Cultivating with Bragging System-Chapter 528 - 259: Escaping Death! The True Great Battle!_2
All the surrounding Earth Immortal experts were aghast, feeling a tremor in their hearts. It was as if an unspeakable horror had fixed its gaze upon them. But that sensation was fleeting, vanishing in an instant as if it had been an illusion.
In a mere moment, Wang Xiu felt his body lighten. The terrifying pressure that had enveloped him disappeared without a trace, and he could move freely.
"It really works!" Wang Xiu exclaimed with joy. Without hesitation, a hairpin suddenly appeared in his hand. He channeled Mana into it and slashed forward.
RRRIP!
Space shattered as a terrifying portal opened. A tide of cold so intense it could freeze anything surged out from it, eradicating all life in its path.
The terrifying demonic claw was just an inch from Wang Xiu when it was halted by the cold surge, brought to a standstill.
"Nine Heavens Mystic Step!"
Wang Xiu swiftly retreated. Dense runes appeared beneath his feet, each step blossoming into a lotus that eclipsed the sun. A vast mystic light surged from his body, forming tens of thousands of light shadows that merged into one. This movement technique was profound and enigmatic, with each rune seeming to contain the ultimate truth of the Dao. He merged into the void and, in an instant, was tens of thousands of miles away.
In that same instant, an unimaginable fluctuation erupted between the cold surge and the demonic claw. A storm of snow and Demonic Qi engulfed that part of the void. An infinite expanse of space shattered and reformed, constantly reconfiguring as waves of spatial turbulence, carrying an annihilating intent, sent shivers down one’s spine.
Thankfully, Wang Xiu had retreated quickly. Had he been caught in that storm, his fate would have been dreadful!
"What? The Saint Heir of Sanqing actually escaped!"
"That’s impossible! That was the Demon Emperor’s attack! Who below the level of an Earth Immortal could survive that?"
"He actually survived!"
Countless people exclaimed in amazement, finding it unbelievable. When the Demon Emperor himself took action, even a Saint of the Human Race should have had no chance of survival. What’s more, Wang Xiu was merely a Cultivator at the Nascent Soul Stage? It should have been an easy capture! No matter how many tricks he had up his sleeve, he should not have been able to use any of them under such absolute, crushing power.
But the reality of the situation was completely unexpected.
The young True Demons who had been so heavily injured were especially dumbfounded. What kind of monster is this Saint Heir of Sanqing? Even the Demon Emperor couldn’t hold him? Suddenly, the shame they felt for being so easily defeated by Wang Xiu lessened considerably. After all... even the Demon Emperor had failed, so wasn’t it perfectly normal that they were no match for him? 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢
"How could this be?"
In the void, a purple-robed elder with a weak aura and dried blood at the corner of his mouth stared at the escaping Wang Xiu, nearly spitting out a mouthful of old blood in frustration. He had cast aside his dignity as a Demon Emperor to attack a junior of the Human Race. To ensure a one-hit kill, he had not even dodged the attacks from the Human Race’s Earth Immortals. He had relied on his Demon Treasures and physical body to endure the blows, all because he feared giving Wang Xiu an opportunity to escape.
And yet, he still let him get away, completely unharmed?
"Hahaha, our Sanqing Saint Heir is not so easily killed!" the Sanqing Fire Ancestor roared with laughter upon seeing Wang Xiu safe and sound. His long hair blazed like fire and the Immortal Qi around his body grew incomparably dense. His fighting spirit soared to the heavens.
"Phew~" The Snow Ancestor also breathed a sigh of relief, her towering chest heaving rapidly. That boy... he really had me worried for a moment!
"A mighty Demon Emperor, shamelessly attacking me, a junior. It seems those hundreds of years sealed away on Demon Sea Island have completely ground away your pride!" Wang Xiu declared, standing atop the walls of Zhenmo City. He gazed into the distance and chuckled lightly, appearing completely nonchalant.
His tone, however, was enough to infuriate the Demon Emperors. Their faces darkened and their bodies roiled with Demonic Qi, causing the entire firmament to thunder.
"Are you alright?" his side, Zhuo Canglang looked at Wang Xiu with concern, sizing him up from head to toe.
"I’m fine. Thank goodness for the hairpin the Snow Ancestor bestowed upon me. It bought me that sliver of a chance!" Wang Xiu held out his hand. The hairpin emitted a faint, pearlescent light. A third of its runes had been worn away, but it still retained a remnant of an Earth Immortal’s aura.
Zhuo Canglang glanced at the hairpin. The Ancestral Master is truly thoughtful, he mused. To think she gave the Saint Heir such a life-saving treasure in advance. Otherwise, if Wang Xiu had truly perished here today, it would have been an immense loss not just for the Sanqing Immortal Sect... but for the entire Human Race!
