Song Yu Han had raised hell in that room. He didn't care who they were. Didn't care what power they held outside the ship. In this place, their titles and wealth were nothing more.

He just wanted to use up all the remaining rounds.

The chants have ceased. But the scream continued.

The scent of incense and smoke mingled with the stench of gunpowder and blood. The moonlight spilling through the open dome illuminated the bodies scattered across the floor, twisted and crumpled awkwardly.

Song Yu Han tossed the gun, having run out of its bullets. He took another one from his back holster, and coincidentally, one of the men he shot twitched, and he shot him in the head.

Another tried to crawl away, hands stained with blood as he begged in a language Song Yu Han didn't bother understanding. The man's plea ended with a croak as he took his last breath.

Silence crept into the chamber. Occasionally, a whimper would come out from the few who got far from Song Yu Han's path. But as much as they desperately wanted to escape from there, they knew that one movement from them, the man would shoot them dead.

They didn't dare breathe loudly. They huddled in a corner, grasping at straws for a chance or even a slight hope that Song Yu Han would show some mercy.

Song Yu Han, however, did not even glance at them.

When he reached the altar, Ran Xueyi lay there.

For the first time since he had entered the room, his composure finally showed some cracks.

"Xueyi."

He dropped his weapon and climbed onto the platform in two long strides, hands already caressing her cheeks and checking the pulse in her wrist.

Song Yu Han released the breath he was holding, relieved that she was not dead. Just the thought that he was already too late ate him up way more than he let on.

Thankfully, he wasn't late.

The thin fabric clinging to her body was soaked with cold sweat, her skin icy beneath his touch.

Song Yu Han lowered himself and pressed his forehead against hers.

"Xueyi," he whispered.

The knot in his heart slowly unraveled when he saw her lashes move. Her eyes did not open, but that was still a sign she was fine.

Song Yu Han then pressed a tender kiss on her lips.

How he missed the touch of her lips, her scent, and the feel of her skin against his. He thought there was no need to be afraid of anything. Yet, now that he had her, Song Yu Han realized that he had one fear.

And that is losing Ran Xueyi.

Losing her would mean never seeing her, touching her, and being able to kiss her. He wouldn't get to watch her dance, act childishly, and pour her love onto him.

Song Yu Han shrugged off his coat and wrapped it around her, cocooning her body in warmth. Under the fearful gazes of those who were inside the chamber, he lifted her into his arms with practiced ease, cradling her head against the crook of his neck.

He carried her off the altar and started to walk away.

That was when he noticed someone moving underneath a dead body.

He didn't need to finish all of them right this instant. His priority was to secure and take Ran Xueyi to a safer place. Besides, although he had rescued her alone, that didn't mean he had no plans for retaliation.

Song Yu Han stepped over the blood, leaving many shoe marks on the ground.

The people who escaped from Song Yu Han watched him intently. Although they were scared of him, they still harbored extreme hostility and hatred towards him for what he had done to their sacred ritual.

Watching many of them die also made them swallow the curse words they wanted to spit at him. So, they could only hide their fangs away, hoping he would go away as soon as possible.

However, one of them did not share the same thought as the others.

Seeing Song Yu Han walk away, Cao Yujin felt uneasy. Unlike the others, she knew his character. He wouldn't do something without seeing it through to the end.

He wouldn't act unless he thought he had the advantage

With the thought of only saving herself, Cao Yujin rushed out from her hiding.

"W—wait!"

Her voice cracked as she called for him to stop.

Song Yu Han, however, treated it as if nothing had happened.

He continued to walk away as if he couldn't hear anything.

That was when Cao Yujin realized how far down this was going to be.

"Song…Song Yu Han!" she shouted his name and ran past him to stand before him. "It's me."

Song Yu Han only stopped when she blocked his way.

His gaze finally fell on her.

Many times, Cao Yujin wanted him to look her way. But now that she got what she wanted, why did it feel as if she was standing on the edge of a cliff.

"Get out of my sight."

He dismissed her immediately.

As if she were already dead.

"What?" Cao Yujin stared in disbelief at him.

Song Yu Han continued to walk. Even though Cao Yujin blocked his way, he didn't even stop and bumped against her, pushing to stumble to the other side.

"Don't ignore me!" she cried. "I have nothing to do with any of this. I was only brought here because of someone. That's right. You know that man named Percy, right? He was the one who had someone bring me here!"

Song Yu Han said nothing.

Desperate to get an answer from him, Cao Yujin recounted what happened at the banquet hall and the auction. And how she didn't know that Ran Xueyi was in there.

Of course, when Cao Yujin mentioned her name, she was still filled with bitterness. Yet, she didn't dare show it in front of Song Yu Han as she still wanted to save her life.

But Song Yu Han had already decided the ending of everyone on the ship the moment Ran Xueyi was forcefully taken from the island.

And so, no matter how much Cao Yujin begged or explained, it still wouldn't change his mind.

But something in her story caught his attention.

The name 'Percy' was not unfamiliar to him.

But he didn't put importance on it right now.

"Can't I come along with you?" she looked at him pleadingly. "You've got what you came here for. Please. I'll do anything."

She dropped to her knees.

"I'll beg if I have to."

Finally, Song Yu Han stopped.

For a second, Cao Yujin's heart leapt with hope.

Then, she heard Song Yu Han speak.

"You and your family did nothing but torment my grandfather." His gaze dropped to her kneeling form. "When you found out I am married, do I still have to tell you what you and your family thought of doing to my wife?"

Her breath was caught in her throat.

"Miss Cao, if you found out that it was Ran Xueyi on the altar and was to be sacrificed, would you save her?"

"I–"

"No, you won't," Song Yu Han answered for her.

Cao Yujin's face twisted.

She saw Song Yu Han's hand under Ran Xueyi's legs move. A light flashed.

"You can't— you can't do this! My grandfather—!"

A gunshot rang out.

Her body jerked as the sound cut her off mid-sentence.

Cao Yujin collapsed forward, forehead falling on the floor with a dull thud. Soon, blood spread beneath her.

Song Yu Han didn't watch her die. He turned away the instant he pulled the trigger.
