Chapter 682: Chapter 682: Don’t Touch Randomly

Ji Wei laughed in anger, her eyes red as she stared at him, "Rest assured, I won’t die. I’ll live very well. Isn’t it just a man? Without you, the sky won’t fall, the earth will keep spinning. There are countless men in the world; I’m not foolish enough to hang myself on your one tree."

She spoke slowly and deliberately, pronouncing each word clearly.

But every word was like a sharp knife stabbing into Gu Moqian.

"Good, very good. I suppose I was overthinking," Gu Moqian’s lips curved into a faint, cold smile. He nodded lightly and released her shoulders.

He stepped back to lean against the farthest wall of the elevator, slipping his phone back into his pocket without turning it on.

After he moved away, Ji Wei felt as if all her strength had been drained in an instant, her hand tightly gripping the nearby railing to prevent herself from collapsing.

Gu Moqian stood there with his hands in his pockets, his straight legs firmly planted, his gaze fixed on the void in the darkness, like a flawless statue.

Ring ring ring...

The phone in Ji Wei’s bag started ringing.

Her bag and the items bought from the convenience store were scattered on the ground, right by Gu Moqian’s feet.

Ji Wei gritted her teeth, holding onto the railing and trying to inch forward.

The pain in her ankle made each step excruciating; a thin layer of sweat formed on her forehead. She didn’t make a sound, continuing to move forward bit by bit.

Just as she was about to reach the bag, the ringtone suddenly cut off.

Ji Wei froze for a moment. In the darkness, she couldn’t see anything, so she stretched her hand out to feel around.

Her fingers suddenly brushed against the man’s thigh.

Even through the fabric of his suit pants, she could feel the firmness of Gu Moqian’s long legs.

Ji Wei had seen Gu Moqian without pants before—his legs were straight and slender, fair as jade, with muscles perfectly defined, firm yet full of power.

So attractive they were almost irresistible.

Those very same legs had entwined with hers day after day, but now...

Ji Wei immediately shook her head, trying to dispel the inappropriate thoughts.

She needed to find her bag, that’s all she needed to do right now!

She recalled that her bag must have fallen near where Gu Moqian was standing, so she continued feeling around. Inevitably, her hand once again grazed the man’s trouser leg.

The soft touch of her hand was perceptible even through the suit pants, sending a strange tremor straight to the heart. Just one inadvertent brush from her hand, and his body reacted.

Gu Moqian’s gaze turned dark and unreadable. Suddenly, he extended his hand, accurately capturing the small hand fumbling around in the dark.

Her palm was slightly damp with sweat, warm and soft.

"What are you doing?" Ji Wei shuddered.

"Stop groping around."

His voice was cool and devoid of emotion. Then he effortlessly picked up the bag from the floor and shoved it into her hands.

Ji Wei froze for a few seconds, leaning back against the elevator wall, and retrieved her phone from the bag.

The screen lit up, showing Xia Duoduo’s missed call.

She called Duoduo back, explaining that something had delayed her and that she’d return as soon as possible.

Ending the call, the elevator plunged into silence again.

Not long after, voices and the sound of tools attempting to pry open the elevator door could be heard from outside.

The rescuers had arrived!

Ji Wei exhaled a breath of relief and used the phone’s built-in flashlight to shine towards the door.

A few minutes later, the rescue personnel successfully opened the elevator door, and the two of them were safely led out.

"The hotel is currently conducting a safety inspection of all elevators, so they’re temporarily out of service. If you want to go upstairs, you’ll have to take the stairs," the rescuers informed them.

The elevator had stopped on the 29th floor. Ordinarily, climbing a few floors wouldn’t be an issue for Ji Wei, but her injured ankle made it different.

Ji Wei thanked the rescuers and leaned against the wall, slowly making her way toward the stairwell.

When she saw the long flight of stairs before her, some hesitation crept in.

After a moment of silence, Ji Wei decided to grit her teeth and give it a try.

She had just reached for the stair railing when a pair of warm, dry hands suddenly wrapped around her slender waist, lifting her horizontally into his arms.
