Cursed System-Chapter 33: New technique and hidden quest
Its mind seemed to race, as though calculating an escape from this torment before speaking again.
"As we can all see, they are not yet of age," it said coldly.
"But we cannot afford to wait a thousand years—or even a century less—for the new reincarnations of the gods’ totem fathers."
It raised its staff slightly.
"Therefore, I propose five years. That is enough."
"I accept,"
The man with the golden crown replied after a brief pause.
"Wait,"
The muscular man interjected. "Won’t they be killed before then?"
"No,"
The skeletal figure answered sharply. "Unless someone wants me to unveil the True Blood Seeker, no being born of twilight shall perish."
It slammed its silver blood staff against the ground.
The entire hall trembled as an ominous presence washed over everyone. [Previous Chapter before]
During the following days, my experiments went from simple errors to countless failures. It felt like I was tackling everything from the wrong angle.
I couldn’t figure out what was wrong, but I knew something had to be—either with me, or with the path I had been following all along just to reach a reasonable result.
The worst part was that the feeling of empowerment I had felt before was completely gone, same was my effort of trying to replicate it.
There was no flow of Mana from my Mana core coursing through my body either. None of this was good news, yet no matter how much I thought about it, I couldn’t make any sense of why I was failing every single damn time.
Slowly, I began thinking back to the very first time I had felt that sensation. It wasn’t new to me—I had felt it once before while practicing the meditation technique.
It was the exact same sensation I experienced when I subconsciously activated cursed Intimidation, although the feeling was more intense nevertheless it was the same feeling.
That was when a thought struck me.
What if I could recreate that same sensation by doing something like a reverse cultivation of the meditation technique? Although it sounded a bit dangerous when thinking about it deeply, but it was better than nothing.
I couldn’t wait any longer. I decided to test my theory immediately.
After some time, I opened the system interface and went straight to the S, B, and T panels.
Once I was sure no one was awake, I activated the meditation technique.
Soon, I began to feel a faint tinge spread throughout my body. Energy—no, to be precise, Mana—gently moved and condensed within my Mana core.
The more I practiced, the clearer my perception became, and the more Mana I could sense gathering inside my body.
However, the longer I continued, the more I realized just how little control I actually had over the Mana within my core.
Even so, I refused to give up. I tried to mimic that feeling of empowerment while focusing on reversing the flow of Mana entering my body. I clung desperately to the last trace of that familiar sensation my perception could pick up, trying to make it stay at all costs.
I wanted it to last forever.
Then, suddenly, something clicked inside me.
I didn’t know what it was, but I kept my focus locked onto whatever strand of Mana remained. Strangely, I felt a unique connection suddenly form between me and that lingering sensation.
Even after I closed my eyes, the connection didn’t stop. It spread from my head throughout my body, and I slowly began to emit a dim halo of Mana. The sphere of Mana transformed into energy and flowed into me, making my body feel increasingly empowered.
It felt as if something deep within me was taking shape. The connection became ingrained into my very fibers, and obsessively, I began repeating that sensation in my mind.
Still repeating the feeling, I slowly opened my pale eyes and stared ahead. What I saw left me completely flabbergasted. Notifications floated in front of me, and surrounding my body were dim lights—no, a multitude of them—hovering and gradually growing brighter and stronger.
Barely a second later, just before exhaustion drained the last of my Mana and pulled me into sleep, a smile slowly crept onto my face.
[Hidden Quest has been Completed]
After sleeping for an unknown amount of time, I slowly woke up, the events from before replaying clearly in my mind. I took note of my surroundings—it seemed like it was already morning.
How long did I sleep?
I didn’t know exactly how long I had been out, but it had to be longer than usual. Time in this world didn’t follow precise measurements—only morning, afternoon, and night.
Morning was marked by the crowing of roosters. Afternoon by the sun rising high in the sky. Night came with the setting sun, the sluggishness of farm animals, and the closing of small flower buds.
Since it was still likely morning, I guessed my family wouldn’t be too worried about my unusual sleep, so I pushed the thought aside.
[Hidden Quest has been Completed!]
’Huh? This is...?’
I stared at the notification. It was one of the last things I remembered seeing before passing out from Mana exhaustion.
