Chapter 236: Chapter 236: He Doesn’t Want Her to Be Hurt

Damon Hawke accompanied Evelyn Miles for another afternoon of shopping.

Listening to Evelyn’s rambling voice, she was recalling their past, but he was thinking about bits and pieces with Elara Don.

The day was almost over. Did she think about him?

Probably not as much as he thought about her, right?

After all, in her heart, right now, apart from the children, what she’s probably thinking about is her mother’s death.

He wondered if she was obediently waiting at home for him to return.

"Tom, Tom?"

Evelyn noticed she’d been talking for a while, but Damon seemed to be lost in thought, his face full of discontent.

Damon snapped back to reality, "What did you say?"

Turns out, she’d been reminiscing all alone, putting on a one-person play.

Evelyn forced a smile, "What were you just thinking? Were you reminiscing about back then, like me?"

Upon hearing this, Damon said, "No, I was thinking about Elly."

Looking back now, there didn’t seem to be much worth reminiscing about with Evelyn.

The two of them mostly just hung out with friends at bars.

No profound memories.

At the time, he thought Evelyn was a proper match, someone he could marry.

He didn’t have deep feelings for her.

That’s why, when she wanted to break up and study abroad, he felt more annoyed than anything else.

It was a bruise to his ego.

Not about love.

In contrast, with Elara, from the first meeting to all the little moments afterward, whenever he thought of them, he’d smile.

He loved seeing her smile at him.

Even when she was angry, he first thought about how to make her happy.

When she wanted him to stay away, he felt heartache and anger.

He thought, that’s how love should be!

Hearing Damon’s blunt words and seeing the unconcealed smile on his face, Evelyn’s own smile nearly faltered. 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺

He’s thinking about Elara!

With her, he’s still thinking about Elara?

What’s so special about that common girl!

"Tom, I’m hungry, let’s go have dinner!"

Evelyn’s mood wasn’t so elated anymore.

But she still wanted to continue the unfinished day with Damon.

She had worked hard to win this day; she wouldn’t waste it unhappily.

Letting him go back to meet Elara so soon.

"Okay."

Damon indifferently followed Evelyn into a high-end restaurant.

Led by the waiter, they arrived at a spot by the window.

Damon said, "I’m going to the restroom first."

"Okay."

Evelyn nodded, watching him leave, then thought for a moment and turned on her phone.

She needed to return a call to Cole Hawke.

Tell him his idea wasn’t good.

She helped Damon, but Damon was still indifferent to her.

When the phone connected, she asked, "Arthur, did you need something?"

Cole had just stepped out of the police station.

He opened the car door and got in, looking serious.

"Samantha, Elly was framed and is now detained at the police station. Was it your doing?"

He had inquired and knew there had been action at the station today, finding contraband in Elly’s bag.

The man she was with had even died.

The evidence was unfavorable for Elly.

But how could Elly be involved in illegal activities?

This was clearly a setup.

And the one behind it must be the Miles family!

Did the Miles family eliminate the troublesome Elly to help Evelyn get Damon?

"What? Elly is detained at the station? Is that true? I had no idea!"

Evelyn asked in shock.

"Do you really not know? Samantha, although I want Elly to break up with Damon, I don’t wish her to be harmed."

Cole’s eyes were deep, and he spoke.

"Arthur, I truly don’t know about this. How did Elly end up detained? What crime did she commit?"

Evelyn’s eyes shifted as she inquired.

Cole pursed his lips, "If you don’t know, forget it. I’ll hang up first."

Evelyn likely didn’t have such capability.

The one who planned this must be someone else from the Miles family.

Thinking of Hunter’s brothers, Cole squinted.

Was it Hunter, or was it Gabriel who acted?

On the other side.

Evelyn looked at the disconnected phone, a flash of excitement in her eyes.

Elly was caught?

Was it coincidence or mom’s arrangement?

No, she needed to call her mother to ask.

Thinking of this, Evelyn hurriedly dialed Mrs. Grant’s number.

"Mom, I heard Elly was arrested. What’s going on?"

"Samantha, don’t worry about it. I saw the news with you and Damon, you did well. Just keep being pure and kind, leave the rest to mom and uncle."

Mrs. Grant spoke from the other end.

Evelyn smiled joyfully, full of curiosity.

"Mom, you love me the most. I’m just curious, how did Elly get arrested?"

"I’ll explain once you return. Is Tom with you? Isn’t he by your side?"

Mrs. Grant asked, and Evelyn glanced at a nearby spot.

There, Damon was walking toward her.

"He just went to the restroom. Alright, I won’t talk to you longer, I’ll hang up now."

Evelyn hung up the phone.

Damon had just gone to smoke a cigarette to alleviate his inner irritability and boredom.

He sat down, still carrying a slight scent of smoke.

Seeing his cool face, Evelyn thought of Elly already being detained, feeling quite pleased.

"Tom, let’s eat, and after dinner, today’s date will be over."

She was eager to return and find out what had transpired.

The Hawke family was a noble one. If Elly was arrested, could they let Damon marry a convict?

Damon didn’t know what Evelyn was thinking.

He only knew he was about to be freed.

"Let’s eat."

Damon ordered and accompanied Evelyn for the meal, after which Evelyn returned his phone.

"Tom, you’re such a workaholic. Seeing you without a phone all day, were you especially bored?"

Evelyn said coquettishly.

Damon indifferently took the phone and turned it on.

As soon as it was on, messages and calls flooded in.

Damon knew this would happen, but said nothing.

After all, he was the company’s CEO, and there were always lots of matters to handle.

But when he saw the message from Craig Landers, his expression changed abruptly.

"Damon, something happened to Elly! Just call back already!"

Something happened to Elly!

Damon hurriedly dialed Craig Landers’s number.

"Wayne, what happened to Elly?"

"Damon, are you still in Crestfall? Come back quickly, Elly she..."
