Conquest Game: The Aloof Husband is Dangerous!-Chapter 118 - 113: Saying Not a Word
Laura Quincy turned around and left. Often, the more you care about those rumors, the more tiring life gets. Not thinking about them is instead quite liberating.
Quinn Chase stomped her foot in frustration.
Crystal Langley just shrugged and remained silent.
Violet Whitman suddenly came over and said, "Maybe you guys are barking up the wrong tree."
Quinn Chase found her words a bit puzzling, "What do you mean, wrong tree?"
Violet Whitman didn’t explain further, but gave her a meaningful glance while holding her folder and walked away.
After she left, Quinn Chase looked at Crystal Langley, "What do you think Violet meant? Why did she say only half a sentence and then leave?"
Crystal Langley’s eyes darted, "Could she be implying that Laura Quincy has nothing to do with Young Master Thorne?"
Quinn Chase sneered, "As if! If she had no connection with Young Master Thorne, what would be her excuse for receiving special treatment? Does she really think she’s special and above everyone else just because of her looks?"
This time, Crystal Langley didn’t respond, knowing Violet Whitman’s usual reticence. She must have had a reason for saying such a thing. Maybe she discovered something...
In Stella Jennings’s office.
The sudden ringing of the phone shattered the quiet room.
Stella Jennings picked up, "Hello?"
The other party said, "Team Leader Jennings, the dinner with Counselor Xavier tonight is all set. However, Counselor Xavier mentioned that he and our team’s Translator Quincy are high school classmates. He hopes she can join too, so he won’t be in the awkward position of knowing no one else..."
"What did you say? Jonah Xavier and Laura Quincy are high school classmates?" 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶
"That’s what Counselor Xavier said."
A mysterious smile slowly spread across Stella Jennings’s lips. Ha! This is going to be fun! The Xavier Family’s Fifth Young Master is actually high school classmates with Laura Quincy, and he specifically requested her company at dinner tonight. I wonder how Jason would react to this news?
Thinking of this, she felt an unusual excitement building inside her.
"Alright, I got it. Please convey to Counselor Xavier that Laura Quincy will be there."
"Yes."
After a short while, there was a knock on the door. She knew Laura Quincy had arrived and calmly said, "Come in."
Laura Quincy pushed the door open and handed over the completed work to Stella Jennings, who was seated.
Stella Jennings took it, lifted her eyes, and gave her a deep look, "Has your leg injury fully healed?"
Laura Quincy nodded, "Thank you, Team Leader Jennings, for your concern, and thanks to the company for taking care of me. The doctor said I can return to work normally."
Stella Jennings looked at her approvingly, "That’s good. Next Tuesday, the President needs to go to Zarain for a trip, and you’ll accompany as the interpreter. Is that alright?"
Laura Quincy hid her joy, "No problem."
Perhaps she agreed so quickly, probably because a woman in love easily reveals her little emotions...
Stella Jennings’s fingers clenched unconsciously under the desk. Could her suspicion be correct?
She wanted to ask more but feared alarming the snake, so she forced herself to hold back...
"I’ll inform you of the exact time for the trip later."
"Alright."
Just as Laura Quincy was about to turn away, she was called back.
"You and Jonah Xavier from Pinnacle Law Firm were high school classmates?"
"Uh...yes!"
Laura Quincy was a bit surprised. Why was Team Leader Jennings suddenly asking about this? It had nothing to do with work! Plus, it’s her private life. How did Team Leader Jennings know?
Stella Jennings noticed her question, "Here’s the thing, our company recently encountered an international lawsuit case, and we hired Counselor Xavier at a high salary as our defense lawyer. We have a dinner appointment tonight, but he hopes you can join because you’re the only one he knows in our company."
Laura Quincy suddenly understood. So that’s what this is about, and here she was thinking Team Leader Jennings...was investigating her...
"Well..."
"What’s wrong? Since you’re high school classmates, this request shouldn’t be too much, right? The case he’s handling might require your help for translation in the future. Having dinner tonight will be a way to celebrate becoming work partners."
