Chapter 261: Chapter 261: Is Summer Lowell Really Planning to Collaborate with Justin Huxley?

The woman with the high ponytail is Section Chief Grant, who oversees this room full of special talents.

Section Chief Grant reached out and tapped him on the head: "Don’t talk nonsense. This is the gentleman’s instruction. There seems to be some misunderstanding between Mr. and Mrs. so far, it hasn’t been clarified, otherwise things wouldn’t be like this."

"No matter how big the misunderstanding is, you can’t team up with outsiders to harm your partner!" The man was still unconvinced. "Our gentleman cares so much about the lady, and now she’s pulled a stunt like this, so disheartening!"

"It’s not your place to feel disheartened." Section Chief Grant hit him on the back, "Be honest, follow the gentleman’s instructions obediently. If our negligence causes the lady to fall into danger, we’ll all lose our jobs!"

Though filled with resentment, everyone understood that Section Chief Grant’s words made sense.

After a brief discussion about Maxim Sinclair’s turbulent love life, everyone returned to work.

Section Chief Grant looked at the copied recording in his hand, sighed softly, and went aside to call Assistant Collins.

Coincidentally, Assistant Collins was still in the chairman’s office, discussing matters with Maxim Sinclair.

When the call came in, Assistant Collins glanced at the caller ID and explained to Maxim, who was sitting opposite: "It’s a call from home, from Section Chief Grant."

Being able to call at this time, there’s a fifty percent chance... this call is related to Summer Lowell.

Maxim lightly raised his chin: "Put it on speaker."

"Okay," Assistant Collins turned on the speaker and put the call on speakerphone, "Section Chief, why are you calling me at this time?"

"Assistant Collins, is the gentleman next to you?"

Section Chief Grant’s tone sounded somewhat anxious.

Maxim tapped his fingers on his knee and silently shook his head at Assistant Collins. 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶

Assistant Collins got the hint: "It’s okay, go ahead, no need to be so cautious."

He didn’t answer directly to avoid getting blamed by Section Chief Grant later.

Section Chief Grant, with the call in mind, didn’t catch the hint in Assistant Collins’s words.

"I tell you, Justin Huxley called the lady again, talked about collaboration, and even arranged to meet her. I’ve got the phone recording ready. Ask the gentleman if he wants me to send it over now."

Assistant Collins secretly thought things were bad, lifted his head to look at Maxim, waiting for his response.

Maxim stayed silent for about a dozen seconds before directly instructing: "Send the phone recording to me now."

Section Chief Grant then realized Maxim was right there and quickly responded: "Okay, sir. Should I send it to your phone or Assistant Collins?"

"Send it directly to my phone." Maxim got up to his desk and brought his phone. The recording Section Chief Grant mentioned had already been sent.

Maxim increased the volume and played the recording in front of Assistant Collins.

Assistant Collins listened silently, inwardly distressed.

Earlier, while discussing the Verdane land with Maxim, Maxim joked that he was sure Justin Huxley would contact Summer again within three days and could get Summer to steal some information.

Afraid Maxim would feel upset, Assistant Collins had spoken a few good words for Summer.

Not long after the conversation, Section Chief Grant delivered a recording of Summer agreeing to another meeting.

Assistant Collins glanced secretly at Maxim, guessing what he was feeling at that moment.

Investing wholeheartedly in someone only to have them side with your rival, planning how to deal with you.

No one in this position would be happy, right?

Maxim listened to the call recording repeatedly. Noting Maxim’s obvious emotional turmoil, Assistant Collins contemplated whether he should call a private doctor or leave now to provide Maxim a space to vent his emotions.

While hesitating, Maxim ceased replaying the phone recording and instructed, "Bring the documents I had you prepare earlier; I need to take them home after work tonight. Also, those few people we discussed, make sure to visit me tonight."

"Okay, but... Justin Huxley just scheduled another meeting with the lady; it’s not confirmed they will actually collaborate. Should we wait and see?"

"No need, Justin Huxley is determined, and he’ll try every possible way to force Summer to cooperate with him." Maxim placed the recording into his dedicated folder. "Don’t hang onto illusions. Summer will definitely work with him. I know both of them very well."

There was no emotion in Maxim’s voice, yet Assistant Collins felt his heart sink.

...

When Maxim arrived at Varden Villa, Summer was just having dinner.

Seeing him arrive, Summer instinctively lifted her head to speak, but recalling what he did last night, she lowered her head again.

Maxim noticed her action from the corner of his eye, withdrew his gaze with mixed feelings, and for the first time, did not approach her to greet her but headed straight upstairs.

The maid who witnessed Maxim’s gloomy face returning to the bedroom yesterday noticed this scene and hurried to describe it to the housekeeper.

The housekeeper listened and felt worried. After a moment of hesitation, he called for Maxim to come down for dinner, went upstairs to find Maxim in the bedroom while he was changing clothes.

"Young Master, dinner is hot and ready. Young Madam is also eating. Won’t you come down to accompany her?"

Maxim took off his suit and found some comfortable home wear, quickly changing into it. "Did Summer have any unusual behavior today?"

"No, she’s just as usual," the housekeeper thought Maxim was concerned about Summer and smiled. "But Young Madam got up quite late today, only woke up for lunch around noon. At this rate, those supplements and tonics won’t take effect! Maybe you should talk to her, ask her not to stay up late anymore."

The housekeeper’s words reminded Maxim of what he did to Summer last night.

Maxim showed a trace of regret, turned his back to the housekeeper, not letting him see his expression: "I know, I’ll make sure to remind her later."

"Aren’t you going downstairs to eat?" The housekeeper intended to help repair their relationship subtly.

Maxim understood what he meant, and bitterly smiled: "I’ll go down once I change."

Downstairs, Summer watched as Maxim returned to sit opposite her, subconsciously tightening her grip on the chopsticks.

Maxim’s gaze swept over her pale, delicate right hand, which showed the veins due to force. He gently reminded, "Careful not to hurt your hand, it’s a designer’s hand. If it gets injured, drawing won’t be easy afterward."

With his reminder, Summer finally realized and loosened her grip.
