Chapter 711: Chapter 711: This Medicine Has Side Effects

Another voice immediately retorted, "No! You’ve endured so much already, you absolutely cannot give in! Once you get addicted to this stuff, it will be nearly impossible to quit. You must hold on!"

Gu Moqian was drenched in cold sweat, his short, messy hair plastered to his forehead.

He let out a painful, low growl, as if there was a beast gnawing at his flesh and bones from within. The immense agony caused his fingers to claw deeply into the car seat, nearly tearing through the leather upholstery.

His eyes were bloodshot. Alone in the dimly lit car, he endured the bone-devouring pain, clinging to the one thought remaining in his mind: Never give in!

After half an hour of torment, the intense suffering gradually subsided. To him, however, it felt like he had lived through an eternal century.

Gu Moqian slowly sat upright, reached out to straighten his crumpled suit, and only after ensuring he looked presentable did he open the car door and step out.

Back at the hospital, Jin Qichuan was still seated on the sofa outside the ward.

Seeing Gu Moqian walk inside, Jin Qichuan looked at his face with a peculiar expression, as if trying to find traces of something.

"You’re still here?" Gu Moqian said coldly, bluntly telling him to leave.

Jin Qichuan rose from the sofa; he hadn’t planned to stay much longer anyway.

Ji Wei was still sorting out her emotions, and he wouldn’t force her, nor would he linger here as an added burden.

"Alright, I’ll go."

He shot Gu Moqian a deep look before walking past him and out the door.

Gu Moqian stepped directly into the ward. Seeing Ji Wei sleeping soundly, his heart loosened slightly.

Aunt Zhu pushed the door open and entered, noticing Gu Moqian standing at the bedside, silently staring at the sleeping Ji Wei.

"Mr. Gu, you should get some rest. You’ve been watching over her for so long—it must be exhausting." Aunt Zhu said with concern, noticing the weariness on Gu Moqian’s face.

Gu Moqian slowly turned his head upon hearing this, but instead of answering her suggestion, he asked about his son, "Is An An adjusting well at the Ji Family?"

Since Aunt Zhu had to bring meals to the hospital every day and couldn’t care for An An herself, he had temporarily been entrusted to Old Madam Ji for care.

"The young master has been very well-behaved. He gets along delightfully with Old Madam Ji," Aunt Zhu replied with a smile.

Gu Moqian nodded, then shifted his gaze back to Ji Wei on the hospital bed.

Aunt Zhu unpacked the food from the insulated container and placed it on the small side table. She turned back to Gu Moqian and said, "You should eat something first."

"I’m not hungry," the man replied faintly.

Since Ji Wei’s hospitalization, Gu Moqian had been eating very little. If Aunt Zhu hadn’t consistently reminded him to eat, he might have entirely forgotten the need to nourish himself.

Aunt Zhu was about to say something more when Gu Moqian’s phone vibrated in the pocket of his suit trousers.

He took it out, glanced at the caller ID, and said to Aunt Zhu, "I’ll step out for a moment, but I’ll be back soon."

Aunt Zhu quickly nodded.

"Mr. Gu, I need you to come to my office; I’ve found that medication," Doctor Shi Ye’s voice came through when Gu Moqian answered the call outside the ward.

"Alright, I’ll be right there."

Doctor Shi’s office was on the third floor of the outpatient building. Gu Moqian walked the distance directly, arriving at the door and knocking.

"Come in," a calm male voice sounded from inside.

Gu Moqian pushed the door open and stepped in, closing it behind him.

Doctor Shi Ye was organizing patient files. He glanced at Gu Moqian without much surprise.

"Take a seat, I’ll go fetch it for you," Shi Ye said as he walked into the inner room.

Gu Moqian kept one hand in his pocket and did not sit down.

Soon, Shi Ye returned with a box of medication. The illustration on the package indicated the drug came in injectable form.

Shi Ye stood before him and handed him the box.

"This medication can temporarily suppress the onset of drug addiction but comes with side effects. It may induce hallucinations and impair brain function. Are you sure you want to use it?"
