Close Combat Mage-Chapter 401 – Xiang Yun Teaching Skills Pt.2
Chapter 401 - Xiang Yun Teaching Skills Pt.2
Xiang Yun turned to tell Roger, “First is you. Although your leg techniques are pretty good, you still clearly lack sufficient skill. In terms of the finer details, you are far inferior to the leg techniques used in my ancient, Eastern-style arts. I’ll pass on some techniques to you now. Once you’ve incorporated these into your own techniques so that they’re perfectly blended together, I believe that you will be mostly unrivalled in this world!”
“Ah?” Roger was stunned as he asked Xiang Yun in disbelief, “Are you for real? You’re just boasting, right? How could a sword fanatic like you teach me leg techniques?”
Xiang Yun scoffed and boldly declared, “Think about it, having traveled around the world, how could there be any martial art that I haven’t witnessed before? For the sake of perfecting my own art of the sword, I’ve gathered a large amount of secret techniques and skills that I’ve come across. Some of these I’ve fused with my blade skills, while the others I cannot actually practice. However, I still understand them, and they are similarly a part of my experience!”
Xiang Yun’s expression turned severe as he frigidly declared, “However, before I teach you this, there’s something you must promise me first!” 𝗳𝔯𝙚e𝒘e𝚋𝘯𝚘ν𝙚l.𝑐o𝙢
“Mhm…” Roger bobbed his head repeatedly and impatiently asked, “Hurry up and say it. If it’s something within my ability, I will definitely do it. Do you want me to pledge to be your student?”
“Haha…” Xiang Yun chuckled and shook his head. “We’re all brothers and companions, so pledging to be my student would be a joke. I only hope that you don’t secretly tell others of the teachings I impart to you to outsiders. Aside from my posterity, they absolutely cannot be spread around outside. Otherwise, I’ll be labeled as a traitor!”
Roger laughed in understanding. “Don’t worry about that. Although I don’t understand your way of thinking, I will follow it if that is your request. Even to my death, I absolutely will not reveal your teachings!”
Xiang Yun nodded in satisfaction. With a lidded expression, he said in a somewhat dreamy tone, “There was once a warrior in my country called Nie Feng. He was known as a god of wind because he made his name through the country with his leg techniques rivalling a wind god’s!”
“A wind god’s leg techniques!” Roger’s eyes couldn’t help but light up at this.
Xiang Yun continued, “This wind god imparted a total of six mighty and powerful teachings: First Form: chasing the wind, Second Form: withstanding the wind, Third Form: stormy gale, Fourth Form: tornado destruction, Fifth Form: wind god’s fury, and Sixth Form: passing like thunder. These leg techniques focus on releasing force to injure the opponent first before being provoked.
“Wow!” Roger cried out in excitement. “Just from the names alone, they sound very powerful. Quick…hurry up and teach them to me!”
Xiang Yun shook his head. “Relying on these techniques alone would make it easy to become a peak tier expert, but it’s nowhere near enough to become unrivalled. There are three major ultimate skill sets: Wind God’s Legs, Drifting Cloud’s Palms, and Frosty Heaven’s Fists. Therefore, the Wind God’s Legs are just one of the three. What I plan on teaching you isn’t just this alone!”
Roger immediately fell silent and kept his fervent gaze locked onto Xiang Yun. Xiang Yun then continued, “The techniques from the Wind God’s Legs are graceful and elegant. When activated, they can be as destructive as a tornado and pierce the clouds. But in terms of strength and continuity, they can never reach the absolute limit. That’s why…I will also be teaching you two other techniques that will each make up for the deficiency in power and continuity!”
Xiang Yun paused slightly before adding, “First is the issue of power. Like Boss said earlier, the greatest strength behind leg techniques is the amount of force they contain. That is why I will be teaching you the Northern Shaolin skill that is well known for its power: Vajra’s Kicks!”
“Vajra’s Kicks?” Roger’s eyes lit up with a sharp light.
