Chapter 324: Meeting the Voss family 3

Braelyn’s POV

I was not exaggerating. The men of the Voss family were undeniably good-looking. In that sense, they were not much different from the Volkov family.

One of the younger men suddenly stood up from his chair.

He looked no older than nineteen or twenty, with bleached blond hair and the same deep obsidian eyes that Dad also had, a main Voss family trait. His posture was relaxed like someone who had not yet been fully crushed by adult responsibilities.

He stepped forward and frowned slightly as he looked at me. "I thought she was supposed to be my aunt," he said bluntly. "She looks the same age as Derek," he added with a serious expression, probably not understanding why he had such a young aunt.

The room erupted with a few quiet chuckles. Before I could even react, another man walked up behind him and smacked him lightly on the back of the head.

"Ouch," Javier whined.

"Respect your elders, Javier."

Javier rubbed the back of his head and muttered something under his breath but wisely kept the complaint to himself.

The man who had scolded him then stepped forward towards me. He offered his hand politely.

"I apologise for my son’s behaviour," he said calmly. "He grew up surrounded by his rude brothers and unfortunately learned very little about proper manners." He roasted poor Javier, who had a look of injustice on his face.

His lips curved into a small smile when he faced me. "My name is Vincent," he said, giving me his hand.

My breath caught slightly. Vincent was supposed to be my cousin, but the moment I looked at him properly I froze. He was in his late forties or early fifties, a few years younger than Elliot, I presumed.

For a second I thought I was looking at my father. The resemblance between them was uncanny. Douglas might have looked similar to my father in photographs, but Vincent looked almost like his twin.

I stared at his hand for a moment and then, recalling the smile I had missed on my father, I slowly accepted his handshake.

"You look like my dad," I blurted out without thinking. My voice cracked and my eyes stung a little. I blinked to fight the tears.

Vincent laughed warmly. "My grandparents used to say the exact same thing," he replied.

His tone softened as he gestured towards the rest of the table. "You do not need to be nervous. Everyone here has been very curious to meet you," he said, leading me towards the table.

The entire table greeted me with warm smiles. Margaret took her time introducing me one by one to everyone in the family, including the three great-grandsons and their wives.

Apparently, aside from Elliot and Vincent’s wives, among the grandsons only two were married. Elliot’s eldest son Dominic Voss was one of them, whom I knew a bit too well.

He was the one who led the Voss negotiation of the same deal Raphael had given to Amelia. They wanted to set up a research centre in the country then.

Normally, the Volkov and Voss families did not trade, but to please Amelia he went out of his way to secure it, only for the deal to crash and be stolen by Lucien. The married man Raphael was insecure about was technically my nephew.

Dominic gave me a polite smile. "I guess I should call you Aunt Lynn from now on, Mrs Volkov," Dominic teased.

A laugh slipped out and my hand covered my mouth. "Braelyn is fine or just Lynn. You are older than me anyway."

Dominic laughed it off.

A lovely lady with chestnut hair beside him chirped in, "I have heard a lot about you, Mrs Volkov. I never imagined we would be family." She was Dominic’s wife.

"Life is unpredictable," I chimed.

The introductions took a while and Margaret tried to help me remember as much as I could.

Elliot’s wife’s name was Francesca. She was an elegant lady with a good sense of humour, nothing like Natalia at all. His other sons were Alexander, who was still single and the second son. He was a young noble prize medical researcher. Then there was Kyle, the youngest, who was a renowned medical specialist and was also engaged to a quiet girl named Heaven.

All of Elliot’s sons and their partners were older than me. Elliot’s grandchildren were memorable, especially the youngest one who was three and a little troublemaker, while the elder one, who was also the eldest great-grandson, was six years old. He was reserved in contrast to his brother. Unfortunately, I could not remember the little boys’ names. There was too much information. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

My poor brain.

As for Vincent, his eldest son was the only one married. He was around the same age as Raphael. His name was Eric and he had a boy around two years old, while his wife was pregnant. He was his father’s successor in the mining and manufacturing business, which was much larger than what Margaret had explained.

It was a popular business name. I had no idea it was related to the Voss family before now because the business still carried Margaret’s maiden family name.

His second son was Derek, whom Javier had mentioned. He was the same age as me and was the funniest in the family. Derek was the CEO of a tech start-up that was about to go public. From the look of things, he was quite successful and did not want to rely on the family.

Tristan was Vincent’s third son. He was a senior manager in Vincent’s company. He had worked from the bottom to his current position. He was disciplined but not really ambitious. He just wanted to support the family.

Javier was the youngest. Apparently, he was just nineteen and already in medical school with his bleached hair. Javier was very smart but also a slacker.

There was also Charlotte, Vincent’s wife.

It turned out most of the present generation of the Voss family wasn’t like their father’s who got married as early as 20

Breakfast was a bit of chaos with the entire family together, but not chaos in a bad way.

It was the type of chaos that made you laugh while seeing people simply being themselves. The Voss family was not pretentious like the Volkovs. If they were, then this was a family of very good actors.

Breakfast was pleasant. I almost forgot all the suffocating meals I had shared with Raphael. I laughed at jokes and tried not to mix up names. They asked questions, genuinely curious about me, including the in laws, most of whom avoided sensitive topics.

That was until Javier asked a question that made the table go silent.

"What about your husband, Lynn? I heard you were married."

His voice did not carry any hidden agenda, but the table went silent. At least Vincent and Elliot had an idea about my marriage.

There was also Dominic, who thought Amelia was Raphael’s wife.

All eyes were on me, waiting for my reply.
