Chapter 235: Chapter 235: Summer Lowell Hides the Truth from Justin Huxley

"What did you talk about with your good buddy?" Summer Lowell looked at him with a wary expression, "And why didn’t you let Vivian stay? Clearly, there are so many rooms in this mansion."

"Why are you getting upset all of a sudden?" Maxim Sinclair took Summer’s hand and led the reluctant person outside the conservatory. "You saw during dinner. Dr. Sullivan and Charles Jenson clearly have an unusual relationship. Charles also told me he’s pursuing Dr. Sullivan now. Maybe he’s planning a surprise for her tonight, so when he saw you asking her to stay, he got anxious."

"What you say does make some sense, but why don’t I believe it?" Summer still looked suspicious. "You and your President Jennings, you two are just birds of a feather."

"You can judge however you like," Maxim Sinclair seemed indifferent. "Anyway, I haven’t been a good guy in front of you for a long time; it doesn’t matter anymore!"

Somehow, this sentence hit Summer’s funny bone.

She laughed the whole way, attracting confused looks from the butler who was talking to someone in the living room.

Before going to sleep.

Maxim Sinclair suddenly turned around, hugged the reclining Summer: "If you miss your friend, you can invite her over more often; it’s been a while since I’ve seen you this happy."

"If you really want to make me happy, why not just let me go? I’ll stay with Vivian. That would make me even happier."

"That’s impossible," Maxim Sinclair refused bluntly. "Don’t even think about it. I won’t agree to it."

"I knew it. You saying you want to make me happy is just empty words."

"You know where my boundaries are, so it’s best not to cross them," Maxim Sinclair said, tucking the blanket around her. "Keeping things as they are now is best. If you miss Dr. Sullivan, invite her over. If you want to go out, you can, but I must accompany you. As for the rest... it’s best to give up on those thoughts sooner."

Summer threw off the blanket Maxim Sinclair had tucked around her and sat up, glaring at him coldly: "What am I to you, really? Just a possession you can’t let go of? I don’t even have basic freedom here. How dare you even hope to start over with me?"

"Releasing you now would be too dangerous. Before freedom, I must ensure your safety." Maxim Sinclair also sat up, forcefully pressing Summer back onto the bed. "Get some sleep; I think you’d choose sleep over any other action."

The next morning.

Maxim Sinclair was called away by the company early in the morning.

For once, with him not at home, Summer felt the air in the house was much fresher.

She planned to take advantage of Maxim Sinclair’s absence and go paint in the studio he set up for her.

Before, Maxim invited her there several times, but Summer refused, not wanting to spend time alone with him.

As soon as Summer brought her tools into the studio, her phone rang in her pocket. Taking it out, she saw it was a call from Justin Huxley.

Since her memory returned, after being brought here, it had been a long time since Summer had contacted Justin Huxley.

She almost forgot that before Tina Huxley’s stupid incident, she had an engagement with Justin Huxley.

Feeling conflicted, Summer answered the call: "Senior, you looking for me?"

"Summer, you’ve regained your memory?" Justin Huxley’s voice was filled with surprise and delight.

Out of some complex psychology and a desire to re-evaluate Justin Huxley, Summer outright denied it: "Not yet. I just got my phone, but I remember your voice, Senior."

Justin Huxley on the other end was skeptical.

He looked at the dossier his subordinates brought.

The photos clipped in the dossier were evidently of Dr. David Dalton, who had recently conducted a body check-up on Summer.

Dr. David Dalton was most famous for helping people recover memories.

But he stayed in Stellarion for only a few days before leaving. If he left so quickly, either Summer’s memories were truly irrecoverable, or... Summer regained her memories but deliberately concealed the fact for some reason.

After some casual chatter, Justin subtly probed: "I heard Maxim Sinclair found a doctor for you. How was it? Did he do anything over the line?"

The tone was full of concern.

But listening, Summer felt it unusually hypocritical.

"Not really, Senior. He found a doctor to help recover my memory some time ago, but I didn’t like the doctor and found a way to send him away. I don’t trust him; I feared he might have bribed the doctor to interfere with my memory recovery." 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺

"I understand your concerns, but I’ve also heard of Dr. David Dalton; indeed, he’s a well-known expert. I wanted to hire him to help regain your memory, but unfortunately, his schedule was full, and I couldn’t invite him," Justin sounded regretful. "I should have put in more effort; maybe then you would’ve remembered sooner."

Seeing he hadn’t addressed the main point, Summer, a bit impatient, urged, "By the way, Senior, why did you call today?"

Hearing this, Justin’s expression immediately darkened.

Summer had changed; when she received his call, she wasn’t even a bit happy and instead asked why he called.

"I’m sorry, Summer. I only just found out yesterday that you were used as a bargaining chip by Tina’s father, my uncle, in a deal with Maxim Sinclair."

Yesterday?

The incident happened almost two weeks ago, and Justin only just found out?

How could that be?

Summer’s eyes showed doubt; thinking about it, she realized what was going on: "Did something happen on your end, Senior?"

Justin sighed long: "My uncle suddenly sent me abroad to handle business. It came so abruptly, I didn’t have time to contact you. By the time I realized something was wrong, you were already with Maxim Sinclair."

From the sound of it, Justin seemed to be giving his alibi.

Summer fell silent, not knowing how to handle the situation at the moment.

Fortunately, Justin on the other end didn’t let her awkwardness linger and quickly spoke again: "I called today to apologize on behalf of the Huxley Family. I regret it. I shouldn’t have brought you back to the country, much less to the Huxley Family. Tina calls me brother, and the mistakes she made should’ve been my responsibility."

"It’s not your fault, Senior. I know who dragged me into this."

Summer spoke, a hint of a sarcastic smile in her eyes, Tina, Justin, you’re all the same!

"Summer, do you hate me?"

"Why would I hate you?" Summer’s tone sounded utterly surprised.