“Yes…” Xiang Yun explained in a deep voice, “That’s right. This skill set is heavy in power, beyond fierce and incomparably strong. It has both elements of light and metal, and there is no barrier this technique cannot surpass. If you combine this with the Wind God’s Legs, you will be able to make up for the deficiency in force!”
“Gulp…” Roger swallowed hard and asked, “And? Aside from power, didn’t you say continuity was a problem as well?”
“Yes…” Xiang Yun said seriously, “Continuity refers to the ability for attacks to be strung together in succession. Although both the Wing God’s Legs and Vajra’s Kicks are amazing and can inflict serious damage, they can’t really be used consecutively. To have a comprehensive knowledge of all types of leg techniques, there is the the king of continuity: Foshan’s Invisible Feet!”
“Damn!” Upon hearing this amazing name, Roger shouted out excitedly, “What’s that? It sounds super overpowered!”
Xiang Yun affirmed, “It is. In reality, this technique has been developed by combining all kinds of special techniques over the times from various places. It is the ultimate profound leg technique that has a total of nine realms. Each realm allows one to kick twice in succession; this means that upon reaching the top realm, one could inflict the devastating damage of eighteen successive kicks as soon as the first one lands on the opponent!”
“Holy crap! Eighteen kicks in a row! Wouldn’t that make you unbeatable?” Roger exclaimed in disbelief. He couldn’t imagine how anyone could possibly survive eighteen consecutive blows.
Xiang Yun shook his head and bitterly answered, “Although this technique is godly, learning it alone is still nowhere enough to be unbeatable. Its attacks are extremely fast and continuous, but its power is extremely low. That’s why I said that you have to learn the Wind God’s Legs, the powerful Vajra’s Kicks, and Foshan’s Invisible Feet to integrate in harmony with your own martial arts in order to create the ultimate leg technique!”
Xiang Yun’s expression turned serious. “Finally, I will also teach you the most powerful single-attack leg technique: Willow Strike’s Armor!”
“Willow Strike’s Armor!” Roger murmured to himself.
Xiang Yun further elaborated, “The Willow Strike can also be called Lashing Strike, and allow your leg to transform into a whip that can lash out strikes at the opponent. Because of a whip’s characteristics, it is difficult to use this to force an opponent to retreat. Instead, its lashes create a centrifugal force that can trap the opponent in their spot through unending strikes. With the addition of your Hormone fruits’ effects, the results would be painful to even think about!”
“Big brother!” Roger flung himself onto Xiang Yun and urged, “I beg of you, please quickly teach these four techniques to me! I’ll work extremely hard, and do whatever you ask of me!”
Xiang Yun freed his arms and said, “Since I’ve already told you of them, I’ll obviously teach them to you. We’re all teammates, comrades, so I don’t need you to pay me back in any way. If you grow stronger, that just means our entire group grows stronger. That’s the only way we can continue advancing forwards. As long as you’re willing to expend the arduous effort, that’s enough repayment.”
Xiang Yun then added, “I can teach the leg techniques to you every morning on the deck. Although I’m not proficient in them, I remember all the instructions, and I’ve personally experienced those techniques before. It’s unlikely I will get them wrong.”
Roger was so happy after hearing this that he was itching to start, and nearly felt like kissing Xiang Yun in joy. He began to tug at Xiang Yun instead, pressing him to immediately teach the skills. Upon seeing Roger’s impatient attitude, Xiang Yun shook his head and said with a faint smile on his face, “No, I said that we would only train in the morning. As for now, there’s something that I want to give to Boss, so I cannot teach you right now.
When Roger heard Suo Jia was involved, he immediately quieted down. After all, he couldn’t deprive someone else the opportunity to learn for his own selfish reasons. Moreover…the person in question was Suo Jia. Even if it meant Roger couldn’t learn something, he wasn’t willing to interfere with an important matter of Suo Jia’s.
Seeing that Roger didn’t push any further, Xiang Yun shifted his gaze to Suo Jia. “Boss, although I don’t understand magic…I believe that you will definitely be wild with joy when you see what I am about to give you!”
