Contract Marriage: Billionaire and His Deaf Wife-Chapter 998: Escape from Death (Part 9)
He opened the drawer beside the bed and took out the syringe inside.
Gu Nuan took a deep breath, watching him draw some liquid into the syringe.
She didn’t know what that liquid was.
Then he began to grab one of her arms, pulled up her sleeve, tied her arm with a rubber band, exposing the veins hidden under the skin, as the needle of the syringe pierced into her vein.
Gu Nuan indeed felt a slight tremor at that moment.
After connecting the syringe to the plasma bag, he turned back to look at her face, seeing her expression very calm, as if no matter what he did to her, she would not be surprised. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦
"Thank you for saving me," Gu Nuan said.
The person seemed to narrow his eyes in response to her extremely calm voice.
"Can you tell me what I should call you?" Gu Nuan asked, her voice still very calm.
The man had a flicker in his eyes beneath the black helmet.
Perhaps he was pondering how to answer her question.
"His name is Neo, Miss Gu."
A childish voice interjected.
Gu Nuan looked over and saw on the other side of the room, the door to the warehouse had opened, and a boy bounced in with a toy airplane, the same boy she had met before—Anthony.
After Anthony walked in and saw her appearance, his originally bright smile immediately faded, his worried gaze looking at her pale complexion and the bloodstains on her pants.
"Neo, what happened to her?"
Neo took off the black helmet from his head.
Expecting to see his true face, it was surprising that underneath the helmet, he still wore a black hood that covered him thoroughly.
Only his thick black hair, like a dense forest or black seaweed, remained visible, beautiful yet mysterious.
Gu Nuan stared at the ends of his hair, slightly curled.
Her eyes were fixed unwaveringly on his hair.
Anthony seemed not to notice her gaze, nor Neo’s reaction, only worriedly said, "She seems to have lost blood, shouldn’t she be sent to the hospital?"
His words didn’t elicit a response from Neo.
Instead, the door he had just exited from beeped open again, revealing the Duchess of Duke Castle, Melissa, seated in a wheelchair.
Gu Nuan couldn’t help but think: had she escaped one trap only to fall into another?
Anthony helped his great-grandmother by pushing the wheelchair to Gu Nuan’s bedside.
Melissa observed a circle around Gu Nuan’s face and said, "You are very lucky."
"Did you think I would die?" Gu Nuan asked.
A smile appeared at the corners of Melissa’s lips, "Weren’t you betting that I wouldn’t let you die?"
Gu Nuan said nothing, seemingly unwilling to comment. The bet between her and Melissa had actually ended last time. Melissa had spared her.
Melissa sat in the wheelchair, intertwining her wrinkled hands, and said, "You are a clever woman, very clever. I told you that last time. So the reason I saved you is only one thing, which you should clearly understand."
Gu Nuan lowered her eyes slightly, "This is just an old lady wishing for her grandson to come home, nothing to do with me."
"Anyway, Haoran listens to you. Before, no matter what I said, he wouldn’t listen to me. He naturally resents me. Even though I feel there’s not much difference between us. But men’s eyes are always blind, they only see what the women they love prefer, and they are willing to sacrifice everything for her. This is love."
"I think you’re misunderstanding something, Madam. I am just Mr. Zhuang’s investment consultant, besides, I have a husband."
Melissa’s fingers casually tapped on her hand, "Do you think your husband is still alive?"
"He is alive."
"Yet he hasn’t come to see you until now."
Gu Nuan squinted slightly, "What happens between my husband and me will not be interfered with by anyone, nor will it be disturbed by any intentional scheme."
These words undoubtedly stirred a feeling of anger and embarrassment in the Duchess.
"Fine, then wait here. I really want to see what kind of man your husband is, whether he is as outstanding as my grandson."
Gu Nuan’s voice was calm and certain: "He will come, even if he has to crawl to my side."
Melissa immediately turned her wheelchair and left the room.
Anthony looked at his great-grandmother, then at Gu Nuan, clearly caught in a dilemma.
"Neo, take care of her here, I’ll go check on the Duchess," Anthony eventually decided.
Neo had already returned beside his beloved black motorcycle, squatting down as if inspecting it, seemingly not hearing Anthony’s words.
Anthony hurriedly left.
As the door closed, only Gu Nuan and him were left in the room.
Gu Nuan looked at the back of the person squatting on the ground, watched for a while, then closed her eyes.
As if hearing the sound of her falling asleep, the man squatting in front of the motorcycle slowly turned back, his gaze lingering on her face.
