Chapter 141: Chapter 141: She Is the Young Madam of This Family

Once inside the car, Summer Lowell looked at Maxim Sinclair on the other side: "No matter what your intentions are, I hope you won’t pick me up from work again. You know, our two companies are rivals. If you come to pick me up, my boss might misunderstand, which could be detrimental to my job."

"I remember, it’s clearly written in the contract that this is the treatment you deserve as Mrs. Sinclair. Besides, for now, I’m merely picking you up after work, which is nothing. Once our engagement news gets out during this period..."

Maxim paused midway through his sentence, smiling at her without continuing further.

Summer’s face also turned unsightly, and she was silent for a while, staring at Maxim: "We’re just in a contract marriage. President Sinclair, isn’t it unnecessary to hold an engagement ceremony? After a year, when the contract ends and we part ways, wouldn’t that engagement ceremony become a joke? The Sinclair Family, with its immense wealth and influence, should care about its face, right?"

"Not bad, not bad, you’re actually considering me." Maxim chuckled, "However, who can predict what will happen in a year? Maybe by then, you won’t want to leave me. Having an engagement ceremony now can only benefit you, without any harm."

Summer didn’t feel this was beneficial to her at all; she only felt Maxim’s words were deliberately provoking her: "No need, there’s no point in those elaborate procedures. I will fulfill the contract, but as for the so-called engagement ceremony, I refuse."

Seeing she wasn’t joking, Maxim’s expression changed accordingly. After a long while, he smiled ambiguously: "I hope you can still be so bold in a while."

Summer smirked defiantly: "You are President Sinclair, whom everyone in Stellarion wants to cozy up to; who dares to be bold in front of you? I merely ask that President Sinclair shows mercy, and doesn’t pressure me too much."

"Don’t always speak to me like that." Maxim waved his hand brusquely. After a while, he grabbed a document folder from the side and handed it to Summer.

Summer eyed the document folder in front of her warily: "What is this again?"

"I’ve mentioned countless times before, I will give you all the benefits that Mrs. Sinclair deserves. So, I specifically opened a jewelry design studio for you, with the Sinclair Group backing you. You can fully pursue your career and chase your jewelry design dream. Stellart is simply not suitable for you."

"No need, but thank you for your kind offer, President Sinclair. I think my current job is just fine." Summer didn’t take the document but turned her face away. 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢

Seeing her so stubborn, Maxim didn’t say much more, putting the document back: "It’s okay, just because you don’t want it now doesn’t mean you won’t want it later. People do change their minds."

Having spent quite some time with him, Summer keenly sensed a deeper meaning behind his words. She paused and asked him, "What are you up to now?"

"Mrs. Sinclair, you always doubt me, which makes me very sad." Maxim looked at her with a half-smile, "Are you sure you don’t want to accept this gift? I think with your current situation at the company, your position as director shouldn’t last much longer. From what I know, those fools at Stellart can’t stand you and are eager to replace you."

"No need to trouble yourself."

"I wouldn’t say trouble, just feel it’s not worthy for you. When you took such a big risk to stay by my side, helping Stellart steal confidential files, you did a great deed but only got a minor director position. Yet, people keep trying to drag you down." Maxim shook his head regretfully, "Thinking about it makes me feel sorry for you."

Maxim’s words cut deep into Summer’s heart, and her face shifted multiple times before reverting to normal, her voice cold and harsh, "This is my matter, unrelated to you, and I’ll defend my own interests. Besides, my company isn’t as bad as you say. At least my current boss, Noah, treats me very well. He always values me; I would never casually leave because of a simple promise from you."

"You really are naive." Maxim shook his head with a cold laugh.

Summer stared out the window, ignoring his ridicule.

After a while, she noticed the scenery outside the car seemed familiar, and several images flashed through her mind.

"Where are we going? You picked me up from work, aren’t you supposed to take me home? Besides my home, I’m not going anywhere." Summer said, placing her hand on the car door handle.

"I’m taking you back to Varden Villa. Don’t worry, my grandfather isn’t at the villa; he’s staying in the old house. If you want to see him, I’ll take you to pay your respects during the Dragon Boat Festival."

"I have no interest in meeting your grandfather." Summer shrugged off his hand, glaring at him, "Tell your driver to turn around and take me home or let me off here; I’ll get a car back myself."

Maxim slightly turned, forcefully pulling her into his arms, wrapping one arm around her shoulders, his voice dangerously close to her ear: "Have you forgotten the terms of the contract? When I need you, you must be with me. I’m in a good mood today, and I want you to join me for dinner."

"But you didn’t mention this in advance," Summer, with one hand on his shoulder, couldn’t help but struggle, "Besides, I have other plans tonight. The contract has a one-year deadline; it won’t hurt to skip one night. Can we postpone this dinner?"

"I’ve already brought you here; do you think we can still postpone it?" Maxim asked amusedly, "You’re right, a year is indeed long. So you’d better get used to it. I hope next time I bring you to Varden Villa, you won’t resist so much."

"You!?"

"I like a compliant Mrs. Sinclair, understand?"

Knowing resistance was futile, Summer could only turn her head to look out the window.

Once inside the villa, the butler greeted them upon hearing the commotion. Seeing Maxim bringing the same girl for the second time, curiosity got the better of him as he secretly glanced at Summer, reassessing her importance in his mind.

Maxim placed a hand on Summer’s shoulder, pushing her in front of the butler: "Take good care of her. I’ve told you about her preferences before. For the next year, she is the young madam of this house. Whatever she says, you do it."

"Yes, young master." The butler grinned broadly, signaling to the maids who were hiding behind the railing to watch, "Why are you all standing there? Quickly welcome the young madam inside!"

Summer was thus warmly escorted inside by a group of people.

Maxim then put away his expression, turned to the door, and asked the bodyguard who had just alighted from the car following them, "What’s the situation?"
