Chapter 129 - Beneath the Statue(15)

Putting his face so close to the ancient creature that was still frantically trying to crawl away from the menacing, half-charred face of the giant with one eye that was now looking at it with a horrendously chaotic and seemingly sadistic expression as he was slowly starting to heave up one of his gigantic arms, with the ant not able to see the other one, though in truth there was only one, and slowly he put his hand closer, in front of the ant that was still frantically crawling, though the ant simply changed it's direction once more, something it must have experienced far too often to count in it's seemingly endless live, a life that from what Cades could tell had to have been at least as long as his own, if not even much, much longer.

Cades had put his finger in front of the ant so he might inspect it even closer, without fearing that it might somehow run away, a fear that was actually grounded in reality as the ant was of the third sequence and as such faster than normal, about seven times as fast as a normal ant actually, something that Cades did however not really realize as he had not seen a normal insect, or even just a normal being that was not part of any sequence in far too long, after all he was in Unulria, a school with a minimum if the third sequence, the same as the ant's, back when he had started this journey, or rather back when he had been sent on this horrible journey.

As he watched the ant turn around as soon as it sensed the dangerous feeling that was emanating from his whole body with him not even realizing that it was there, something he would perhaps only figure out quite a bit later once he met another traveller in this void, just as when Manug had commented about this very same feeling he had felt from him, something about eating babies if Cades remembered correctly, he felt something resembling a grave sadness at the idea of scaring even the most innocent beings in this realm, a fact he was most certain of as he felt that the insect could barely kill anything in here, but he quickly ended his thoughts, and decided on what to do next, finally having regained full control over his body, a process that had been quickened by his power and his mana coursing through his arteries and enforcing his flesh, an almost natural process for him by now.

He quickly turned around, his feet causing some of the gravel covering the ground to be shattered, further proving his small theory of them being made out of glass or something akin to that, and, while trying not to think about the ant that was still crawling away, running as quickly as it could from the giant that it might have thought wanted to eat it or something like that, he started to think about his true purpose for killing the monster, or at least he did until he began to remember that he had gained another active, one that he was quite happy about testing out for himself as he truly had no idea what it was capable of doing even thought it was now at home within his legs, or to be exact, within the soles of his feet, protruding through the thick layer of dirt that had long since covered them after he had been walking through this endless realm without any footwear, something that could not be stopped despite them having been hardened and made more durable by his own magical energy and intent.

It was time, Cades was certain of that, to finally figure out what his new active did, the active with probably the weirdest intent he had ever felt, the intent of sticking itself to something, though, Cades had one idea on what the thing would allow him to do. freeweɓnøvel.com

Cades' idea of the function of this active was that it might allow his feet to stick to the material he was walking on, or perhaps even allowing him to walk on the sides of the chains, the islands, perhaps even on the bottoms, though he was quite terrified by the idea of being separated from the endless abyss of light by one singular active, even more so if it was within his hands or if he were to wear footwear of any kind, and then there was of course the monsters Manug had mentioned as only being able to attack you when you were flying, or perhaps only when you were directly within the endless light and endless darkness of this realm, as such, at least to Cades this seemed both good and bad when he just thought about it like that.

But nevertheless Cades was certain that he would be able to figure it out quickly, right before he went on to build his new arm, he would just have to test it out, and he could do that right away, and he did so right after looking for a big, thick tree, the one the monster had crashed against first, something that he had seen just a few minutes ago and realized as to it's identity when he looked at the big scratches and the much bigger but surprisingly difficult to spot dent within the bark of the ancient bone tree that had lost quite a lot of it's branches and leaves as the two had crashed against it, something that he had only realized after coming close enough to see small, shrivelled up parts of them that had seemingly lost all colour and vitality after having touched the gravel on the ground.

Finally Cades closed his eyes for a moment, something that didn't really serve a specific purpose but was more so that he could wholly concentrate on the sensation that now happened as the magical energy that had already been present within his feet was now moving according to an invisible force, the active, something that was different from the last time where he could not tell that anything was happening at all, well, barely.

And then it was done and he could finally feel his feet doing something, quite the weird sensation at that, a sensation that reminded him of magnetization magic used in artificing, and even used in the rough sketch he already had of his new arm, prepared within his mind.
