Daddy is too Strong-Chapter 151
Chapter 151
Mount Yeongryunsan, illuminated by two moons, was a place of eternal night, where day did not exist.
Wei Zhongqi was here as usual, tending to his small farm in seclusion. He was cultivating the ingredients for a Sustenance Pill, a rare consumable item from the Central Plains, said to keep a person full for days with just one pill. Concocting the Sustenance Pill had long become a cherished hobby of Wei Zhongqi’s, who had adapted to life in the Deep Realm.
“I smell... an idiot,” he said suddenly.
Wei Zhongqi had an acute sense of smell, particularly for detecting anything foolish. He could catch that scent even from a thousand miles away. Sensing that Kiriel would likely show up soon, he debated whether to hide and pretend he wasn’t there. However, he gave up on the idea almost immediately.
“Wei Zhongqiiiiiiiii!” The roar echoed across the mountain range, startling the massive birds that had been resting. These strange creatures resembled crows but were over twenty meters in size.
Upon hearing Kiriel’s lion-like roar, Wei Zhongqi couldn’t help but curse under his breath. Moments later, Kiriel appeared in the distance, soaring toward him.
“What is it this time? Why do you always make such a big scene?” Wei Zhongqi asked, annoyed.
“Please look over my perfect reflection paper! I’ll change anything that needs work!”
Wei Zhongqi’s face froze in bewilderment. Did this guy even know the meaning of “perfect”? Nonetheless, he took the paper from Kiriel and began reading it slowly.
“Who: Me
“When: When I went to Earth
“Where: In a Fissure
“What: The King of Earth
“How: I encountered him
“Why: ”
On the side, Kiriel elaborated on his paper with a confident shrug. “You see, the most important thing about a reflection paper is adhering to the six W’s.”
It was concise, to say the least. However, there wasn’t even a hint of remorse in this so-called “reflection paper.”
Wei Zhongqi glanced at Kiriel’s smug expression before returning to the document. He had no idea where to even begin fixing it.
“Why did you leave the ‘Why’ part blank...?” he asked at last.
“No matter how much I think about it, I don’t know why I ran into the King of Earth. If I had to guess, maybe it was just bad luck that day.”
“Fair enough. You were unlucky.”
“Anyway, how’s the paper?”
“Hmm...” Wei Zhongqi debated whether he should tell the truth.
He could already imagine the chaos it would cause if Do-Jun saw this paper. At this point, he felt a little sorry for Kiriel. Sure, Kiriel was a bit of an idiot, but he wasn’t a bad guy by any means. Wei Zhongqi decided to revise the paper so that Kiriel could retrieve his bow. At least, that was the plan—until Kiriel opened his mouth again.
“By the way, what’s in that jar behind the house?” Kiriel asked.
“Why are you asking?”
“Well, on my way up, I accidentally bumped into it. It fell down the cliff.”
Wei Zhongqi’s eyebrow twitched. That jar contained the Sustenance Pills he had painstakingly crafted and treasured. Now, thanks to Kiriel, they were all gone. His blood was boiling.
“Kiriel,” Wei Zhongqi said.
“Yeah?”
“Your reflection paper is perfect.”
***
Kiriel stood at the entrance of Changshin Villa, a building located in Bangbae-dong, Seocho-gu, Seoul, South Korea. His face was tense, and his nervousness was evident to anyone who looked at him.
This was the residence of the terrifying former Overlord of the Deep Realm and the King of Earth whom he served. Not even standing before Baal, the Demon King, or Imfelheim, the Ender of Infinity, had made him this anxious.
He recited his rehearsed lines quietly.
“Hello, my name is Kiriel. I believe we met the last time I came here... I would be extremely grateful if you could return my bow. I’ve also brought a reflection paper to show my sincerity.”
It was good, it was perfect.
He knocked, but there was no response from inside. Could it be that the King of Earth was stuck with “overtime” again, just like last time? Even if he was, the girl he saw the last time should have opened the door by now. Should he just leave and come back another day? But then the Book of Transfer he used would have been wasted.
“What do I do now?”
As Kiriel’s internal turmoil deepened, the door to unit 301 of Changshin Villa clicked open. Three seconds later, a tiny figure appeared—a child no older than two or three by human standards.
“Who are you?” the child asked.
Today, Byeol was home alone. Yoon-Hee had instructed her not to open the door for strangers, but she had momentarily forgotten and did so. Just as she was about to close it again, she paused. For some reason, the man in front of her seemed oddly familiar.
“If you don’t answer, I will close the door!” Byeol told him.
“W-wait!” Kiriel cleared his throat before continuing, “Ahem! I am Kiriel! I’ve come for Gungnir, the bow that lies asleep in your home! Look, I even brought a reflection paper!”
Kiriel frantically unfolded the crumpled paper and showed it to Byeol.
Byeol was well aware of reflection papers. Whenever she made a mistake, Do-Jun would ask her to write one. She had to explain what she did wrong, how she would reflect on it, and what she would do differently in the future.
“Mistah, did you do something bad to Daddy?”
“Daddy? Ah! So you’re the King of Earth’s daughter. Well, yes, I wronged your dad.”
“Okie. But Daddy isn’t home. You’ll have to wait.”
“How long do I have to wait...?”
At his question, Byeol fell into deep thought. Just then, they heard a growl. It was a familiar sound, but it wasn’t coming from her stomach—it was coming from Kiriel’s.
