Chapter 699: Chapter 699: Mommy Will Take You to See Daddy

"Tomorrow morning at ten, it’s the flight. You have to come." Without hearing Ji Wei’s response, Zhao Wanqing spoke in a melancholy tone. Then she leaned against the car seat and said no more.

Ji Wei still safely dropped Zhao Wanqing off at the hotel entrance.

Before getting out of the car, Zhao Wanqing sincerely thanked Ji Wei, "Thank you for bringing me back. See you tomorrow!"

Had she agreed to come tomorrow?

Ji Wei’s face was icy and cold, without a response.

Watching Zhao Wanqing sling her bag over her shoulder and walk into the hotel, Ji Wei withdrew her gaze, started the car, and drove toward Shanshui Manor.

About twenty minutes later, Ji Wei safely arrived home.

Before getting out of the car, her gaze involuntarily fell on the book in the storage compartment, and Zhao Wanqing’s words echoed in her ears: "A man’s true heart isn’t seen with the eyes but heard with the heart."

Was Zhao Wanqing hinting at something?

After hesitating for a few seconds, Ji Wei took the book and got out of the car.

In the children’s room, An An was sleeping soundly. Seeing her son’s serene sleeping face, the weariness on Ji Wei’s own face instantly vanished. She bent down, kissed the chubby little cheek of the young boy, and then returned to her bedroom to freshen up.

After changing into her pajamas, Ji Wei lay on the bed, tossing and turning, unable to sleep.

She simply sat up, twisted the bedside lamp on, and opened the book Zhao Wanqing had given her.

The book’s cover was a girly pink, and to her surprise, the content inside was full of romantic, bubbly pink too. The story primarily narrated the loving daily life of a couple, warm and sweet to the core.

After flipping through a dozen pages, Ji Wei felt as if she had been utterly satiated with dog food.

She didn’t even know when she fell asleep, but when she opened her eyes, it was already the next morning, and her hand was still holding the book.

The summer sunlight streamed through the window early, and Ji Wei rubbed her sore wrist, bleary-eyed as she sat up in her bed.

Suddenly, there was the piercing sound of a phone ringing, disruptive in the quiet morning light.

Ji Wei froze for a few seconds before reaching out to grab her phone. Having gone to bed late, her eyes were still a bit drowsy as she groggily pressed the call button and held the phone to her ear.

"Little Weiwei! Hurry up and tell me, how did the battle go last night? Did you stomp that homewrecker and crush her underfoot?" Xia Duoduo’s excited voice rang out on the line.

Ji Wei thought, if Xia Duoduo knew that she hadn’t stomped the homewrecker but instead safely escorted her back to the hotel, would Xia Duoduo slap her into oblivion?

"Um, sort of..." Ji Wei could only reply vaguely.

"What do you mean by ’sort of’?" Xia Duoduo’s heart was boiling with righteous indignation. "When dealing with vixens like her, you can’t go soft. You must let her see what we’re capable of! But hey, it’s understandable if you lacked experience for your first time. Wait for me at home, I’m coming over right away, and we’ll plan our next counterattack together!"

As Xia Duoduo rattled off on the phone, Ji Wei’s gradually-clearing mind suddenly jolted into alertness.

She quickly looked up at the clock beside her. The hands pointed to nine-fifteen.

Zhao Wanqing said the flight was at ten. If she didn’t leave now, she wouldn’t make it!

"Duoduo, I have something urgent to attend to. I’ll talk to you later." Hanging up the phone, Ji Wei scrambled out of bed, barefoot, racing straight to the bathroom.

Ji Wei only took a few minutes to get ready before heading downstairs.

Aunt Zhu was feeding An An his morning milk and asked, seeing her rush downstairs, "Madam, are you heading out?"

"Yeah, something urgent has come up." Ji Wei didn’t have time for breakfast and went straight to the entryway to change her shoes.

Upon hearing his mother’s voice, An An was overjoyed. His little mouth let out cheerful babbling, and his chubby little hands stretched out, asking to be picked up.

His adorable expression could melt anyone’s heart. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎

Ji Wei paused while putting on her shoes, her gaze on her son.

After hesitating for a few seconds, she suddenly scooped An An up from Aunt Zhu’s arms. "Aunt Zhu, I’ll take An An with me. Don’t worry, we’ll be back soon."

"Oh, alright then..." Aunt Zhu replied.

Seated in the car seat in the back, An An was thrilled to be going out. His black-grape-like eyes stared out the window with excitement, his little hands and feet in constant motion.

"An An, Mommy’s taking you to the airport to meet Daddy, okay?" Ji Wei kissed the back of her son’s chubby hand, speaking with tender warmth.
