Chapter 143: Queen of Krivos [7] [Caldron v/s Akamir]

’Huh?’

Akamir thought, looking around.

’W-what was that?’

The glitch came and was gone before he could even understand.

Looking at the elf, Akamir was sure he wasn’t hallucinating as he also had a bewildered look on his face.

"What did you do?" Lucien asked, glaring at Akamir. "What trick—."

"It wasn’t him." Caldron said, eyeing Akamir thoroughly. "It was something else."

Lucien still glared at him like he didn’t hear the elf.

"Kill him immediately!"

Akamir let out a sigh as he rubbed the back of his neck. ’The elf doesn’t seem to like Lucien.’

The look that he was giving said it all.

Caldron wasn’t doing it with his own will but was forced to stay with him.

The elf sighed as he walked to the centre of the room.

"Asher Leon Vyavan." He said, his voice booming within the entire throne room. "I heard a lot about you."

Akamir jerked his hand that was holding the sword. "I wish I could say the same for you."

The elf let out a soft chuckle. "You don’t have to." He said, "I am doing it because of my master’s will."

"Ah, the Royal advisor of the elf, right?" Akamir asked, tilting his head. "Makes me wonder why an elf is taking interest in humans."

Caldron’s face turned serious as he looked at him.

Not many know who he works for and someone who shouldn’t be aware of his existence to know this much....

"I will give you one chance." Caldron said, taking out his spear. "Surrender yourself."

[Foxdrift.]

Akamir didn’t bother replying as he dashed towards him.

The moment the skill activated, his figure blurred.

The wind wrapped around him, twisting like threads as he rushed forward, sword drawn low.

Caldron didn’t flinch. The elf stepped to the side, spear flicking upward.

Sparks flew as metal clashed with metal.

Akamir pushed off the force and spun mid-air, landing behind him.

"A blue core at such a young age." Caldron commented, noticing his core in one strike. "You have the potential to be the strongest human."

"W-what?"

They both ignored Lucien as Caldron lowered his body. "Sadly, my master wouldn’t like someone like you to live."

His body blurred and he reached Akamir in an instant.

Akamir sidestepped just in time as the spear grazed his hair.

BOOM!!!

A thunderous roar boomed from his strike as Akamir sprawled backwards.

The elf rushed in, determined to not give him any type of leverage to fight back.

Akamir’s left hand thrust forward, palm outward, and a blazing fire scorched the space between them.

Caldron flew backwards, hacking at the fire with his spear, but the blast followed him.

It only stopped when he was a considerable distance from Akamir.

"Give up, boy." He said, slamming the base of his spear on the floor. "You can’t win!"

The spear was rooted on the ground as it began to dig deeper into the soil.

"That’s a branch of the world tree." Nayomi said, floating closely. "Be careful."

Akamir drew in a deep breath as he lowered his body.

He blinked and a clad of purple lightning covered him from head to toe.

The tiles beneath him broke as he rushed towards the elf.

Hundreds of roots burst out of the ground as they began intersecting him.

Akamir didn’t slow down.

The roots shot up in a chaotic web, twisting like snakes trying to drag him down.

Some cracked the tiles underfoot, others aimed straight for his chest.

But the purple lightning around him sparked wildly, crackling against the roots as he moved like a bolt of energy.

He ducked low, sliding beneath a thick branch, and then vaulted over another with ease.

His sword cut through a few roots, but more kept coming.

Caldron watched with narrowed eyes, noticing the speed that was on par with him.

The roots shifted again, reacting to Akamir’s path.

One lashed out like a whip, slamming into his side.

Akamir grunted, the hit throwing off his balance, but he didn’t stop.

Akamir raised his hand and aimed his open palm at Lucien.

A crackle of lightning burst forth, ready to scorch him.

Caldron, thrown off guard, pushed his branches to save him.

That second of distraction was all Akamir needed.

He burst through the last line of roots, sword raised, his figure a blur of lightning and hue of black.

Caldron raised his spear just in time.

Clang!

The impact shook the room.

Akamir pressed forward, pushing Caldron back a few steps.

Suddenly, the roots from earlier began retreating into the ground.

Akamir, sensing something amiss, quickly jumped back as a spike breezed past his face.

He landed on his feet as he looked at the elf, still perfect in shape.

Caldron stood tall, eyes glowing faintly green now.

"You’ve passed the warm-up."

He raised his hand, and the spear glowed with runes in response.

