Chapter 718: Chapter 718: Thank you for your tolerance and care for me in this marriage

Shanshui Manor, 8 PM.

Ji Wei had been lying in bed for most of the day. Her waist felt a little sore and strained as she carefully propped up her upper body to sit. The wounds on her body had mostly healed and weren’t as painful anymore.

Gu Moqian had gone to the children’s room next door to coax An An to sleep and hadn’t returned yet.

She picked up the book placed beside the bed and casually flipped through a few pages, her mind wandering. Her gaze repeatedly drifted toward the vanity. The divorce agreement should still be in the middle drawer.

Ji Wei stared at the drawer in a daze, lightly biting her lower lip.

Then, as if making up her mind, she set the book aside, lifted the blanket, and slowly got out of bed.

Walking pulled at the wounds on her body, so Ji Wei moved very slowly and stepped cautiously, taking half a minute to arrive at the vanity.

She lowered her head to stare at the drawer’s handle, took a deep breath, and then reached out to grasp the handle, pulling it open.

The drawer slid open, revealing a kraft paper document bag lying there untouched. Ji Wei’s slender, pale hand picked it up and opened it.

The contents of the divorce agreement weren’t much different from the first draft she tore up. She skimmed through it, her fingers finally stopping at the signature line.

This divorce agreement—neither of their signatures had been filled in at the bottom.

Ji Wei stared at the blank line for a long time before reaching over to take a ballpoint pen from the nearby pen holder, uncapping it.

She laid the agreement flat on the vanity, her right hand gripping the black pen. Her hand trembled uncontrollably, and the tip of the pen hovered above the paper, unable to fall.

"Weiwei, why are you up?"

Gu Moqian had just pushed open the bedroom door and saw the woman in a pale pink silk nightgown, standing at the vanity with her back turned to him.

The man’s voice startled Ji Wei, making her hand jerk abruptly. The pen’s tip left a black mark on the document.

Gu Moqian noticed her unusual demeanor and quickly stepped forward, his inquisitive gaze lingering on her pale face for a few seconds before following her pen-holding hand to the flat-laid divorce agreement.

He understood almost instantly what she intended to do, a flash of shock and sorrow crossing his eyes.

"You want to sign the divorce papers now?" His voice trembled slightly, incredulously looking at Ji Wei.

Ji Wei bit her lip, forcing herself to remain composed.

She gripped the pen tightly, lifted her gaze to meet the man’s eyes, and nodded, replying, "Mm. It’ll happen sooner or later. Better today than someday."

Her expression was unusually calm, which made the pain in Gu Moqian’s chest intensify.

She couldn’t wait to divorce him.

The man’s complexion turned pale, his gaze fixed unwaveringly on her, the anguish in his eyes making her own feel hot and heavy.

"Thank you for your patience, care, and love during this marriage. Moqian, this is the end of our relationship. I have no regrets."

Ji Wei held back the tears threatening to surge forth, quickly said these words, and then dropped her gaze, focusing once more on the signature line she had marked earlier.

She fought to keep her hand from trembling again and slowly lowered the pen’s tip onto the paper.

"Ji Wei!"

Gu Moqian called out in a trembling voice, his gaze stunned and sorrowful.

But it was too late. Ji Wei’s hand moved swiftly, and the first character of her name appeared on the document.

However, just then, the sudden sound of an infant’s cry pierced the air, freezing Ji Wei’s hand mid-motion.

It was An An crying!

Ji Wei’s eyes flickered with urgency. She set the pen down and turned to take a step.

"I’ll carry you over."

Gu Moqian stepped forward before she could move, wrapping his arm around her slender waist and knees, lifting her into his arms.
