Chapter 160: Chapter 160: Can We Let Each Other Go?

Justin Huxley looked disapprovingly at Vivian Sullivan, then shook his head at Summer Lowell, reassuring her, "It’s just a normal business competition, and it doesn’t really count as him stealing it. Sinclair Group has such strong influence that few can compete with him. Don’t be angry!"

"How can I not be angry?" Summer Lowell gripped the object on the table fiercely, gritting her teeth, "This scourge, he really seems to be everywhere!"

Justin Huxley deeply agreed with this assessment but maintained his usual elegant image in front of these two people: "It’s really no big deal, just a project. Without this project, I still have other projects. When we negotiate over projects again, I’ll just be more careful and avoid clashing with Maxim Sinclair."

"Constantly avoiding him isn’t a solution either!" Vivian Sullivan also started to fret, "Isn’t there any way to deal with him?"

Justin Huxley smiled and lowered his voice, "There is a way, but it’s not easy to implement."

Seeing that he didn’t want to say more, Summer Lowell and Vivian Sullivan tacitly didn’t press further. After a while, Summer looked up at Justin Huxley: "If there’s anything that you need help with, feel free to ask. After all, I’m staying on his turf now, and although I can’t access important information, I can still help you gather some intel about his whereabouts, but I can’t guarantee complete accuracy."

After speaking, Summer’s face showed a bitter smile; in the end, she still had to resort to this way of sneaking for information. When would she ever truly gain freedom?

"No need, just take care of yourself. I wouldn’t dare ask you to do such things, in case he finds out, you’ll be the one suffering first, and I’d feel even worse about it."

Justin Huxley smiled and shook his head.

Vivian Sullivan looked at the two people and sighed helplessly.

How wonderful would it be if Summer Lowell married Justin Huxley!

The three of them didn’t stay much longer; Vivian Sullivan had just finished her coffee before she received a call to return to the hospital.

Justin Huxley also got called back to the company because of work, leaving Summer Lowell to sit alone in the café for a while before heading to Sinclair Group to find Maxim Sinclair.

Sinclair Group.

Assistant Collins was very surprised to see her arrive and personally went to the main conference room to inform Maxim, and then quickly returned to the lobby to escort Summer Lowell to Maxim Sinclair’s office.

Upon knowing that she was here, Maxim Sinclair hurriedly concluded the meeting and rushed back to his office, "Why suddenly come to me, is there something urgent?"

Summer Lowell glanced at Assistant Collins, who walked in with her, and said to Maxim, "I have something to talk to you about privately."

Assistant Collins wisely exited the room.

"Go ahead, what matter absolutely requires a private conversation with me?" Maxim Sinclair walked over to pour a glass of warm water, handed it to Summer.

Summer Lowell did not take the water, her eyes coldly fixed on him, "Did you retaliate against my senior because of me?"

Having indeed done this, Maxim Sinclair did not immediately speak but instead responded with a question, "Don’t tell me you came to see me today just to talk about this?"

Summer Lowell nodded, "I came to talk about this, I heard the project at my senior’s company got snatched by Sinclair Group, was it arranged by you?"

Maxim Sinclair withdrew his hand and took a sip of water. The smile that hovered in his eyes since he knew Summer was coming vanished without a trace, "If I deny it, would you believe me?"

"Of course not." Summer Lowell laughed sarcastically, "We both know very well what sort of people we are."

"Ha ha, haha," Maxim Sinclair burst into euphoric laughter, his body shaking with amusement, spilling nearly half of the water in the glass he held, "So eager to take care of your senior, does your senior appreciate it? Summer, I didn’t realize you had the potential to be a lackey."

"I don’t need you to worry about it." Summer Lowell, watching his manic laughter, found her eyes growing increasingly distasteful, unable to resist deliberately provoking him verbally, "You’re so resourceful, you must already know my senior has feelings for me; if it weren’t for you forcing me to sign that contract, I might be together with my senior by now."

"I certainly know about this, no need for you to incessantly emphasize and remind." Maxim Sinclair tossed the water glass into the trash bin beside him, approached Summer, pushing her toward the window, pressing down on her shoulders, restraining her movements, "But what good does that do? You are my woman now, and even if you’re with Justin Huxley later on, I will still be an indelible presence in your mind."

His words held truth, and precisely because they were true, Summer Lowell’s sense of defeat and powerlessness felt more overwhelming.

Maxim Sinclair seemed like an impenetrable net, entrapping her firmly, unable to escape no matter what method she used to fight back.

Suddenly, Summer Lowell felt very tired at heart, realizing life is only so; the endless struggle amounted to nothing, it was just this way.

Having had such encounters with Maxim Sinclair, it seemed unlikely she would experience any love she dreamed of in her youth.

Of course, there’s no possibility with youthful admiration for Justin Huxley; even if he is willing to accept her, Summer Lowell cannot pass the barrier in her own heart.

Now she didn’t even dare to face the feelings with Justin Huxley.

Maxim Sinclair looked down at Summer’s expression, somehow a trace of panic rose in his heart, as if this person before him might vanish at any moment.

Having no idea what went wrong, Maxim Sinclair suddenly released his grip, ending his physical restraint on Summer Lowell. Seeing no reaction, he reached out to embrace her. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞

Maxim Sinclair affectionately kissed near her ear a few times and murmured soft words, "Baby, why can’t you just be a little obedient? We clearly can be better; we were so happy together before, why are you so stubborn?"

Summer listened, her gaze blankly staring ahead.

Before?

Does someone who deceives emotions qualify to speak of happiness?

Summer Lowell looked at an ornament on the shelf in the distance, uncontrollably recalling a recurring dream she had these few days. In her dream, it felt like she was trapped in a walled city, she wanted to shout but her throat was tightly held, wanted to escape but couldn’t possibly leave that walled city.

"Ours is a doomed relationship, Maxim Sinclair, you’ve been born a favored child by the heavens, countless women admire you, among which many are well-matched with you. Can’t you just let me go? Letting me go is also freeing yourself, we could each take a step back, and later with vast mountains and seas, wouldn’t each of us have peace?"

"Absolutely not!" Maxim Sinclair tightened the embrace, his voice tinged with fear, "I don’t like hearing such talk, don’t say it again. You obediently stay with me as Mrs. Sinclair; I will lead you to the world you’ve never experienced before, plus I can help you achieve your dreams, only, just don’t leave me!"
