Conquest Game: The Aloof Husband is Dangerous!-Chapter 177 - 161: Are You Looking at Me with Disgust?
Asher thought that this way Sophie would definitely leave with him, but to his surprise...
His hand hadn’t even reached out when she slapped it away, looking at him with a wary expression, "I don’t know how you know my name, but I really don’t know you. If you have any ideas about me, you’d better stay away. I, Sophie Sutton, am not someone you can bully!"
She had an arrogant and disdainful demeanor, vastly different from the Sophie Sutton in Asher’s memory. The Sophie in his memory clung to him persistently, no matter how indifferent he acted towards her...
She would act coy around him and be upset and heartbroken when he ignored her...
But the Sophie Sutton in front of him was nothing like the one in his memory at all, like two entirely different people—one was a cute, soft girl, and the other a sharp-tongued queen...
What on earth was going on?
Could it be that Sophie Sutton has a twin sister?
For a moment, his head was about to explode...
"I’m good friends with your second brother; we’ve known each other for a long time. If you don’t believe me, I’ll take you to meet your second brother and he can vouch for me."
Left with no choice, Asher said this. He dared not tell her that she had always liked him; saying that would probably get him scolded fiercely by this Sophie Sutton in front of him...
Sophie Sutton suspiciously eyed him for two seconds, "My second brother? Just because you say you’re my second brother’s friend, I’m supposed to believe you? Are you out of your mind, or did you forget to take your medicine this morning? Can’t you see my contemptuous look for you?"
Asher’s face turned black, it could only be described as capital letters embarrassment...
Sophie Sutton saw him say nothing and coldly enunciated each word, "Get- lost! Im-med-iat-ely! Not- send-ing- you- off!"
Asher: "..."
Damn! Has he met his nemesis?
Sophie Sutton couldn’t be bothered with him anymore. She wouldn’t show a good face to such a rascal; there’s no way to take advantage of her!
Asher was helpless; he couldn’t force her to leave, so he could only follow her from a distance.
Damn it! If it weren’t for her being White’s sister, he wouldn’t bother with this at all! He thought to himself...
After taking a few steps, Sophie noticed Asher following behind her. She turned around, arms crossed, and stood there, "Did you lose your memory? If you can’t understand human language, go back and start over in the womb!"
Asher’s face turned green with anger, "I think you’re not Sophie Sutton at all!"
Sophie Sutton sneered with disdain, "If I’m not Sophie Sutton, are you? Even a fool has limits. Don’t think you can bully me just because I’m drunk. I’ll tell you seriously today, no one who’s ever been born can bully me!"
Her domineering arrogance was completely different from the Sophie Sutton in Asher’s memory. He decided to give up; following her would only degrade himself! 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞
Even if she really was Sophie Sutton, with such a sharp-tongued and strong demeanor, no one could bully her, right?
Thinking of this, he turned back to his booth.
Sophie watched his departing back, the corners of her lips lifted with a sneer, and then she returned to her own booth.
As soon as Asher returned to the booth, Landon Linden teased him, "You went to answer a call for so long? Did you make another trip to the restroom?"
Jason Hawthorne and Silas Sutton naturally understood the implication of the latter sentence. One lightly coughed, and the other raised a teacup for a sip...
Asher ignored him, instead looking at Silas Sutton, "White, honestly tell me, does your precious sister Sophie Sutton have a split personality disorder?"
Silas Sutton didn’t expect him to suddenly bring up his little sister, and he eyed him, "What nonsense are you spouting? Even if you have a split personality, she wouldn’t have one!"
Asher suspiciously glanced at his friend, knowing that he wouldn’t deceive him...
But then, what was with the Sophie Sutton he just met?
"Then does Sophie Sutton have an identical twin sister or anything like that?"
Silas Sutton lazily lifted his eyelids, "That doesn’t sound like a joke. Do you think it’s possible?"
Asher sat up straight, "Yeah! I don’t think it’s possible either! I’ve never heard you mention it! But then, who was that sharp-tongued queenly-style Sophie Sutton I just met?"
Silas Sutton was somewhat confused, "What do you mean?"
Troubled, Asher briefly explained the scene he had just encountered, and all three present found it unbelievable.
Landon Linden was the first to ask, "You said earlier that Sophie Sutton didn’t recognize you?"
Asher nodded, "Yeah! You weren’t there when she was talking to me; her every word was so sharp-tongued. If it had been any other woman, I would have made sure she didn’t see the next sunrise, she was so arrogant!"
Landon Linden said leisurely, "Could it be because you hurt Sophie too many times before, and she deliberately gave you a hard lesson?"
Hearing this, Silas Sutton frowned slightly. From what he knew of his little sister, she didn’t seem to be the same person Asher had just described...
What on earth was going on?
Asher’s face turned black, "But you know what? She was obviously drunk. A drunk woman should speak truthfully. If she really liked me, she couldn’t have been so sharp-tongued; that’s the real issue here! Moreover, she didn’t recognize me, and it didn’t seem pretended."
