Clown Game-Chapter 47 - 38 Sticky Task 8
Chapter 47: Chapter 38 Sticky Task 8
Chapter 47 -38 Sticky Task 8
The four of them had quickly retreated from the basement and arrived on the second floor. Those insects, though afraid of noise, couldn’t resist their instinct to feed and surged out following them. In an instant, the dense sea of bugs had covered the entire first floor and was making its way up the stairs.
“What do we do?” Captain Li yelled.
Chen Xiao quickly ran into the room with the little boy’s body and shouted, “The carpet! The carpet!”
As he spoke, he went over to the corner to lift the carpet from the floor.
The other three were utterly bewildered, but in that moment, they all had one thought—to do as the lunatic said. Who knows, there might be some strange use to it.
So, with knives cutting or hands tearing, they haphazardly ripped and shredded the bedroom carpet, rolling it up with the adhesive mucus, and piled it all up in the hallway by the door.
Captain Li, looking at the clean floorboards, suddenly understood, “These insects can only move within the range of the mucus?”
Chen Xiao nodded and casually remarked, “If you look at the distribution of mucus on the first and second floors, you can guess some of it—it’s preparation for after hatching. Just now in the basement, they could have come directly at us, but they specifically avoided those cabinets that weren’t covered in mucus! But this is all speculation, because maybe they just like crawling on the mucus.”
While he talked, he pulled down the mucus-covered bed sheets and added the relatively clean bedding to the pile of mucus in the doorway.
“Anyone here able to start a fire?” he asked.
Old Zhao didn’t speak but rather extended the index finger of his prosthetic limb.
“Pff,” a small flame ignited…
The source of this c𝓸ntent is frёeweɓηovel.coɱ.
Chen Xiao grimaced for half a second, “Fuck… this thing even has a lighter installed.”
Grimace as he might, he quickly said, “Light it!”
Old Zhao clearly knew what to do and lit the bedding without hesitation.
The flames spread rapidly, sealing off the corridor, and the surrounding mucus helped contain the fire, preventing it from spreading to the staircase. And just like that, a wall of fire temporarily separated the insects from the people.
Mouse seemed to finally breathe a sigh of relief, “After this mission, I must take a few days off!” He drooped and muttered as if he were utterly spent.
Captain Li also let out a long sigh and asked Chen Xiao, “What now? Any good ideas?”
At this point, he wasn’t just soliciting Chen Xiao’s opinion but seemed to be directly asking him to take charge. Although Captain Li usually was the one to develop plans during missions, after encountering Chen Xiao, he was painfully aware that he couldn’t keep up with the man’s thought process, not being a madman himself. And various outcomes had proven that the madman’s ideas were indeed effective.
Chen Xiao sat down on the floor; he needed to rest, having expended a lot of energy in the past while.
“There are four methods!” he said.
“First, these beddings can burn for about ten minutes. We can use that time to smash these windows and get out!” said Chen Xiao, pointing at the window behind him.
The window was covered with a thick layer of mucus, but whether waiting for Old Zhao’s prosthetic to cool down for a shot or just tearing it down by hand, they should have more than enough time.
But Captain Li immediately shook his head, “No, although these creatures are afraid of noise, who knows if they’ll just charge outside? If that happens, it’s not just about mission failure. Our headquarters would have us killed on the spot!”
Chen Xiao nodded; he was aware of the risk, which is why he hadn’t just run out through the first-floor door earlier. If those hungry bugs got desperate and swarmed onto the street, “Stone” would loom large, clearing the way with his snot. The gawking bystanders outside would be akin to a lavish feast in the eyes of the insects.
Thus, he immediately outlined the second method.
“Second choice! Burn the house down—use this fire to set the place ablaze. We escape through the window, then find flammable materials outside to block all the exits.”
Chen Xiao somewhat favored this method, simple and effective, though it might at worst endanger his teammates. Captain Li, however, didn’t think twice before shouting, “Impossible, what about Stone?”
Chen Xiao, a bit downcast, pursed his lips and then presented the third option.
