Clinging to Devoted Fiancé, Heiress Slays the World!-Chapter 668: Your Wife Is Drunk, Please Come Pick Her Up
Xia Duoduo poured herself another glass, downing it in one go, slamming the glass onto the bar counter with a loud thud. She turned abruptly, grabbed Ji Wei’s hand, and, with quivering lips, started sobbing, "The Great Demon King is gone... he dumped me on another agent and ran away!"
"What’s that supposed to mean? I’m clearly his artist, yet he treats me like an object, tossing me around like this. It’s so irresponsible!"
By the end of her rant, Xia Duoduo was full of righteous indignation, clenching her fists as she shot up from her stool.
Ji Wei, worried she might fall, quickly stood up as well, steadying Xia Duoduo by the arm. "Mr. Ye left so suddenly? Where did he go?"
Xia Duoduo’s eyes were red and swollen as she shook her head. "I don’t know either."
She sniffled. "If I did know, I’d definitely chase after him! I think he’s doing it on purpose, trying to avoid me. Does he think I’m the most useless one among all his artists, and that’s why he doesn’t care anymore?"
"Mr. Ye wouldn’t think that way," Ji Wei consoled her. "But he’s Xingyao’s top agent. Can he just leave like that without approval from the higher-ups?"
"The folks in the company said the Great Demon King is on vacation, traveling abroad." Xia Duoduo raised her hand to wipe the tears off her face. "Hmph, they must be lying to me! The Great Demon King is a notorious workaholic—he’d work 48 hours a day if he could. Like he’d ever willingly go on vacation..."
Ji Wei didn’t know what to say to that.
There was a time she could’ve asked Gu Moqian what was going on, but now...
The memory of seeing Zhao Wanqing in the hotel room abruptly flashed through her mind. Ji Wei forced down the pang of pain in her chest.
"Of course he’s the Great Demon King, absolutely awful. I hate him! Hate him to death..." Xia Duoduo muttered, pounding her chest like a melodramatic heroine.
Noticing Ji Wei suddenly go silent, Xia Duoduo shoved a can of beer into her hand and, with a solemn tone, announced, "Little Wei, men are unreliable. Besties are the real deal. Tonight, we’re drinking till we drop!"
Ji Wei hadn’t planned to drink when she first came, but now, staring at the beer in her hand, she couldn’t help but entertain the idea of drowning her sorrows in alcohol.
After downing a few cans, Ji Wei’s thoughts started turning fuzzy. Leaning on Xia Duoduo’s shoulder, she chuckled foolishly. "Duoduo, you’re right. Men are nothing. Who needs them anyway..."
"Exactly! There are plenty of men in the world; it’s not like the Great Demon King is the only one."
"It’s not like Gu Moqian is the only one..."
"Haha! Here’s to the two of us finally seeing men for who they truly are!" Xia Duoduo raised her beer can in a toast.
"Cheers!"
Ji Wei joined right in.
The two women leaned against each other, slurring drunken nonsense, drinking can after can, until eventually, neither moved anymore.
The bartender came over and gave them both a little nudge. "Ladies, wake up."
Xia Duoduo groaned softly and swatted away his hand. "Don’t bother us. Little Wei, let’s keep drinking..." she said, trying to tip an empty beer can into her mouth.
Ji Wei didn’t respond.
"Your friend seems completely out of it. You’re not going to be able to get home like this. Should I call a relative or a friend to come pick you up?" the bartender offered.
Hearing that, Xia Duoduo hastily clutched her phone on the bar counter to her chest and shook her head in refusal. "No way! My family can’t know I’ve been drinking. They’ll definitely scold me for being such a failure and drag me back home to lock me up!"
The bartender was dumbfounded.
What kind of family is that scary...
"What about her? You could call her family, right?" The bartender gestured toward Ji Wei.
Xia Duoduo, barely able to roll her tongue properly, mumbled, "Sh-She has a husband!"
"Do you know her husband’s phone number?"
With flushed cheeks, Xia Duoduo froze for a moment, then looked down and started fumbling with her phone. "I’ll find the number for you..."
In the Presidential Suite.
Gu Moqian had a laptop balanced on his knees as he worked through company emails. Suddenly, his phone on the coffee table began to ring.
He picked it up to see an unknown number displayed.
After hesitating for a moment, he answered. His tone was icy. "Who’s this?"
"Hello, sir. Your wife has gotten drunk at a bar. Could you please come pick her up..."
