness, he was like a beam of light, illuminating her heart.