“Call for help! Since we can’t run out and must take ‘Stone’ with us, then waiting for rescue is our only option. But who knows when backup will arrive, and I’m not sure the fire barrier will last the full ten minutes because…”
He had just said this when the sound of vomiting came from outside, followed by spit-up mucus landing on the burning bedding, hissing as it made contact, and the flames dimmed significantly.
“Alright, looks like we can’t wait for rescue anymore…” Chen Xiao said, resigned.
Team Leader Li’s expression was stern as he aimed his shotgun at the door and asked, “What about the fourth option?”
Struggling with his sore body, Chen Xiao replied, “The fourth kind? Fight head-on! What else can we do? We can’t run, and you guys don’t want to leave that guy behind. We’ll just have to see whether there are more of them or more bullets.”
“Wow~~” Another glob of mucus sprayed onto the flames, and the fire was nearly extinguished. “Stone” stood at the door, lifeless, with the small knife still lodged in his shoulder, while the densely packed insects outside were eagerly poised to storm the room and feast.
“Alright… now we can only choose the fourth option.” Chen Xiao said blandly, turning to Rat on the side, “Hey, you still have a gun, right?”
Rat, with a helpless look, pulled out a gun from somewhere and tossed it to Chen Xiao.
At this moment, Team Leader Li nodded, as if quite satisfied with the suggestion.
Rat shrugged helplessly. Although he didn’t look pleased, he didn’t show any fear either, and spun the guns in his hands with dexterity.
And Old Zhao… Well, he had always kept a cold expression and remained silent.
“Wow~” As the third bout of mucus was ejected, the flames at the door were completely extinguished.
In an instant, the sea of insects outside surged over “Stone,” wildly twisting their bodies as they crowded in.
They resembled enlarged silkworm chrysalises, with red and black spots covering their bodies, no eyes, and mouths like that of bloodsucking leeches at the end of their thicker limbs. They seemed to possess a strong vitality, or else they wouldn’t be able to bore through a human skull.
But as Chen Xiao had said before, these “adorable” little creatures didn’t seem too keen on moving around without mucus, so once they entered the bedroom, their speed slowed down considerably.
However, due to their vast numbers, piled layer upon layer, they were still not slowed down much.
Team Leader Li faced the insect swarm without a hint of panic. He expertly worked the action of his shotgun and with a loud “bang,” blew apart the first wave that had surged in, splattering blood and flesh all over the walls.
Immediately after, he fired a second shot without even chambering a new round.
“Bang” and another group was blown apart.
Chen Xiao watched this scene dumbfounded, cursing in his mind, “What the hell, man? Since when can you rapid-fire a shotgun like this?”
Of course, while Team Leader Li was firing, the others were definitely not idle. Since there was only one entrance, they didn’t need to do any superfluous actions like aiming. They just had to shoot toward the door.
Chen Xiao, not sure whether he had always been handling firearms or not, wielded his guns without feeling any discomfort. Rat, needless to say, with his specially enhanced reflexes, was able to accurately pull the trigger at the precise moment each hammer hit the bullet. In no time, the room filled with the sounds of gunfire, bullets exploding through flesh and empty cartridges striking the floor, as ricocheting bullets caused small stones to fly off the walls.
Under the overwhelming clamor, the tide-like swarm of insects twisted anew, torn between their desire to feed and their instinctive sensitivity to the noise, causing their incoming speed to visibly halt.
Just then, Old Zhao lifted his left arm, and the sound of a turbo spinning up filled the air, as the surrounding atmosphere was violently drawn into the prosthetic, the wind howling and whipping everyone’s clothes.
“Move!!!” Team Leader Li roared.
The others promptly retreated, standing behind Old Zhao.
The next second, the wind ceased, and an unreal silence ensued.
…
Then, with a thunderous “boom.”
Everyone was close this time, and the sound of the blast left them all dizzy.
Chen Xiao shook his head to clear it and looked in front of him to see that the insect swarm that had just poured in was blasted apart, with the wall and the hallway outside blown open into a huge hole, revealing the living room on the first floor. Large chunks of flesh slapped against the walls, while blood mist splattered everywhere, staining the entire room in a ghastly crimson.