***
Byeol opened a drawer in the bedroom. Inside were the two coin purses she owned: one was a yellow chick purse, and the other was a white purse with a bear design that she had received from a goblin not long ago.
“What’s that?” Kiriel asked, curious.
“This is my wallet. It has money in it.”
“I see. It’s pretty heavy.”
“That’s because I have a lot of money.”
Byeol opened the bear purse and spilled the coins onto the floor. Nine one-hundred-won coins rolled out!
“I’m hungwy. Let’s go to the stowe,” she said.
“Store? I don’t need anything, just Gungnir...” freewёbnoνel.com
Right on cue, Kiriel’s stomach growled again like thunder. He hadn’t eaten anything the day before because he was busy with the reflection paper, and he had rushed to Earth today.
Seeing Kiriel clutch his stomach, Byeol tiptoed and whispered into his ear, “The stowe has food. I will tweat you.”
In the end, Kiriel had no choice but to leave his beloved Gungnir behind, lying on the balcony, and step outside. The moment he did, a store with a weathered sign reading “Changshin Super” came into view.
Byeol toddled over and, as if familiar with the place, slid open the store’s door.
“Hi, Gwanny!”
“Oh my, it’s Byeol. Did you come alone today?”
“I came with Mistah!”
“Mister?”
The elderly store owner soon saw the young man who entered after Byeol. His appearance was strikingly foreign, with navy-blue hair and prominent eyebrows. His attire was equally unusual—he wore what appeared to be a torn traditional summer tunic, with one sleeve missing.
“Pick one thing to eat. But only from this section,” Byeol said.
“This is all food...?” Kiriel muttered as he examined the shelf Byeol was pointing at.
Small snacks were lined up neatly on display. Each was wrapped in brightly colored plastic, and most were small in size.
“This one’s my favowite.”
Byeol picked up a package printed with the words “Choco Pie”[1] alongside the Chinese character for affection (情). Scratching his head, Kiriel grabbed one of the same kind.
“Hmm, good choice,” Byeol muttered, then placed six hundred won on the counter.
The elderly store owner always wanted to give Byeol free snacks whenever she visited, but Byeol’s father had firmly told her not to, fearing it would spoil her.
Once outside the store, Byeol decided to teach Kiriel how to eat the Choco Pie.
“Mistah, do what I do, okay?”
“Sure.”
First, Byeol tore open the wrapper with her hands, gripping the jagged edge and gently pulling it down to unseal it neatly. Kiriel mimicked her and opened his Choco Pie in the same manner.
“First, smell it.”
Byeol closed her eyes and savored the sweet aroma of the Choco Pie.
“Next, lick it.”
She licked a part of the Choco Pie’s surface.
“And then, you eat it.”
Taking a big bite, Byeol chewed with a blissful expression that screamed happiness.
Kiriel silently observed and then followed Byeol’s instructions step by step. He sniffed the bread, licked the surface, and finally shoved the entire piece into his mouth in one go.
“Tasty?” Byeol asked with hopeful eyes.
Swallowing the Choco Pie, Kiriel swept his hair back with his hand, and his lips curled into a smirk.
W-what is this flavor?!
The sweet aroma lingered in his mouth. He had never tasted anything like this in his entire life.
I want more!
Kiriel grabbed Byeol’s shoulders and pleaded, “I-I want more! Three—no, just two more!”
“I-I don’t have that much money wight now. Only fouh hundwed won le...”
Just then, something caught Byeol’s eye. It was the gachapon machine that she and Yong-Yong sometimes played with for fun. For a hundred won, you could tear off one of the tickets attached to the machine. Occasionally, you’d win something like a Choco Pie, making it a form of gambling for kids.
“Mistah, twy that!” she said, pointing at the machine.
If they were lucky enough to win third place, they could get a whole box of Choco Pie. Byeol pulled out the remaining four hundred won from her coin purse.
“We can try four times!”
***
As always, the walk home was pleasant. After getting off the subway, Do-Jun took the first exit at Bangbae Station. As he passed the Bangbae-dong Community Center, he briefly looked up at the sky. The sunset bathed him in its warm glow, as if signaling the end of the workday.
After walking for two more minutes and entering the Changshin Villa complex, he noticed a large group of children gathered at the nearby store. While a few kids usually hung around the store, today the number seemed unusually high, creating a racket.
“Mister! You only have one more chance!”
“There’s no way you’ll lose four times in a row, right?”
“If Byeol can’t eat Choco Pie, it’s your fault!”
Do-Jun walked toward the commotion. There, crouched in front of the gachapon machine, was Kiriel, a man from the Deep Realm he had seen before. He was completely engrossed in the game, so much so that he didn’t notice Do-Jun standing right next to him.
Do-Jun noticed a crumpled piece of parchment lying on the arcade chair and picked it up.
“A reflection paper, huh...” Reading the poorly scribbled words, he placed it back where he had found it.
“Woaaaah!” Cheers erupted.
Kiriel had won third place—a whole box of Choco Pie.
“Mister got the Choco Pie!”
“Pahaha! Behold! The god of gachapon has blessed me!”
Surrounded by laughing children, with Byeol and Kiriel at the center, the scene, bathed in the golden hues of sunset, looked like a picture-perfect moment.
With a short snort of amusement, Do-Jun turned and started walking home. Today, his steps felt lighter than ever.
1. The original here says Choco Bread. The raws changed Choco Pie to Choco Bread from this chapter, but we are keeping this as Choco Pie for the sake of continuity. ☜