It curled up and turned into a bow with a string of mana.

Caldron grinned as he made an arrow of twisted mana and pulled the string.

He didn’t waste a second.

The moment the arrow took form, he released it.

Akamir barely had time to move.

The mana bolt tore through the air like a flash of light, slicing past him with a sharp screech and slamming into the far wall.

The explosion that followed cracked stone and sent dust flying across the room.

Akamir shielded his face with his arm as the shockwave hit him.

’That wasn’t normal mana,’ he thought, gritting his teeth. ’It moved like it had a mind of its own.’

Caldron was already preparing another shot.

The bow shimmered again, and this time, three arrows formed at once, hovering above his knuckles.

Akamir braced himself.

He activated [Foxdrift] again, his figure flickering just as the arrows were released.

They split apart mid-air, adjusting course in real-time.

They were tracking him.

Akamir jumped to the side, flipping over a pillar.

One arrow hit the floor where he had just stood, the second pierced through the column, and the third missed by a breath, slicing through his collarbone.

He landed and rolled, panting slightly.

"This is starting to get annoying," he muttered, feeling his mana depleting at an alarming rate.

Nayomi appeared beside him, looking at the elf.

"He’s using soul-bound mana," she said. "His arrows can follow your core signature."

"How do I stop it?"

"You don’t. You just stay unpredictable."

Akamir narrowed his eyes.

"Easier said than done."

From across the room, Caldron raised his bow again, but this time, the bow twisted in his hands and unfolded back into the spear.

He rushed forward again.

Akamir braced himself as he raised his sword.

The elf smirked as he blurred at the last second.

"Argh!"

Pain shot through Akamir’s shoulder, making him scream.

Caldron’s wooden spear, now stained with blood, knocked aside his weapon and drove through his shoulder.

Akamir grabbed the spear’s shaft with his free hand and used it as leverage to kick him in the chest, sending him spinning away.

The spear was ripped off his shoulder, making him clench his wound.

’It only took my flesh, my collarbone is fine.’

Akamir assessed his condition before he looked at the elf.

"Give up, Asher." He said, wiping off the blood from his spear. "Your working hand is completely damaged."

Akamir didn’t reply as he licked off the blood that trailed down his hand.

’Looks like I can’t win against him alone.’

Still, Akamir now had a clear idea about how strong he is now.

Now...

’It’s time to end this.’

He drew in a deep breath as the elf rushed in once again.

A crown slowly conjured over his head, illuminating the place with crimson.

Six different portals began to form all around him.

"Stop!!"

The elf yelled, feeling a deep-rooted fear as he ran even faster.

But...

It was too late.

Tens of different, abnormal creatures rushed out of the portal.

Their bodies twisted and broken, some with four legs and arms, some without faces.

They all attacked the elf in an instant.

Caldron barely had a second to react.

The creatures poured out from the portals like a flood of nightmares.

He spun his spear, cutting down the first few that came close.

One lunged from above, its jaw unhinging unnaturally wide.

Caldron ducked and drove his spear upward, pinning it midair.

It screeched before dissolving into black mist and soon returned back to fight again.

Another charged from the side.

He spun again, slashing through its torso. But for every one he cut down, two more took its place.

"What... are these things?" Caldron muttered, stepping back.

His breaths were sharp, arms moving on instinct.

"You said I couldn’t win," Akamir said, voice calm. "You were right. Alone, I couldn’t."

More and more began to rush in from the portal, completely overthrowing him.

The elf tried to cut them down but it was all over when one of them got a hold of his hand.

"ARGHHH!!!"

He screamed at the top of his lungs as the mimicker began to eat him alive.

One more jumped at him and more and more.

In just a few seconds, he was being eaten alive by hundreds of them.

"Stop." Akamir said, making everyone halt. "Go back."

The mimickers complied without a word; they all rushed back to the portal.

One of them stopped in front of him and coughed out a ring.

’A space ring, huh?’

Akamir picked it up and placed it in his pocket.

He then looked at what was left of the elf.

He was eaten completely down to his torso, one hand mangled while the other was gone.

Akamir walked towards him and picked up his spear.

"It was a good fight." He said, ignoring his glare.

Akamir would have asked for his final wish, but the mimicker had already chewed his lips and tongue.

He lowered the spear tip on his throat, taking his life.

’Rest in peace, elf.’

Akamir thought before he fully turned towards... him.

The terrified prince frozen in place.

Akamir smiled genuinely. "Lucien."