Stella Jennings’s explanation made sense, and Laura Quincy had no reason to refuse. Also, Counselor Xavier was a good person. Since he was new, she ought to oblige.
"Okay."
Hearing her agreement, Stella Jennings looked delighted, "Then you get back to work! I’ll have the assistant send the dinner’s time and place to your phone later."
Laura Quincy responded and left.
After she left, Stella Jennings pondered for two minutes and dialed the President’s office.
Jason Hawthorne was in a meeting, and Mason Cross picked up, "Team Leader Jennings, the BOSS is in a meeting right now."
Stella Jennings wasn’t in a hurry, "Assistant Cross, it’s the same telling you. I’ve arranged tonight’s dinner with Counselor Xavier, but considering our company’s interests, I think it would be best if President Hawthorne can attend tonight. After all, I’m but a woman and may not manage well."
Understanding her implication, Mason Cross replied, "Don’t worry, Team Leader Jennings, I’ll convey your words exactly."
Stella Jennings smiled, "Thank you, Assistant Cross."
Mason Cross courteously responded, "It’s my duty."
At 6:40 PM, Laura Quincy drove her little Honda Fit slowly into the underground parking lot of The Lakemist Grand Hotel. There were quite a few cars tonight; it took her a while to find a spot.
Being her first time here, it took her a while to find the elevator. Just as the elevator doors opened, out of the corner of her eye, she seemed to catch a glimpse of a familiar black Spyker C8.
She didn’t think much of it because a text message came through on her phone.
Go home early tonight, and I’ll help you apply the medicine after you shower.
Seeing this suggestive message, Laura Quincy couldn’t help but smile, her heart filled with sweetness.
She stepped into the elevator, replying: Got it.
Meanwhile, in the parking lot, Jason Hawthorne, having just gotten out of his car, received Laura Quincy’s reply. He promptly put his phone away into his pocket and took the exclusive VIP elevator.
Laura Quincy assumed that there would be many people present for dinner tonight, like some colleagues from her team...
But once she arrived, she realized that it was only Stella Jennings, Director Langley from the legal department, and another colleague handling the case.
Jonah Xavier remained as graceful and refined as ever. When he saw Laura Quincy enter, he raised his lips into a gentle smile, calm and serene like a chrysanthemum.
Not too much, not too little, just right.
The kind of etiquette that should exist between classmates.
Stella Jennings felt a bit dismayed; it was entirely different from what she had imagined. Could it be that the two were just plain classmates?
She laughed, "I didn’t expect Counselor Xavier and Translator Quincy to be high school classmates. It seems your class was full of talent! Especially with someone as outstanding as Counselor Xavier."
Jonah Xavier subtly curved his lips, "You’re too kind. I’m merely focused on a field I like."
Director Langley of the legal department chuckled, "It would be a great honor if our legal circle had a few more people like Counselor Xavier!"
Jonah Xavier maintained his graceful demeanor, "Director Langley praises me too much. There are still many areas where I need to learn from you."
Laura Quincy sat silently, twisting her fingers, inwardly giving Jonah Xavier a thumbs-up. He truly is a paragon of gentlemanly virtue!
He’s unflappable, accepting others’ compliments with such calm composure, seemingly indifferent to fame and fortune...
"Translator Quincy, as an old classmate of Counselor Xavier, you must be responsible for keeping him company tonight. Sit next to him," Director Langley said with a chuckle.
Stella Jennings also chimed in, "It’s said that high school friendships are the most precious. You two must have a pretty good relationship, right?"
With those words, Laura Quincy had little choice but to sit next to Jonah Xavier.
As she passed Stella Jennings, she wasn’t sure if it was intentional or if she simply tripped...
Laura Quincy stumbled forward without warning—
Jonah Xavier hastily reached out to steady her, and suddenly their posture became quite intimate...
This scene was caught by Jason Hawthorne as he stepped through the door.
Since Laura Quincy had her back to the door and had nearly fallen, she didn’t notice Jason Hawthorne. She only whispered to Jonah Xavier, "Thank you."
Jonah Xavier smiled, "It’s nothing."
Then he kindly helped her into her seat.
Stella Jennings watched everything coldly, contemplating silently to herself.
