Counterfeit Hero-Chapter 706 - 85: The Decisive Battle of Puluo Town (Part 1)_4
At the intersection of Puluo First Avenue, nearly a hundred Black Mecha stood ready along their defensive line.
It was obvious that this defensive line had been meticulously strategized.
The sturdy pavement of the nearly 300-meter-wide Puluo First Avenue had been crushed by the Mechas, creating deep trenches. On both sides of the street, slanted infantry trenches were also dug, with countless sandbags piled in front. Behind the dirty sandbags were makeshift bulletproof metal walls anchored into the ground.
Some Mechas had their broken external armor removed and spread in the trenches. Various old-fashioned firearms and weapons were set up on the sandbags or piled in the trenches like an exhibition. However, these infantry defenses were now evidently useless.
The bank building on the left side of the intersection and the Dellphine Commercial Center Building on the right had been turned into elevated fire points. These massive structures, supported by alloy frames and made of high-strength concrete and steel, had become natural fortresses, comparable in size to two Space Carriers. Although they didn't have energy shields, it would still take thirty to fifty rounds from an 800mm caliber Destroyer main cannon to destroy them.
Unfortunately, these fortresses couldn't accommodate Mechas. Their usefulness in such battles was limited to a few infantrymen harassing with Portable Missiles. Given human speed, once someone shows up at a window, they are unlikely to escape the Mechas' targeting and shelling—the building's structure may be solid, but the windows are not designed to withstand cannon fire.
The decisive moment had finally arrived.
Kodell let out a long breath, satisfied that the battle hadn't deviated from his expectations.
Throughout his journey, he had gained a deep understanding of the enemy's combat capabilities. Their forces not only had Eighth Generation Military Mechas that could suppress the Fire Element but also possessed highly disruptive electronic mechas. Coordinated actions, fierce close combat, remote firepower, and high mobility—if it weren't confirmed that the enemy only had about a hundred or so Mechas, Kodell would have never dared to continue the attack.
Now, the enemy had been entirely confined to Puluo First Avenue. Multiple reconnaissance missions indicated that apart from the hundred or so Black Mechas, there were no other forces around Puluo Town. As for the few hundred Private Mechas and Mech Knights at the Tai Sect Puluo Branch, Kodell paid them no mind at all.
The trend in modern warfare towards close combat is predicated on evenly matched long-range attack and defense capabilities of the Mechas. The Mech Knights of the Free World may excel in close-combat control over ordinary Mechanical Warriors, but on the battlefield, Private Mechas without energy shields and high-strength protective armor are simply no match for Military Mechas.
This disparity only widens with numbers. A hundred Military Mechas may lose a third in eliminating a hundred Private Mechas, but a thousand Military Mechas equipped with sustained long-range strike capability could annihilate a thousand Private Mechas with less than five percent losses.
Without energy shields, even a War God couldn't remain unharmed amidst overwhelming bombardment.
The enemy Commander clearly understood this well. Aside from the hundred or so Black Mechas under his command, he had not deployed any other forces.
Kodell glanced at the Combat Staff waiting silently for his orders in front of the Command Mecha control platform and smiled slightly. All the enemy's cards were now laid out before him. The outcome of this battle was worth looking forward to, especially the capture of the electronic mechas! 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖
Kodell waved his hand lightly.
Zhang Kai gasped desperately, as if only this way could he get enough oxygen!
Everyone around him was doing the same.
The Red Mechas launched their attack. Almost instantly, the artillery from two advancing formations turned Puluo Town into a chaotic, indistinguishable world.
The thunderous roar of shelling echoed across the sky, making hearts race and blood boil. Every building in Puluo Town shook violently under the extreme shockwaves, windows clanged, and tables and chairs vibrated and shifted rapidly. Pictures on the walls and items on the tables fell and crashed to the ground. People had to cling desperately to something to avoid being knocked over.
Zhang Kai clung to the ground, holding onto a camera tripod. He no longer cared about what the camera was capturing; he only knew that the sky above Puluo Town had turned blood-red!
