Chapter 274

Murmu had been grinning from ear to ear since morning. In the yard, Wei Zhongqi was brewing jukyeopcheong when he let out a sigh, visibly annoyed by Murmu hovering around him.

“Did something good happen?” he asked Murmu finally.

“Of course.”

“Tell me.”

“I got my hands on two pages of the Book of Transfer.”

“So, you’re planning to visit Earth,” Wei Zhongqi stated.

“Yep. Want to come?” Murmu asked.

Murmu’s offer was generous, but Wei Zhongqi shook his head. Of course, he would love to go and see the Heavenly Demon, but he wanted to finish brewing jukyeopcheong first. It was Do-Jun’s favorite drink, and he always looked delighted whenever Wei Zhongqi brought it to him.

“I’ll visit on my own later,” Wei Zhongqi said.

“Got it. Want me to pass along your greetings to the King?”

“I’d appreciate that.”

Murmu immediately tore one of the pages, and a massive dimensional gate formed in the yard. Without hesitation, he stepped through.

***

The Transcendents primarily resided in the Deep Realm, but they would occasionally use the Book of Transfer to cross over to Earth.

Murmu, also known as the “Three Moons,” was the second strongest among the Transcendents. As he arrived on Earth, his heart pounded like that of an excited child on a school trip.

He first went to greet Do-Jun. “I greet you, King of Earth.”

“It’s been a while,” Do-Jun said.

At first, being called the “King” had felt strange, but Do-Jun had gotten used to it by now.

“Wei Zhongqi asked me to inform you that he’ll be visiting separately soon.”

“Got it.”

With his report to the King complete, all that remained was to enjoy his time on Earth. Luckily, Do-Jun had given him 50,000 won to spend while he was here, and Murmu was determined to make the most of it.

“Where should I start?” he muttered, unable to stop a grin from spreading across his face.

Life in the Deep Realm had been dull, so, naturally, there were many things he wanted to do once he arrived on Earth, and he had written them all in a notebook. He pulled it out of his pocket and flipped to the first page. At the top of the list was “eat fried chicken.”

Murmu had already scouted out the best fried chicken place in the area, well known as a not-so-hidden gem. As he walked down the street, he suddenly stopped.

Huh, isn’t that...?

Near the entrance of the Changshin Villa complex, he spotted two toddlers wearing yellow daycare uniforms. It was Byeol and her friend, So-Mi.

“Bye, So-Mi!”

“See you tomorrow, Byeol!”

The two had just finished their day at the daycare. Byeol kept waving until So-Mi fully disappeared into the Changshin complex. Only then did she turn and start waddling forward again.

Then, her eyes met Murmu’s. Clutching the straps of her backpack, Byeol froze when she saw him. She blinked, then broke into a wide smile and ran toward him.

“Mistah!”

“Oh, it’s you, Byeol!”

“Mm!”

“Where are you coming from?” Murmu asked her.

“Fwom daycawe. You, Mistah?”

“I just arrived on Earth.”

“Okie.”

Byeol had seen Murmu before in the Deep Realm. Back then, he had carried her on his back and bounced in place, making her laugh. Perhaps because of that, Murmu had become a “good Mister” in her mind.

“But where are you going?” she asked him.

“Haha. I’m going to eat fried chicken. I’ve been looking forward to it since before I even got here.”

At the mention of chicken, Byeol swallowed hard. She had eaten three bowls of rice at lunch, along with miso soup and braised tofu at daycare. But after running around with her friends, her stomach had been empty for a while.

“Chicken is yummy,” she said.

“Yes, yes, it really is.”

“But... it’s too much to eat alone,” Byeol muttered, trying to hint at something as she looked up at Murmu, eyes brimming with expectation.

“Haha, but this great Murmu can finish one all by myself.” Murmu laughed heartily.

He had learned that the proper way to eat chicken was “one whole chicken per person.” In fact, he had successfully devoured an entire chicken by himself before.

Byeol’s face fell in disappointment, and her head hung low.

Murmu tilted his head. Had he done something wrong?

“But... it is a lot...” Byeol muttered.

Suddenly, realization struck Murmu like a bolt of lightning. How had he not picked up such an obvious hint?!

He quickly attempted to fix his mistake. “Byeol, want to go eat chicken with me?”

“Weally?” Byeol hesitantly lifted her head.

“Of course! But remember, one chicken per person!”

“Mm!”

***

Byeol and Murmu stopped in front of a fried chicken place in the city. The shop, called “Gaebyeok Chicken,” wasn't part of a franchise, yet for five straight years, it remained popular for its outstanding taste and low prices.

As Murmu and Byeol stepped through the automatic doors, a series of unexpected explosions rang out.

Bang! Pop! Pop-pop!

Five employees at the entrance set off party poppers, and Murmu’s instincts kicked in. Thinking humans had activated some kind of skill, he quickly pulled Byeol behind him. Just as he was about to gather his magical energy and slaughter these audacious humans who had dared to harm the King of Earth’s family, he was caught off guard by the employees’ excited exclamation.

“Congratulations!”

“Huh?”

“You are our ten-thousandth customer this year!”

Murmu blinked as the employee kept a bright smile and said, “As a special event, we’re awarding our ten-thousandth customer a 300,000 won fried chicken gift card! And that lucky customer is you!”

Murmu processed the words, then his jaw dropped. A gift card worth 300,000 won—that was enough for an incredible amount of fried chicken!

“R-really?” he asked in shock.

“Yes!”