Jason Hawthorne, who hadn’t spoken until now, said in a deep voice, "Maybe John could be asked about this; he’s a doctor, and more specialized in this area."
Silas Sutton suddenly stood up, "I’ll go check it out!"
Asher also stood up, "I’ll go with you. I won’t have peace of mind until I figure out what’s going on."
When the two of them followed the road to find her, they couldn’t see Sophie Sutton at all. In the end, they couldn’t even find her using the surveillance cameras.
Silas Sutton couldn’t help but look at his friend, "Are you sure you didn’t mistake the person just now?"
Asher Thorne swore to the heavens, "Would I do that?"
Silas Sutton immediately took out his phone to call his younger sister, regardless of what happened, he needed to ensure her safety.
Fifteen seconds later, the call connected, and it was Aunt Wendy Linden’s voice, "White, Sophie had too much to drink, she’s just fallen asleep."
Silas Sutton froze for a second, "Auntie, how did Sophie get back?"
Wendy knew the bond between her nephew and daughter was very close, so she didn’t think much about his concern, "Her friends brought her back, she just got home a little while ago. This girl, it’s her first time being this drunk!"
Silas Sutton asked again, "Did Sophie act... unusual?"
Wendy shook her head, "No, not really! Why?"
Silas Sutton said, "Nothing, I was just asking. You know, lots of people go crazy after drinking."
Wendy didn’t think much of it, "No, she just collapsed and fell asleep after coming home, she’s sleeping like a little piglet now!"
There was lots of affection in her words...
Hanging up the phone, Silas Sutton frowned and glanced at his friend, "My aunt said Sophie fell asleep immediately after going home and didn’t act out of the ordinary."
Asher Thorne exclaimed in grievance, "Oh no! Now it seems like I’m lying. I have to go see that girl in person tomorrow! I’ll never forget what I just saw; it left such a damn deep impression!"
Silas Sutton also knew his friend wouldn’t lie; after knowing him for so many years, he had at least that basic level of trust.
But, what on earth was going on?
The next day.
The weather was clear, and early in the morning, a nurse came in to replace the flowers in the vase for Laura Quincy, and the room was instantly filled with a fresh fragrance.
"Miss Quincy, you’re recovering very quickly! The sun is nice today! How about I push you to the garden downstairs for a stroll this afternoon?" the nurse said with a smile.
She was a Guard Grant responsible for the VIP area, very professional, and wouldn’t casually leak patient information.
One of their strengths was not gossiping.
Laura Quincy glanced at the indulgent sunlight outside, "Sure! Being cooped up here every day makes me really want to breathe some fresh air outside."
As soon as they finished chatting, Justin Hawthorne rushed in like a gust of wind, "Sister, seeing Twinkle first thing in the morning makes you feel much better, right?"
Laura Quincy nodded with a smile, "Of course!"
Justin Hawthorne grinned so wide his eyes squinted into slits, "Hehe... Then I won’t leave today, anyway, Daddy is always so busy, he doesn’t have time to accompany Twinkle."
Laura Quincy couldn’t help but ask, "Has your Daddy not been home these past few days?"
Justin Hawthorne immediately complained with grievance, "Yeah! Daddy leaves early and comes back late every day, I haven’t seen him for many days."
Laura Quincy frowned, as a father he’s truly quite negligent, isn’t he?
At noon, just after finishing lunch, Laura Quincy leaned on her crutches to go to the restroom and accidentally overheard a conversation between Mary and Twinkle in the hallway.
"Twinkle, you really shouldn’t tell your sister Laura about your Daddy’s gastric problem recurring?"
"No need! My sister doesn’t like Daddy anyway, and it’s clearly Daddy’s own fault this time, he brought it on himself by neglecting his health. I always remind Daddy to eat on time."
"Actually, your Daddy is just trying to use work to divert his attention."
After a moment of silence, Mary said again, "Remember to take these gastric medicines back to your Daddy."
"Mm, thank you, Godmother."
"Good child, being so polite to your Godmother!"
Hearing this, Laura Quincy couldn’t help but feel a slight pang of guilt, was it because she’d behaved too excessively in front of Twinkle?
Is that why he would say things like "my sister doesn’t like Daddy, don’t tell her"?
Suddenly, she felt sorry for how considerate Twinkle was.
As for that man, she suddenly couldn’t pinpoint what she felt. Clearly, she hated him, but he wasn’t bothering her, kept his promise, and even overworked himself into a gastric problem...
Laura Quincy suddenly wanted to cover her ears; why did she have to hear all this?!
All it did was add to her troubles!
When Mary and Twinkle came back, they both acted nonchalant as if nothing had been said, but in reality, they both knew that Laura had heard...
This was the conversation Asher had taught them, one could say it was painstakingly detailed...
Of course, Laura Quincy wouldn’t proactively ask about Jason Hawthorne, but the conversation between Mary and Twinkle kept popping back into her mind intermittently.
No way to escape, no way to refuse...
Justin Hawthorne, as usual, chattered around her, and seeing this little replica of that man gave Laura a very peculiar feeling in her heart...
