Chapter 212: Chapter 212 - Showing Off To The Wrong Person?
"I didn’t expect to see you here. Are you visiting someone?"
"No, I live in 4-04. Been doing my evening laps for the past hour. You must be one of the new additions to Perigee Residences?"
She swims closer to the edge of the pool, resting her arms on the deck and studying me still with an amused look. I guess it’s not that strange to run into someone that lives here... and working in a fairly high end place might indeed cover the rental costs.
"But I’m guessing you’re not *exactly* here for that. That energy you’re putting off... someone’s got some plans tonight doesn’t she?"
"I’m testing out some new swimwear."
Gesturing beneath my towel, Dahlia immediately laughs - a sharp sound that echoes off the pool area’s glass ceiling. When I’d read rooftop pool, I was expecting it to be a little more open to the elements...
But I suppose ’climate controlled’ should have made me realize that it meant more than just the water temperature. When she stops laughing, I tilt my head to suggest she should explain herself.
"That is just the most transparent excuse I’ve heard... all week? And trust me, I’ve heard some doozies from clients... which I am not at ethical liberty to actually disclose."
The woman pushes herself up to sit on the pool’s edge, with water dripping from her athletic looking one-piece. The black base with its green striping also has arcing lines of white that remind me of the person I rushed here for.
"And you are filled with some other kind of tension than going for a dip."
"...So obvious?"
"Whoever you’re waiting for is very lucky."
The outside validation sends a warm spike of satisfaction through me. If it’s that clear to someone who barely knows me, then Kyrie won’t be able to miss it either.
> Not that she really, truly knows me any better than anyone else... but she might have been paying more attention than others. <
Standing up and letting the towels drop, I strike a fairly casual pose - my chin raised with a satisfied smirk and arm out in a way that shows off the gift. One of her eyebrows raised... probably when she sees the fox faces.
Just like some of these people react with the twintails I like, most are probably going to see this as a bit ’childish’. I’m just glad that whoever the designer of this was, they don’t have as many societal hang-ups.
"Well, what do you think? Will this help send the right message?"
"Oh, it sends a message alright. Blue is gorgeous on you and the design is..."
She tilts her head and squints, grinning that way people have as she thought of tactful ways to say whatever she was thinking.
"Playful. Depending on where you stare and how you are moving, it flips between cute and sexy."
"That sounds like the best I could hope for. Any other opinion?"
Shifting my stance, I begin picturing soft brown eyes flickering orange like the stutter of candlelight moved by a wild wind. An awkward chuckles snaps me out of it.
"Ah... Hm. I guess just that you look confident enough to wear cartoon animals but still look like you could devour whoever it is you are thinking about right now."
> Perfect. That’s exactly the effect I want. For her to be on edge instead of me. <
Vrika doesn’t seem to really get what I’m going for, the spirit just understands how far I’m willing to push this evening. I have a feeling that it thinks it can convince me to let a final thing happen, but I’m not about to be Marked so easily.
"The person I’m meeting tends to be a bit... controlled. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t dislike that. I just want to test those limits."
"Ah, the strong, silent type who needs a little encouragement to let loose?"
Dahlia nods knowingly, though I don’t think she quite gets... our dynamic.
"Well, I’ve been there. My advice? Own what you’re putting out there. Don’t hide what you’re ready for. The dense and uncertain ones need to be shown exactly what they’re dealing with."
While listening to the somewhat unsolicited woman-to-woman advice and nodding, I’m adjusting the way everything fits and making sure everything sits perfectly. The energy in the space shifts immediately when I hear the pool area door open behind me.
Because that familiar scent of snow and iron flooded my werewolf senses even over the intensity of the pool cleaning chemicals. But... I’ve been caught in the middle of a flirty pose, one hand on my hip and the other running another nervous check through my hair.
Looking clearly like I was showing off for Dahlia’s amused and appreciative gaze! Which I was... which is why *nobody* moves for a long moment. The term... ’mexican standoff’ comes to mind.
I feel a set of eyes dart back to me from the side... with some sudden understanding *why* Kyrie Voss, CEO of Lunarizon Industries and regular of Crystalline Spa stands there frozen in the doorway as I’m there talking to another woman.
But mine are on the sporty red tank top and swim trunks she has on. The summery flair of it is like nothing I’d seen on her so far. With the way her pheromones smell and the name of her pack, you would think she wouldn’t look so damned good in it.
> Well. This is already not going how I planned. I didn’t actually have a full plan, yet? Well, you’re right but... shut up. <
Dahlia recovers first, starting to move and making both of us glance her way. She slips gracefully back into the water and kicks away from the side.
"And this would be the lucky someone, I’m guessing. Don’t mind me, I was just finishing up my workout anyway. A few more laps and I’ll be out of your way."
But she doesn’t start swimming immediately. Instead, she treads water on her back with that same a smile that clearly enjoyed the personal tension crackling in the air.
Kyrie finally steps fully into the pool area and the door closes with a click behind her. I can see her struggling to process what she walked in on - and her question makes it even clearer. freewebnøvel.coɱ
"I hope I’m not... interrupting anything."