Overjoyed, Murmu clenched his fist. He immediately ordered three chickens with his newfound riches. One classic fried, one soy sauce-glazed, and one spicy.

“So yummy!” Byeol exclaimed happily.

“Hahaha! Eat up!”

“Mm!”

The chicken was amazing. Even with the sauce coating, the skin stayed perfectly crispy, and the meat inside was tender and juicy.

Murmu smiled, thinking that he was having an unparalleled good fortune today.

“So, I heard Murmu came to visit,” Laghaim muttered, and Do-Jun nodded.

To welcome him to the Spirit Realm, Laghaim served tea brewed with a generous amount of honey extracted from Relicsia, a spirit herb. The Spirit Realm, rich with the essence of nature, was home to many such herbs, and Relicsia was especially known for its ability to cleanse impurities from the body.

“He’s probably playing with Byeol right now,” Do-Jun said indifferently.

“Isn’t that dangerous?”

“It’s fine.”

“Hm. If you say so, Master, then it must be.”

Laghaim found the current situation oddly fascinating. The Transcendents, with whom she once fought to the death, now didn’t seem so detestable. They had changed significantly compared to the past. Back then, the thought of peacefully coexisting like this would have been unimaginable.

“How’s the tea? Does it suit your taste?” she asked Do-Jun.

“It’s good.”

“I’m glad. Relicsia is also great for the skin, so drink as much as you like.”

“What about you? You’re not having any?” Do-Jun asked her.

Laghaim’s teacup held only a single sip’s worth of tea. Blushing slightly, she answered softly, “It makes you gain weight...”

“So what if you gain a little?”

“Oh, come on. That’s nice of you to say, but I care about it.”

“Alright, if that’s how you feel,” Do-Jun said.

Laghaim was actually on the slender side. Not too thin, but just the right amount. Of course, in the end, what mattered most was how she felt about it herself.

She gazed at her silhouette in the silky fabric of her dress and murmured, “What do you think, Master?”

“You look fine.”

“Is it... your type?”

“I don’t really have a preference.”

“So you like it?” she prompted.

Feeling a little annoyed, Do-Jun gave a half-hearted nod.

Laghaim chuckled, pleased even with that reaction. “I’m really glad you’re here, Master. Sometimes... I wonder what my life would’ve been like if you weren’t around. I don’t think it would have been very pleasant. That’s why I’m always grateful—for everything that made you who you are today.”

It was a statement that was perhaps a little too sentimental, but Do-Jun still thought it felt nice to hear. Being needed by someone—that alone could be a powerful reason to keep going.

“Then, I’d better make sure I never change your mind about that,” Do-Jun replied with a smile.

Laghaim felt inexplicably healed. She wished that this peace and happiness would last forever.

***

Ever since the jackpot at the chicken spot, Murmu had nothing but good luck. For instance, when he bought a cola from a vending machine, two cans came out instead of one. He found coins on the street. He bought something and received a prize ticket—only to win immediately. Everything was going his way, and he was thrilled.

Byeol was sipping the can of cola Murmu had won for her. The refreshing fizz was the best. She had been craving one, so she had pestered him for it, and not only did he get one, but two had come out.

Today, she indulged in things her allowance could never have covered. She ate as much fried chicken as she wanted, drank cola, and even won a Pororong crayon set. She had just run out of the forty-eight-color set that Kiriel bought her last time, so she needed to get more. And now, by sheer luck, she got the Pororong crayons she had always wanted.

“Hehehe... This is terrifying,” Murmu muttered.

“Mm? What’s tewwifying? Are you scawed?” Byeol asked.

At that moment, Murmu felt like the entire world was revolving around him. No, it wasn’t just a feeling; it was reality. Everything today had gone amazingly well.

“It’s nothing. Let’s head home now,” he said to Byeol.

“Okie.”

***

Byeol returned home a little after 5 PM.

“Look at this!” She held up her Pororong forty-eight-color crayon set with a bright “Ta-da!” for Do-Jun to see. It was the very set she had been eyeing for a while.

Before Do-Jun could wonder how she had gotten it, Byeol pointed at Murmu and said, “Mistah won it for me! He said I could have it.”

“Really?” Do-Jun asked.

“Yep! And we had fwied chicken and cola too!”

Hearing that, Do-Jun turned to Murmu, who was rubbing his nose sheepishly.

“50,000 won wouldn’t have been enough for all that,” he said with skepticism in his eyes.

“Well, actually...” Murmu explained everything in vivid detail, leaving nothing out. He also made sure to mention that his total spending hadn’t even reached 10,000 won.

“My King,” Murmu said.

“Hm?”

“This... this is truly terrifying... hehehe.”

“Terrifying...? What is?” Do-Jun asked.

“The fact that everything—this world, the earth—is revolving around me!”

Do-Jun looked at Murmu silently. He was totally delusional, but he didn’t bother correcting him.

Murmu was grinning as if he were the happiest man alive.

***

The next morning, Murmu went out early. He planned to use the fried chicken coupon he had won the previous day to enjoy another feast. As he reached the restaurant, he saw a sign on the door.

“Closed for the day.

“Due to personal circumstances, we will not be open today. We apologize for the inconvenience.”

“C-closed?” Murmu was taken aback.

With no choice but to turn back, he saw the vending machine he had used yesterday. Grinning to himself, he slipped in a thousand-won bill, but the machine swallowed the money without dispensing anything.

“What’s going on...?”

Murmu scratched his head.