"The battlefield is perilous, Saint Heir. You should take a few more treasures for protection!" Zhuo Canglang considered this for a moment, then pulled a Space Ring from the sleeve of his tattered Daoist robe. He handed it to Wang Xiu, indicating for him to pick whatever he wanted.
Wang Xiu was taken aback. He took the ring and looked inside to find it filled with a dazzling array of treasures. Precious light shot forth from heaps of Spiritual Artifacts and, to his surprise, he even saw several Holy Artifacts! Moreover, the ring itself was extraordinary. Its runes were magnificent and it was bathed in a mist of immortal light—it was actually an Immortal Artifact! It contained a small world, complete with spirit fields planted with various Spiritual and Treasure Medicines...
What in the world?
He had only been on Demon Sea Island for a few months. Had the Sanqing Immortal Sect become this wealthy?
"What is this?"
"The Immortal Sect’s Treasure Storage. This is one of them!" Zhuo Canglang explained that due to past calamities, the Sanqing Immortal Sect had lost numerous spirit peaks, leading to the loss of countless rare treasures and legacies. An unimaginable fortune had been washed away.
Thus, they learned their lesson. They stored the most precious treasures of each lineage in these Immortal Artifact-grade rings, which were then entrusted to several of the most esteemed and powerful Cultivators in the Immortal Sect for safekeeping. This way, even if the Immortal Sect were to face another catastrophe, as long as someone escaped, they would always have the chance to start over. They would not end up like the Jiuli Cave Heaven, which was left with nothing and had to start from scratch. Each ring was protected by restrictions personally set by the Earth Immortal ancestors. If anyone took something from one ring, all other ring bearers would sense it, effectively preventing any pilfering.
"Then... what about that Treasure Pavilion in our Immortal Sect?" Wang Xiu asked, blinking as he began to guess the truth.
"It’s a fake!" Sure enough, Zhuo Canglang nodded in confirmation.
A twitch tugged at the corner of Wang Xiu’s mouth. Good grief. A fall into the pit, a gain in your wit. They really learned their lesson the hard way.
Although the idea of carrying the entire sect’s treasury around on one’s person would seem absurd to others, he realized upon further thought that it was a brilliant contingency plan for the future. It provided a sliver of hope in case the worst-case scenario unfolded.
Wang Xiu browsed through the ring. The collection was extremely rich, yet according to Zhuo Canglang, the treasures inside amounted to less than one-thousandth of what the Sanqing Immortal Sect possessed at its peak. One could only imagine how glorious the sect had been in its heyday.
Wang Xiu didn’t stand on ceremony. He chose a pair of jade rings called the True Phoenix Rupture Rings, which were top-grade Holy Artifacts. They could be used for both offense and defense and had once been tempered with the Precious Blood of the True Phoenix lineage, granting them exceptional power. The moment he held them, Wang Xiu could feel their resonance and was extremely satisfied. They were in no way inferior to Li Xuanqi’s counterfeit Sun and Moon Golden Wheels!
"You’re not picking anything else?" Zhuo Canglang asked, a little surprised to see Wang Xiu handing the ring back after choosing only a single Holy Artifact. He had wanted to give Wang Xiu more treasures for protection. If a situation like today’s were to arise again, more artifacts would mean more options.
"This is enough!" Wang Xiu smiled and declined.
Treasures, especially those at the Holy Artifact level or above, were not a matter of ’the more, the better’. Holy Artifacts possess spirits of their own and require constant melding with their user. This process of refinement and sacrifice can take hundreds, or even thousands, of years to complete. For now, Wang Xiu had the Asura Heaven Punishment Sword for offense and the Ice Phoenix Luo Xian Armor from the Snow Ancestor for defense, which was more than enough.
Even when he reached the Emergence Stage or the Saint Manifestation Stage, he wouldn’t face the dilemma of lacking a suitable treasure. Taking any more would be pointless. He simply didn’t have the energy to refine them. As for items of a higher grade, even if Zhuo Canglang really gave him an Immortal Artifact, Wang Xiu wouldn’t be able to unleash its true power with his current Realm.
Hearing Wang Xiu’s reasoning, Zhuo Canglang nodded and put the ring away. Just as he was about to say something, both of them suddenly looked up at the distant battlefield.
Battle qi surged there as several Demon Emperors faced off against the Earth Immortals. The void continuously twisted, creating bizarre and astonishing scenes.
"The real battle... is about to begin!" Zhuo Canglang said in a low voice. Even the crow on his shoulder fell silent as gloomy clouds shrouded the heavens and the earth.
The fact that experts at the Earth Immortal level had made their move signified that the battle had reached its most ferocious peak. The higher-ups of the Demon Race had realized that if their strongest fighters didn’t act, the rest of their forces would no longer be enough to suppress the Human Race.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
The war drums of both sides began to sound in unison.
The firmament trembled.
Endless holy light permeated the air, obscuring the sky as hundreds of Human Race Saints soared into the heavens.
