Consequences of Dumping the Obsessive Boss: Stuck with Him Forever-Chapter 265: This Time, Consider It Repaying Your Past Kindness
At the bottom of the staircase, Summer Lowell stopped, and as if guided by some unseen force, turned back to glance at the study on the second floor. Just as she turned, she saw Assistant Collins’s figure entering the room.
This scene was also observed by the group monitoring from the attic on the top floor. 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶
Section Chief Grant took out his phone and sent a message.
In the study, Maxim Sinclair looked at the just-received message and raised his head to ask Assistant Collins, "Did you run into my wife just now?"
Assistant Collins nodded, "The lady was holding a cup, looking sleepy. Probably woke up thirsty, going downstairs for a drink."
"It’s only nine thirty, she shouldn’t be sleeping so early. Normally, she’d be watching a movie or reading at this time," Maxim gently tapped the document in front of him, looked at Assistant Collins with a smile after a moment, "Bored? Let’s make a bet; I bet she’ll come in later."
Assistant Collins, who was there to play a part today, looked at Maxim, whose face displayed a smile but showed icy coldness in his eyes, and shook his head in disagreement, "The lady seemed very tired. She’d probably head back to sleep after getting her water."
"Didn’t you speak with her?"
"I did," Assistant Collins nodded and emphasized, "I told her everything as instructed, but she didn’t seem to care much about what I said."
"You can’t see whether she cares on the surface. After all, she’s an adult and even managed to take something from me back then, so she has some composure."
Just as Maxim finished speaking, the study door was pushed open by Summer Lowell from outside.
Summer was holding a tray with two bowls and a glass of water on it.
As Maxim had guessed, she brought the bowl to the desk, "The soup’s still warm in the kitchen. I had a bowl just now, it’s quite good, so I brought some for you too."
"How thoughtful of you," Maxim smiled tenderly, bringing the bowl to himself, and spoke to Summer with concern, "I thought you went to bed early. Did you wake up again?"
"I slept in too late this morning, so not very sleepy now. Felt bored tossing and turning, thought of coming to the study to read," Summer handed a bowl to Assistant Collins and took the glass of water herself, "Leave the bowls here when you’re done; I’ll clean up."
"No need, you just read your book. I’ll take care of these," Maxim smiled, telling Assistant Collins, who was silently holding the bowl, "Hurry up and finish it; we’ll continue our discussion after."
A few steps away, after reading for a while, Summer seemed to encounter something puzzling. She pulled out her phone, appearing to check something against the book.
Assistant Collins stole several glances, only to be warned off by Maxim, opposite him.
After glaring at him, Maxim too looked up at Summer by the window, maintaining an even tone they could hear, "Three more minutes. Remind them again, the online meeting starts in three minutes."
Summer, flipping through pages by the window, momentarily paused, then nonchalantly turned to the next page, seemingly immersed in the content.
In another residence across most of the city from Varden Villa, Justin Huxley was discussing with four or five subordinates how to snatch the Verdane land from Maxim Sinclair.
The discussion was intense when suddenly Justin’s phone rang. He looked up to scan the surroundings, shushed them, and answered, only not initiating conversation.
Cameron Young, observing nearby and guessing something, took out his phone and sent a group message, advising those present to keep quiet.
Soon, under the watchful eyes of all, Maxim Sinclair’s voice came through the phone.
In the study at Varden Villa, Summer gauged the timing was right, cut off the call with Justin Huxley, turned off the phone, and left the study with a long yawn and soft footsteps.
As she exited the study, Maxim raised a hand immediately to silence the "diligent discussion" from company executives on the computer screen.
Assistant Collins glanced at his phone, calmly stating, "Section Chief Grant confirmed that during our meeting, the lady called Justin Huxley."
"Ha, as expected," Maxim opened a drawer, retrieving a cigarette he hadn’t touched in ages, then Assistant Collins provided a lighter for him.
"Isn’t it possible that the lady holds something against Justin Huxley or that she’s being threatened," Assistant Collins tentatively suggested, attempting to provide Summer with a plausible excuse.
"There’s no need to strain yourself finding excuses for Summer. She simply wants to leave me. But I’ll make sure she understands that even with Justin Huxley’s help times ten, she won’t leave my side. As for Justin, I’ll make him understand not to mess with me."
In the bedroom, Summer clutched her phone tightly, standing by the window, idly staring outside.
Suddenly, she noticed a light flash downstairs, and upon a closer look, saw it was Assistant Collins.
He must have just finished discussing something with Maxim Sinclair and was about to head home.
Before Assistant Collins reached the door, the butler caught up with him. They exchanged words, and Assistant Collins turned back to follow him inside.
It seemed Maxim had the butler call him back, possibly because their discussion wasn’t over.
Apparently, the Verdane land Justin mentioned really was important, but it no longer concerned her.
The call just now essentially shared all the information Justin wanted to know.
This was the last time, merely repaying the debt for saving her back then. From now on, she owed him nothing.
As for Maxim Sinclair...
It would probably become even more entangled from here on!
"Why are you standing at the window in a daze in the middle of the night?"
Startled, Summer turned around to see Maxim Sinclair, who just entered, and asked, "You’re done?"
"Yes," Maxim nodded, "It’s already late, you should check the time. Little Chris wanted to go home just now, but I asked the butler to stop him. He’s going to stay here tonight, so we can head to the company together in the morning."
With that, Maxim pinched his shoulders and headed to the bathroom. Seeing this, Summer put her things down and hurried back to bed, pretending to sleep first.
When Maxim finished his shower, he found Summer wrapped in the blanket, lying with her back to him, seemingly asleep for a while.
"Can you really fall asleep just during my shower?" Maxim asked, flipping open the covers and getting into bed himself, pulling Summer into his arms, "Have I ever told you, your pretending to sleep is always easy for me to notice?"
