Cyberpunk: Ultimate Cyborg System-Chapter 495: Bone Crown. (Part Two.)
Sensing the floor tremble under him, Werewolf jumped aside a moment before another white spear sprang up from the ground.
Another one followed him, coming out an instant before he landed, and just when he evaded that one, a third flew right past his face, almost piecing his head.
Bending backwards to evade, Werewolf chained it with a flip, then poised himself for a charge. The floor shattered under his feet, and he crossed the room in a fraction of a second, his clenched fist exploding forward.
The Pope didn’t budge, the same grin still on his eerie face. Several white spears sprang up, piecing the ceiling just in time to block the oncoming attack.
The white spears seemed to absorb the blow, wobbling as they transferred it to the building. Cracks run through them, and an instant later, they crumbled to dust. Werewolf sensed it wasn’t a result of his attack and quickly leaped, but it was already too late.
"Youngsters," the Pope said. "Always so full of yourselves."
The white spears turned to dust, then coalesced, once again turning into spears. The first one shot forward, the room rumbling from the force of it’s launch. A red streak crossed the air, its source a cut on Werewolf’s neck. If he hadn’t tilted his head in time, that spear would have severed a major artery.
"Guhh!"
His relief at having evaded a disaster was short-lived as sharp pain coursed through his body all of a sudden. Looking down, he found that his leg was pierced by a different spike.
Just as he thought to break it, the spike shrank to half its size, leaving crimson blood to spill out of the wound, but before he could feel any relief, a dozen more exploded from his leg, turning it into a needle cushion.
"I know all about you, boy," the Pope spoke. "Born into wealth, talented from a young age. You couldn’t live a normal life, so you had your parents buy you the way to play hero. And now you come to bring judgment on us?" Every white spear in the room shattered, turning into dust. A moment later, they formed new spears, each with its point aimed at the white hero. "What gives you the right!!?"
Gritting his teeth, Werewolf pushed with his healthy leg and managed to leap out of the way. His ears caught the sound of the floor being pierced, but it wasn’t the only one.
He rolled away just as something flashed right above him. It was another set of spikes, only these were made from white light.
Their path was blocked with a white wall, which they pierced at almost the exact same moment.
All at once, the energy bolts brightened. A series of detonations followed, and the building trembled once more.
As the light faded, things seemed to calm down. The spikes piercing Werewolf’s leg fell one after the other, and the wounds quickly closed. He was about to turn to his opponent when he remembered that someone else had been in the room.
His head whipped in the direction of the table, and when he found it overturned in one of the corners, only the worst-case scenario came to his mind.
The table moved a moment later, and the red haired your emerged from behind it.
"Shit..." He ruffled his hair, removing the dust stuck to it. He turned to the broken window next, and as he did, rage painted his face. "HEY!!! THE FUCK WERE YOU THINKING!!?"
About to let out a sigh of relief, Werewolf’s ears twitched, and he returned his attention to his opponent.
"Damn you..."
The white wall crumbled into dust, and the Pope was once again within sight. Not a scratch was on his body, let alone a burn. His face wasn’t that of someone who had just tanked an explosion.
"Worthless lab rats. All you do is ruin everything..." he said between gritted teeth. "You will pay for-"
Not waiting to hear the threat, Werewolf immediately lunged at him. He forewent his fists and bared his claws, having concluded that normal attacks wouldn’t land.
Another wall of spies appeared in his way, blocking his strike, but this time he had something to show for it.
Bái Gǔnán Sorcery was Bone Alchemy. Using powder made from human bones, he is able to create a variety of objects for both attack and defence. The bones created through the Sorcery are much tougher than normal human bones. Despite that, the slash managed to leave marks on the bones, showing Werewolf that his claws were effective.
"Arrogant fool!"
New bone spears formed around the Pope, but then they shattered. Werewolf already knew what was about to happen, leaping back the moment his ears twitched.
More white arrows flew into the room, only to pierce a white wall.
More explosions shook the building, and the devastation that was left behind grew worse.
"Motherfu-"
Emerging from behind the table, the red-haired youth picked up a piece of rubble and ran toward the window. Werewolf wasn’t the one to question what happened. The youth stretched his arm back and twisted his body.
The building shook once more, this time from a sudden Sonic boom. Werewolf didn’t get the chance to admire what happened, as the target of the projectile was his teammate.
"Arrow!!?"
[I’m... I’m fine...] the reply came from comms. [Sorry, but... You might have to finish this alone.]
Anger quickly welled up in Werewolf. His muscles bulged, and his fur began to stand. His fur elongated as well. His fury was momentarily directed at the red-haired youth, but all he got in return was a "what? You wanna go?"
His danger sense warned him that something was coming, and he quickly moved, evading more bone spikes as they blew past him like missiles.
Regaining some of his composure, Werewolf held on to his anger and reached for the power inside him.
Crimson energy spilled from his hands and quickly gathered around each of his claws, forming an entirely new set.
