Chapter 231: Chapter 231: Meeting Her Tomorrow

Elara Don returned home and received a call from an unknown caller.

She wasn’t in the habit of rejecting calls, so she answered.

"Who is this?"

"Miss Thorne, it’s Jack Clarke."

A man’s deep voice crackled over the line.

Elara Don was startled and immediately became alert.

"Jack Clarke, how did you get my number?"

"You’re a celebrity now; getting your number wasn’t too difficult,"

Jack Clarke replied in a grave voice.

Elara hurriedly asked, ignoring the implications: "Are you calling because you’ve thought it through? Do you want to tell me the truth about my mother’s death years ago?"

She had eavesdropped on Jack Clarke asking for money over the phone from someone behind the scenes, so why was he suddenly calling her?

"Yes, because of something you said, I understand now. I have a daughter too, and I can empathize," Jack Clarke said.

Elara furrowed her brow, a flicker of doubt crossing her eyes.

Did he really have a change of heart?

If he did, why would he still be asking for money from the mastermind?

But she didn’t want to pursue those questions now; if he could truly tell her the truth about that year, that would be enough.

"Well, since you’ve thought it through, please hurry up and tell me, who was it that wanted you to run my mother down?"

"Miss Thorne, this matter is complicated. Let’s meet and talk tomorrow."

Jack Clarke wanted to meet her?

Elara furrowed her brow, "Isn’t there something you can say over the phone?"

"Miss Thorne, I have evidence that I must hand over in person. But I’ll be honest with you, after meeting you tomorrow, I plan to leave this place. I’m meeting you out of guilt, but that doesn’t mean I’ll testify against those who instructed me to do it years ago. The opposing forces are substantial, and I fear for my life."

Jack Clarke slowly spoke.

Elara contemplated, combined with the information she had overheard; she got the picture.

Jack Clarke had probably already received the money from the mastermind, and before leaving, his conscience drove him to meet her.

Realizing this, Elara agreed cheerfully.

"Okay, we’ll meet tomorrow. Where is the meeting place?"

"We can meet at the Golden Grove in Westcroft. Remember to come alone; I don’t want to end up in jail again. If I find out you’ve contacted the authorities or brought anyone, I assure you, you’ll never uncover the truth."

Jack Clarke warned.

Elara furrowed her brow, considered it, and agreed.

"Also, I want money, prepare ten thousand in cash."

Jack Clarke was asking for money!

Was this man planning to benefit from both sides?

Elara secretly cursed Jack Clarke as despicable, but couldn’t show it.

"Okay, I agree."

Money was a small matter; uncovering her mother’s death truth was the priority, then she’d deal with him.

"Then it’s settled, see you tomorrow."

Jack Clarke finished and hung up.

Staring at the phone screen, Elara felt dazed.

Did Jack Clarke agree so easily to reveal the truth from years ago?

How did this feel too smooth?

So smooth it felt unbelievable.

On the other end, Jack Clarke stood by the window, held the eavesdropping device, and smirked coldly.

Playing mind games with him?

Elara Don was still too naive.

The mastermind wanted him to lure Elara Don out; presumably, something would be done to her.

He looked forward to it.

After all, being targeted by Elara Don meant trouble for him in the future.

So he decided to play along, falsely claiming he obtained the money and was ready to run, meeting her before escaping as a conscience act, handing over the evidence, and requesting more money.

Thinking of taking payments from both sides, Jack Clarke’s eyes gleamed with satisfaction.

Currently alone, the mastermind had promised him five million tomorrow. Once received, he wouldn’t have to worry anymore.

He could directly leave the city and start afresh.

Apartment.

Elara Don hadn’t realized she had fallen into a trap.

She sat on the sofa, pondering what she should do tomorrow?

Should she really go meet Jack Clarke alone?

What if he wasn’t actually looking to hand over evidence, but had another hidden agenda?

Damon Hawke had cautioned her, urging her not to act rashly.

Should she share the current situation with him?

The knocking at the door interrupted her thoughts.

She got up and approached the door, seeing Leia Quinn and Craig Landers standing outside through the peephole.

"Kiki, Wayne."

Seeing the two of them, Elara opened the door.

"Elly, are you home alone? Have you eaten yet?"

Leia Quinn carried food and switched to slippers.

"Not yet."

Elara got Craig Landers a pair of slippers as well.

"Elly, as expected, you haven’t eaten. Look, your man specifically called me to have Cindy look after you."

Craig Landers waved the food, his face full of teasing.

Her man?

Damon Hawke?

Elara blushed slightly, "What do you mean by my man? I’m still single, okay?"

"Indeed, but Elly, given how much Damon cares about you, and considering you two have already, uh, crossed that line, why not give him a chance?"

Craig Landers laid out the food on the dining table, speaking with amusement.

Crossing the line!

Spoken so bluntly.

Elara felt slightly hot in the face, glancing at Leia Quinn who was taking bowls out of the kitchen.

"Wayne, don’t just talk about me. When are you going to marry Kiki after crossing the line yourselves?"

Leia Quinn didn’t expect Elara to suddenly shift the topic to herself.

Immediately, she gave Elara a flirtatious glare.

She and Craig Landers had just started their relationship.

Definitely not keen to become a married woman so soon.

"Well, isn’t it just a matter of Kiki deciding? If she wants to marry, I can do it tomorrow."

Craig Landers said, then approached Leia Quinn and held her hand.

"Kiki, do you want to marry me?"

The man had a warm smile, exuding gentle affection.

Leia Quinn quickly withdrew her hand, awkwardly smoothing her hair by her ear.

"Elly isn’t married yet! I’ll wait till after she marries before considering it."

Upon hearing this, Craig Landers looked at Elara Don with an innocent expression, shrugging.

"Elly, did you hear? My future happiness depends on you now, when are you marrying Damon?"

Elara chuckled at Leia Quinn, "Kiki, why would you wait for me to marry before considering your own matters? What if I never marry?"

"Then, of course, I’ll stay with you. Don’t forget, we’re like sisters."

"Pff! Kiki, look at Wayne’s expression, he looks like he wants to sentence me to death."

"He wouldn’t dare!"

"..."

The three of them bantered for a while, then settled at the dining table for a meal.

Elara Don thought about meeting Jack Clarke tomorrow, sneaking glances at Craig Landers, hesitating to speak.

She thought, she might indeed need some help tomorrow.

"Elly, stop staring at me like that, it’s a little creepy."

Craig Landers joked when he noticed Elara Don continuously looking at him.
