Consequences of Dumping the Obsessive Boss: Stuck with Him Forever-Chapter 268: You Actually Want to Stay By My Side
"What can’t be done?" Maxim Sinclair looked at him, "Justin Huxley is about to take Summer Lowell away, and the only way to stop Justin now is to inform the Huxley Family about what he’s done so they can deal with him."
"This step wasn’t in the plan we previously set," Charles Jenson snatched Assistant Collins’ phone and reminded Maxim Sinclair, "We’ve been setting this up for so long, we can’t let it fail now! If you reveal everything right now, the impact on the Huxley Family will be greatly reduced, far from what we estimated."
Maxim Sinclair stood up abruptly and walked to Charles Jenson, "But if I don’t stop Justin today, Summer Lowell will be sent abroad by him. Will I still have a chance to find Summer later?"
With a slightly mocking smile, Maxim continued, "And don’t forget, Dr. Sullivan is good friends with Summer Lowell. If Summer leaves Stellarion, Dr. Sullivan will probably resign and leave soon too. Without my lady, you’ll have to accompany me."
Charles Jenson, hearing this, couldn’t help but smile wryly, "Chairman, I understand your concerns. How about we wait and see? There are other ways to stop Justin without playing our trump card right at the start!"
During their argument, Section Chief Grant called again, "Sir, Madam doesn’t seem willing to leave with Justin Huxley. It appears he’s trying to force her, but she managed to shake him off with a friend’s help and went home."
Charles Jenson, standing nearby, also heard what Section Chief Grant said over the phone.
"This is great," Charles burst into laughter, turning to Assistant Collins, "You don’t need to send that information to the Huxley Family members now. Miss Lowell herself refused Justin."
"Impossible! After all the trouble she went through, wasn’t it just to wait for this moment to leave me?" Maxim Sinclair was puzzled, "Now with the opportunity right in front of her, how could she willingly give it up?"
Neither Charles Jenson nor Assistant Collins had an answer to this question.
Maxim Sinclair ultimately decided to return home and see Summer Lowell to ask her what she really meant.
Meanwhile, after Summer Lowell shook off Justin Huxley, she asked the butler to arrange a driver to take Vivian Sullivan back to the hospital. She had to work later and couldn’t afford a delay. 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞
In the early autumn evening, the cool breeze was refreshing, but after blowing for a while, it could even feel a bit cold.
Just as Summer was hesitating about going upstairs to get a jacket, a coat with the steady scent of wood was draped over her shoulders.
The owner of the coat also sat beside her, "Why’d you come down to catch the breeze without a jacket? It’s not summer now; temperatures drop low around here at night."
Summer looked at the loose and oversized coat on her, "Just get to the point."
"Do you really want to leave me that badly? I thought that when you were forced to steal confidential information from me, it was the thing you regretted most; I believed, given your character, you wouldn’t do it again."
Summer was surprised as she looked at him, not expecting he knew the real reason she stole the information back then.
Then she thought, someone like Maxim Sinclair, a man born to lead, would certainly wonder why someone would choose a document over his wife that didn’t promise much reward.
It wasn’t surprising he’d investigate out of curiosity.
"For freedom, everything can be forsaken," Summer altered an old saying and laughed nonchalantly, "So sure it was me, it seems you’ve got solid evidence. Are you planning to send me to the police?"
"Of course not. As the head of the Sinclair Group, what would it look like if my wife spent time in jail? But since it’s you, I’d want you no matter what, though I can’t bear to see you suffer in a cell." Maxim said, gently tucking Summer’s stray lock behind her ear.
His actions were incredibly tender, yet Summer felt only fear, not daring to dodge.
Maxim noticed her unease and deliberately moved closer, "What are you afraid of? You look like I’m going to strangle you any second."
"With your clever tactics and superior intelligence, it’s no wonder I’m scared," Summer was eager to know what he’d do to her, "So what is it? Are you really not going to turn me in?"
"I said I wouldn’t, so I definitely won’t," Maxim crossed his legs and took Summer’s hand. "Look at this house of mine, the garden alone is so big. Punishing you here is much better than any jail cell. You’d choose this place over the cell too, wouldn’t you?"
"Judging by the environment alone, your place is indeed better," Summer understood his intentions. "After all, it’s not the first time you’ve kept me confined."
"I’m glad you can adapt so quickly."
If it were before, Maxim would certainly be smiling while talking, but today, there wasn’t even a hint of a smile on his face.
Summer eyed him coldly, guessing that this time his business took quite a hit.
Her dreams of freedom shattered, Summer’s resentment had nowhere to go, and the one right before her was ready to release it upon, "Justin bit down hard on you this time, didn’t he?"
"It’s alright, only a somewhat promising piece of land, but Justin Huxley hasn’t seen good things. Worst case, let him have it," Maxim appeared indifferent, "But what’s most annoying about him is his ambition towards you."
"I’m not involved with him, nor will I ever be. Business is business, and personal is personal. Don’t use me to settle personal scores," Summer purposefully provoked him. Since she’d be dealing with his torment for a while, she wasn’t naturally the submissive type. "How does it feel to have someone you look down on snatch things away twice?"
"I’m furious and want to get rid of him as soon as possible," Maxim was brutally honest about his feelings, "What about you? Hearing I want to take down your senior, does it pain you? Do you want to warn him right now?"
"I’m sorry, I don’t plan to. I only did one deal with him, nothing more. I don’t want to be involved with your families’ matters," Summer turned her gaze away with a cold expression, "If I had known your families were like this, I would’ve stayed far from you both from the start."
"Too late for regrets now," Maxim laughed, wrapping his arm around her shoulders, "I’ve already arranged everything. Justin Huxley can’t get near here again, and don’t count on him to get you out."
Summer said nothing; she had already anticipated this.
"There’s something I find curious. Justin Huxley specifically came by to take you, why didn’t you go with him? Summer, what are you hesitating about?" Maxim turned her face to meet his gaze, "Deep down, you want to stay by my side, don’t you? Can you admit it?"
